What You Shouldn’t Do When Visiting San Francisco

Saturday, November 15th, 2008

When you’re visiting San Francisco, you should always remember that you shouldn’t commit assault and/or battery on a woman in broad daylight near a busy intersection such as Van Ness and McAllister. Now, maybe you didn’t hit her but you touched her and chased her and she yelled out, so that’s going to start a chain of events that inevitably winds up with you being in the hands of the SFPD in about three minutes.

Passersby don’t really care if you have a domestic dispute, a business dispute, or any other kind of dispute with the woman wearing boots and a sundress. They’re all going to call 911 ASAP. What are you thinking, dude?

The detention and makeshift interrogation begins. “Are you high?” Click to expand:

WHO: You, the dude in the suit.

WHAT: Attempting to detain somebody against her will on the sidewalk.

WHY: Doesn’t matter.

WHERE: Across the street from San Francisco City Hall.

WHEN: The morning of a huge Anti-Prop 8 protest at City Hall.

That’s your lesson for the day.

Google Goes Gay for a Day at San Francisco Pride

Monday, June 30th, 2008

There seemed to be quite a few Gayglers (gay Googlers) in the crowd during Pride 2008 last weekend. They weren’t too hard to spot, what with their official T-shirts, as in years past

What will be the next “-oogler” coinage to take off?  Noogler, Loogler, or Xoogler?

Online, you might notice a similar rainbow theme, depending on what you search for.

Marriage Freedom the Theme of the San Francisco Gay Pride Celebration 2008

Monday, June 30th, 2008

The streets of San Francisco were hopping yesterday what with the final day of Pride 2008.

See a slideshow of photos here and read all about it here.

This fellow hung out at an intersection with his home-made bloodied crucifix for a good long while:

Perhaps he wouldn’t be too receptive to this mathematical identity: “Christian + Gay = O.K.”

And just when you think the whole world has gone gay, along comes a person who displayed heterosexual pride. His simple message: “I Love My Girlfriend.”

How sweet. See you next year.

San Francisco Dyke March 2008 a Huge Success

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

The San Francisco Dyke March had a huge turnout yesterday, as per usual. This was the scene as the crowd headed to Dolores Park in the Mission district, where every girl cried for one reason or another, per TonyClick to enlarge:

Reserve Your San Francisco City Hall Wedding Ceremony Soon!

Friday, June 6th, 2008

Here’s the deal, all those same sex marriages at San Francisco’s City Hall are scheduled to get started on a Monday evening ten days from now - June 16th. Normally, the largest old-school dome in the Western Hemisphere wouldn’t be open that late, but these are extraordinary times.

So, opposite sex couples have only a limited window of opportunity to get a license and get married at City Hall before June 16. Before, couples were avoiding ceremonies on June 13th (as it’s on a Friday), but no longer. Everybody will be accomodated eventually, of course, but you need to plan ahead for best results. Things will get a little hectic starting June 16, 2008.

First, go here to get a reservation to get a wedding license. Then go here to check out what times for ceremonies they have for you. Keep checking as cancellations come up. Things are in flux, so stay informed.

When things get back to normal after the big summer rush, you’ll be offered a space for your ceremony in the small chapel downstairs or up here, at the top of the steps under the rotunda. But expect to see ceremonies all over the building very soon.

Congratulations!

San Franciscans Will be Wearing Pink During Tomorrow’s National Day of Silence

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

The National Day of Silence brings attention to anti-LGBT name-calling, bullying and harassment in schools. Hundreds of thousands of students will come together to encourage schools and classmates to address the problem of anti-LGBT behavior.

San Francisco high school counselor Ian Enriquez notes that the Day of Silence isn’t exactly a visual event so he wants people to dress up in pink tomorrow. It seems lots of people are getting on board, like Senator Carole Migden for one:

“I’m tickled pink that colors like lavender and pink are so widely used to promote awareness about our movement, and for issues like breast cancer and domestic violence. I will proudly wear my pink on Friday and hope that San Francisco is awash in pink in honor of Lawrence King and the countless other young people who are bullied and threatened in our schools.”

Senator Migden shows how it’s done:

But how about the Mayor of San Francisco?

Alex Randolph, [Mayor Gavin] Newsom’s liaison to the LGBT community and District 8, said he’ll wear pink Friday and is encouraging others at City Hall to join him. He said Newsom supports the idea behind Enriquez’s efforts, but he isn’t sure if the mayor will be wearing pink.

Let’s count him in as a “maybe.”

It’s not necessary to for parents to keep their kids home from school or for school administrators to send students home from school, we all should just get on out there and think pink tomorrow. Why not?
