“Top Five Food Trends Spotted at Winter Fancy Food Show

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 17, 2012 — The top five food trends for 2012 have been identified by a panel of trendspotters at the 37th Winter Fancy Food Show, which ends today in San Francisco.  It is the largest marketplace for specialty foods and beverages on the West Coast, with 80,000 products on display from 1,300 exhibitors from the U.S. and 35 countries.

The trends are:

Pickling 2.0

—  Boat Street Pickles: Pickled Golden Raisins
—  Sonoma Brinery: Raw Sauerkraut

Drinks Go Nuts (and Seeds and Grains)
—  Victoria’s Kitchen: Almond Water

—  Chill Drinks: C+Swiss Hemp Iced Tea

Gluten Free Grows Up
—  Cup4Cup: Gluten-free flour blend from Thomas Keller
—  Stonewall Kitchen: Gluten-free Herbed Pizza Crust
—  Love Grown Foods: Sweet Cranberry Pecan Granola

Coconut Cracks Open
—  Luna and Larry’s Coconut Bliss: Ginger Cookie Caramel Coconut Ice Cream

Let’s see here, the TasteTV Network is going to put on the TASTY Awards Show” at the Sundance Kabuki in Japantown on Thursday, January 14th, 2010. It will be:

“…the most exciting and prestigious event ever to celebrate food and fashion programs on television, in film, and online.”

O.K. then. But why food and fashion together?

“The viewer appetite and response to food and style programs has surged over recent years, making them some of the highest watched video content. The TASTY AWARDS spotlight the year’s best achievements in food and fashion programs on television, in film, and on the web.”

All right, now I’m on the trolley. But who’s going to be the draw? Well it’ll be hosted by Zane Lamprey, who will introduce to the crowd:

“SF Chefs Food Wine” Festival Coming to Union Square August 6-9, 2009

Step right up and get your tickets, cause the Golden Gate Restaurant Association will soon put on their big August festival.

San Francisco is abuzz. Check it:

SF Chefs. Food. Wine is a four day food and wine event celebrating the unique flavor, diversity and bounty of Northern California. The main tasting tent will be in Union Square, where chefs, wine makers and distillers will offer an exploration of taste featuring local products. Classes and seminars will offer interactive opportunities for the public to participate with local farmers, ranchers, chefs, winemakers, distillers, media, luminaries, authors, vintners, mixologists and culinary experts in an entertaining forum.

Event Dates: August 6-9, 2009
Location: Union Square and surrounding hotel and retail spaces as well as restaurants throughout the city.
Guests: 1500 attendees per day
Tickets: Go on sale Friday, May 22nd. Click on the ticket icon about for more information. Children free at Sunday family activities.

The Cause. The event supports four charities. San Francisco Food Bank (a member of Feeding America) provides food to over 133,000 people every year through more than 600 community programs. Meals on Wheels provides food and meal delivery especially to seniors and others with mobility issues. The Golden Gate Restaurant Association Scholarship Foundation provides funding for culinary and hospitality students based upon economic need. Project Open Hand provides Meals with Love to people living with HIV/Aids in San Francisco. All four charities will receive funding from the weekend’s activities.

And all your favorite  celebrities will be there, like Thomas Keller, Chris Cosentino,  Martin Yan, Hubert Keller, Cindy PawlcynMichael Chiarello, Joanne Weir and Top Chef-ers Jamie Lauren, Jennifer Biesty, Elizabeth Falkner and Ryan Scott.
