Famous San Francisco street photographer Justin Beck has bounced back from losing his camera on the mean Streets of San Francisco, looks like. He’s got another Nikon to work with so that’s nice.
Check it, a canary yellow streetcar.
Is this an album cover?

So why did we give land to the Feds for them to take care of if we don’t want them to take care of it?
What makes us special that we need an exemption from federal rules, an exemption that nobody in America outside of the bay area expects?
That’s the Question of the Day.
A snowy plover on Ocean Beach _not_ being harassed by a dog:

Now, Ocean Beach Dog, ooh, somebody over there got an off-leash ticket from the Feds a looooong time ago. (Can you guess what year by looking at the website design? Sure you can.) Oh well. Well, the Feds don’t like Ocean Beach Dog and people what behave like Ocean Beach Dog. The Feds consider us Whacko City, USA because of outfits like OBD, oh well.
Most dogs don’t bother the boids, of course. Can you see the snowy plover?

But some dogs do harass the birds. (These aren’t actually snowy plovers near Lawton and the Great Highway but the dogs don’t know or care about that.)

(Get those Ocean Beach birds, good boy!)
And here’s the sitch up in Crissy Field:

See the birds, see the unleashed dog?

Is is surprising to you that an unleashed dog could find and chase these plovers?

Oh well.

On It Goes

Kamala Kelkar has the deets of this expected gambit from The Feds:
“The public comment period for a contentious proposal to force dogs onto leashes in several popular dog-walking spots such as Fort Funston was extended until May 29.”
All the deets, and news of today’s premature protest, below.

Actually, I think that’s the problem, outfits like SFDog are worried that people will start to get (more) tickets for walking doggies off-leash on federal land.

All you need to know about the Yelp-rated lighthouse at Point Bonita is right here.
Did the lighthouse keeper’s wife really tie up the kids on a leash when they played outside to keep them from falling into the ocean? That’s the story, anyway.

Looks like that house might get sprayed with salt water sometimes.
See you there!

It’s the Law.
Duboce Park is where the dogs can run free (in the Multi-Use area) and the children get fenced in – it all works out.
But your pup is going to need a leash to get to the leash-free area, as this sidewalk graphic tries to communicate:

See you there!
(And “please please pick up after your dogs“, they are begging over on the Yelp. Oh well)

San Francisco has had its share of battles about beaches, dogs and Western Snowy Plover birds so it’s only logical that nearby Pacifica, CA gets into the act as well. Some dog owners down there are hopping mad, as you might expect in light of San Francisco’s recent experience.
But, as you can see from this shot from Ingrid Taylar‘s About.com San Francisco, these little dickens have cuteness on their side. And that always helps.
Stay smooth, Pacifica.
Brace yourself, this photo of an adult plover on Ocean Beach gets extra big when you click on it:

Of course San Francisco is for Plovers, as the T-shirt says:

More deets after the jump.
Godspeed, little plovers!

This here monkey thing looks like a stuffed animal or a backpack, but basically it’s a disguised harness avec leash.
The youngest blogger in the world seems to like his. He doesn’t feel he’s lost his “dignity” or is being “treated like a dog”
You see, somebody who cares about you wants you to get out of the house, but doesn’t want you straying too far.

Just so you know….
