Well it’s the morning of the second Sunday of June, so that means it’s almost time for the Haight Ashbury Street Festival.
Lets take a look at some photos from recent years.

You know who loves the Haight Street Fair? Parole agents

A mass of humanity:

Hookahs! Get your hookahs! It’s Hookahs.com

A dancing baby grooving on Haight Street:

Can you see the superfluity of nuns in white approaching the Fair? Also note the F430 Ferrari supercar (sans license plates), one of many exoticars that made the journey to the Upper Haight today. Also note the sign: “No Open Containers of Alcohol.” Too bad.

Of course, all you need to get around the alcohol ban is a gallon jug of overproofed white rum and a giveaway “water” bottle. As seen on Ashbury.

Former District Five Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi on the scene

Poorbot looking for handouts:

“SHOW US YOUR BOOBS… please.” “FABULOUS PRIZES.” “DON’T WORRY (WE’RE GAY)” These inebriates residing above the Ben & Jerry’s at the corner of Ashbury were true to their word, tossing down trinkets to all flashers male and female.

You kmow why this San Francisco Native baby is better than you? Cause he had the foresight to be born in San Francisco, that’s why. He won the lottery/ when he was born.

Things really didn’t get hopping until the fog went away in the afternoon, but the 2011 Haight Ashbury Street Fair went off without a hitch, with nary a peep from the notorious NIMBYs of the Western Addition.
(And oh, honorable mention goes to photographers Bob Horowitz (nice) and Dropatan (also nice).)
Let your freak flag fly, baby. From the Eastern Stage:

Despite those hating Yelpers, today’s Haight Ashbury Street Fair was, once again, a huge success.
“The Haight-Ashbury Street Fair is held on the second Sunday of June each year, during which Haight Street is closed down between Stanyan and Masonic, with one sound stage at each end. This is a rather crowded event due to heavy tourism.”
Indeed:

Not sure what the Yelpers have a problem with, but the Haight Ashbury Street Fair went off today without a hitch, just like last year.
Look at the swirling mass of humanity on just one block of Haight Street:

Can you see the superfluity of nuns in white approaching the Fair? Also note the F430 Ferrari supercar (sans license plates), one of many exoticars that made the journey to the Upper Haight today. Also note the sign: “No Open Containers of Alcohol.” Too bad.

Of course, all you need to get around the alcohol ban is a gallon jug of overproofed white rum and a giveaway “water” bottle. As seen on Ashbury.

District Five Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi was on the scene, gathering names for his newsletter distribution list.

Poorbot was looking for handouts:

“SHOW US YOUR BOOBS… please.” “FABULOUS PRIZES.” “DON’T WORRY (WE’RE GAY)” These inebriates residing above the Ben & Jerry’s at the corner of Ashbury were true to their word, tossing down trinkets to all flashers male and female.

Mark your calendar and get your popcorn – soon you’ll be able while away those lazy afternoons at work glued to the images you’ll see from the “FIRST EVER WEBCAM TO STREAM LIVE FOOTAGE FROM THE FARALLON NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE.”
“Just in time for the first annual World Oceans Day, the first ever webcam on the Farallon National Wildlife Refuge will go live on June 8 at http://www.calacademy.org/webcams/farallones/ Powered by solar energy and perched on a windswept lighthouse on top of Southeast Farallon Island, the webcam will provide an unprecedented view of the seabirds, seals, and possibly even sharks that call these isolated islands home.
“The live webcam feed will be accompanied by animal identification guides, Farallones history, and research and conservation information. This exciting new initiative is made possible through a cooperative partnership between the California Academy of Sciences, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and PRBO Conservation Science.”
It’s going to be mega.
See all them sharks and boids? Well, maybe not, but this is a relatively fog-free day in the Sunset District. Until the new webcam came along, this was as close as you could could get to the Farallones.

Through the tinted glass of the ginourmous windows of Yelp-rated Sava Pool

From a higher perspective in the Twin Peaks area, on an exceptionally clear morning.

Can you see the lighthouse on the top of South East Farallon Island? That’s the site of the new webcam:

Noisy Canon 10D at 840mm, from Christmas Tree Point Road, a skosh more than 30 miles away
That will have to do you until Monday.
Remember their promise: “possibly even sharks.”

SAN FRANCISCO (May 27, 2009) – Just in time for the first annual World Oceans Day, the first ever webcam on the Farallon National Wildlife Refuge will go live on June 8 at www.calacademy.org/webcams/farallones. This exciting new initiative is made possible through a cooperative partnership between the California Academy of Sciences, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and PRBO Conservation Science.
Located 27 miles west of San Francisco, the Farallon National Wildlife Refuge is composed of three island groups that are home to the largest seabird colony in the continental United States. Approximately 250,000 seabirds representing 13 species and five species of seals and sea lions use the islands. Gray whales, blue whales, and humpback whales migrate past the islands every year. The area is also an important feeding ground for great white sharks. The refuge was established in 1909 by President Theodore Roosevelt as a preserve and breeding ground for native birds.

Yesterday’s Haight Ashbury Street Fair in San Francisco came with sunny skies and lots of attendees.
The alcohol ban of recent years has changed the character of this event somewhat. These days, the boozy Union Street Festival might have an edge in the number of inebriated. No matter, a good time was had by all in the Haight.
So, dig the colors of David Yu and look at a bunch of photos from SFWeekly.
A mass of humanity:

Could this man with marijuana garland be famous artist Harry Shearer trying out a new character?

Hookahs! Get your hookahs! Hookahs.com was in the house:

A dancing baby grooving on Haight Street:

Cindy Sheehan had more than a few acolytes gathering signatures for Cindy’s windmill-tilting House campaign against Nancy Pelosi:

See you next year!
