But it looks like their prediction has recently changed, based on this:
“Scout’s 2011 bowl prediction for the Illini has them heading out San Francisco to participate in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl. There, Scout predicts, the Illini would take on the UCLA Bruins, who would be 6-7 on the season and also likely minus its coach as well. Two teams with a combined record of 12-13 and without head coaches doesn’t exactly sound like the most appetizing match up, but such is one of the downsides of the current bowl system.”

(Haven’t seen Santana since that epic day a decade ago when he played the Bill Graham at the Windows 2000 launch after being introduced by Bill Gates and actor Patrick Stewart and/or I saw him in his BMW Z8 supercar up at Stintson…)

LOS ANGELES, July 12 — Musician and philanthropist Carlos Santana proposed toacclaimed drummer Cindy Blackmanonstage during his Friday, July 9 concert at the Midwest Bank Amphitheatre in Tinley Park, IL. Carlos popped the question four songs into the show–the Chicago area stop on Santana’s Universal Tone Tour 2010–following Cindy’s virtuoso drum solo on the Santana hit “Corazon Espinado.” After she accepted, the just-engaged couple kissed, and the audience broke out into cheers.
“Cindy and I are blessed to have found each other,” said Carlos Santana. “Being in love is a gift from the universe, and the spirit and vibrations that come with it are infinitely powerful. I look forward to expressing that incredible energy through my music, and in helping to tip the balance toward more love in the world with what Cindy and I share.”
Santana’s engagement to Blackman comes almost two months into the first leg of the Universal Tone Tour 2010, with North American dates featuring Steve Winwood as opener. Blackman is a jazz and rock drummer who has recorded and toured extensively with Lenny Kravitz, and played with a wide range of artists including Pharoah Sanders, Cassandra Wilson, and Bill Laswell.
The Universal Tone Tour’s second leg begins late September with a month-long European itinerary that follows a string of late August/early September performances of Supernatural Santana: A Trip Through The Hits at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas. The Joint is the only place west of the Mississippi where Santana will play live in the U.S. through 2010 (supernaturalsantana.com).
The Universal Tone Tour 2010 presents hits from Santana’s four-decades-long career, as well as songs from a forthcoming album. Set for release September 21 on Arista Records, Guitar Heaven: Santana Performs The Greatest Guitar Classics Of All Time is the first new studio album by the Santana Band since its trilogy of consecutive, award-winning blockbuster releases: Supernatural (1999), Shaman (2002), and All That I Am (2005). As with those earlier classic Arista titles, Guitar Heaven–featuring guest vocalists including Pat Monahan, Joe Cocker, Rob Thomas, and Gavin Rossdale–was co-produced by Carlos Santana and legendary music executive Clive Davis. Their partnership dates back to 1968, when Davis first signed Santana to Columbia Records–after seeing them at San Francisco’s Fillmore West, at Bill Graham’s request.

Our California Attorney General Jerry Brown can’t abide you smokers out there thinking “organic” cigarettes from American Spirit are better for you than other cigarettes. So he just cut a deal with the Santa Fe Natural Tobacco Company affacting how these ciggies will get marketed in California. Deets below.

Brown Secures Agreement with American Spirit Cigarettes Maker over Misleading Marketing of Organic Tobacco Products
Los Angeles-Attorney General Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced that his office has secured an agreement with Santa Fe Natural Tobacco Company, Inc., the manufacturer of American Spirit tobacco products, that requires the company to clearly disclose that its organic tobacco is “no safer or healthier” than other tobacco products.
Attorneys general from 32 other states and the District of Columbia signed onto today’s agreement.
“Stamping an organic label on tobacco products is ultimately a distinction without a difference-organic or not, cigarettes are bad for your health,” Brown said. “Today’s settlement with Santa Fe Natural Tobacco Company ensures that all future advertisements make it clear that organic tobacco is no safer or healthier.”

As promised, the free, “hella entertaining” Most Interesting Show in the World rocked San Francisco’s SoMA district last night at The Mezzanine. Dos Equis picked up the tab and brought a truckload of smooth, refreshing XX Ambar (Amber?) and XX Lager to hand out for free. Verily, it was “dope.” If this is how our corporate overlords want to spend their money during a recession, whom are we to argue?

The Mezz at Triple Four Jessie appears to be a well run nightclub, with an aware but mellow staff that enforces rules without any unneccesary vitriol. Hurray!
