Pity poor Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger – tonight he crashed the annual San Francisco Democratic Party Fundraising Gala and Auction at the Fairmont Hotel atop Nob Hill and he was rewarded with a loud round of booing.
Poor guy. Did Assemblymember Tom Ammiano spontaneously yell, “You lie” at Arnold, ala Congressman Joe Wilson? Haha!

The evening captured via Francis Tsang’s BlackBerry
Per SF FYI Net:
When: October 7, 2009 – Wednesday
5:30 p.m. Cocktails and Auction
7:00 p.m. Dinner and Program
Where: The Fairmont Hotel, 950 Mason Street, San Francisco
What: San Francisco Democratic Party’s Annual Gala Fund Raiser. Many voices – one vision. Funds raised at the gala will directly support voter registration and get-out-the-vote activities to ensure that we elect a Democratic governor in 2010. $150.

Read this bit here over at BIKE NOPA to see that at least one SFPD lieutenant doesn’t consider the death of pedestrian Melissa Dennison to be a case of vehicular manslaughter. According to Lt. Ramlin of Park Station, at this point:
“There is no determination that it was manslaughter.”
The memorial at Fell and Broderick as it appeared a few days ago:

(Personally, I think when people use the term “speeding” in regards to traffic on Fell and Oak, they’re not saying what mean. Are they talking about cars literally going more than 30 mph? It’s not clear.)
The police report should be coming out soon…

The makeshift memorial for killed pedestrian Melissa Dennison at the intersection of Fell and Broderick is still drawing observers.
More flowers have come and someone put up a large photo. As it looked last night:

A memorial is planned for this Sunday in the Lake Tahoe area.
“Please join family and friends to celebrate the life of Melissa Hope Dennison. A memorial service will be held at West End Beach on Sunday, Sept. 20, beginning at 1 p.m. Bring food, drinks, and memories to share. All are welcome at the West End Beach Donner Lake in Truckee.”

It appears as if somebody threw away the flowers at Fell and Broderick yesterday morning - they were placed there as a memorial for fallen San Francisco pedestrian Melissa Dennison. But tons more were added throughout the day.
And this was the scene last night. The intersection smelled like a florist’s shop:

People were reading reports from the Examiner and KTVU-TV.
At this point it’s not really clear how this quote from the ‘Xam…
“State law dictates that an intersection doesn’t need to marked to be considered a crosswalk.”
…is useful since all the crosswalks in the area are marked.
We’ll have to wait to see if the office of Kamala Harris will charge the driver…

This was the scene last night at the intersection of Fell and Broderick in the NoPA North of Panhandle Area. It’s the start of a memorial for 24 year old pedestrian Melissa Dennison, who was struck by a car and killed yesterday morning.

“Melissa, you were loved and will be missed by many.”
They’re already calling for incarceration of the driver at StreetsBlog SF.
The commenters at SFist reveal that the pedestrian was herself cited twice last year for two different DUI car accidents at one location in Truckee, CA.
A sad story.

Senator Leland Yee has just proposed Senate Bill 782, which would prevent landlords from evicting domestic violence victims for causing a “nuisance.” Here’s what today’s press conference at City Hall looked like:
San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris, Senator Leland Yee, Emily Murase, Executive Director of the San Francisco Department on the Status of Women, San Francisco Supervisor Carmen Chu. Also on hand was Jessica Dayton of the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence:

Senator Yee’s bill is modeled after a new San Francisco ordinance promoted by Supervisor Chu and Kamala Harris last year and unanimously passed by the Board of Supervisors in February. The presence today of Kelenia Olsen from the office of Assemblymember Fiona Ma and Noriko Shinzato from the office of Assemblymember Tom Ammiano indicates this bill should get a lot of support from the bay area delegation in Sacramento.
But the question of the day is whether statewide homeowners groups will oppose this law due to what they might perceive as a diminuation of property rights.
We’ll see…
Senator Yee Introduces Bill to Prevent Unfair Evictions of Domestic Violence Victims. San Francisco Ordinance Spurs Statewide Legislation to Protect Victims
Senator Leland Yee (D-San Francisco/San Mateo) today announced legislation to prevent landlords from unfairly evicting domestic violence victims. Senate Bill 782 is modeled after a San Francisco ordinance authored by Supervisor Carmen Chu and sponsored by District Attorney Kamala Harris, which passed in February.
“It is unconscionable to force a domestic violence victim from their home,” said Yee. “Evicting a survivor of domestic violence not only results in being re-victimized, but unfairly strains a family attempting to recover. The possibility of eviction discourages women from coming forward to report incidents of domestic violence. If a victim wants to stay in his or her home, they should be allowed that opportunity and should not face added pressures of moving or possible homelessness.”
More deets after the jump.

Things are speeding up at Slow Food Nation ‘08 in San Francisco. After fighting the worm wars, it’s nice to sit back and spend $500 to eat some celebrity chef food under the rotunda of City Hall. It’s the Victory Garden Celebration Dinner on August 24:
District Attorney Kamala Harris, Peter Coyote, Thomas Keller and Alice Waters invite you to celebrate the Victory Garden on Civic Center Plaza. We’ll gather in the garden, share a meal prepared by Chez Panisse, and plant the seeds of victory at San Francisco City Hall.
Or just get a table for $10k and invite a few friends to have some paella, your choice.
Blue corn as high as a elephant’s eye, and it looks like it’s climbing clear up to the sky:

See you there!
“The Slow Food Nation Victory Garden, planted by a coalition of volunteers including Mayor Gavin Newsom and Alice Waters, is an edible garden on the Civic Center Plaza. Planted on the same site as the post World War II Victory Gardens 60 years ago, the Victory Garden represents the values of sustainability, community and stewardship of the land, while producing high quality food for people in need.”
