“IF YOU”RE NOT THE MODEL, BE THE PHOTOGRAPHER” IRL – From The Tens – “Shots from the 47″

Monday, April 22nd, 2013

My most incoherent headline yet.

This was the question back in 2011.

And this was the answer.

Comes now The Tens with his take on photographer-model duality:

“D-Day” Brand California Oranges: Nothing Sells Citrus Like WWII-Era Medium Battle Tanks

Friday, August 31st, 2012

What goes together better than oranges and medium battle tanks? Nothing, that’s what.

Not exactly sure that the Shermam Firefly tank displayed below saw any action on D-Day (and, anyway, lots of these D-Day tanks ended up at the bottom of the Bay of the Seine), but it’s fun to pretend:

“IF YOU”RE NOT THE MODEL, BE THE PHOTOGRAPHER” – A Mystery Solved – Photographer in Ad Actually a Model

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011

O.K., so skip down below to see the ad from Target / Converse Shoes that caused a stir a while back. You know, over the whole “IF YOU”RE NOT THE MODEL, BE THE PHOTOGRAPHER” thing.

So I was thinking the photographer gal shown might actually have been a photographer who became a model for the first time because somebody took a photo of her OTJ photographing models.

And then I just saw this link here from Erin Williams talking about “the ad that I shot for Converse,” so I thought, yeah, she is a photographer IRL:

“My mom told me about this blog post that someone saw online in regards to the ad that I shot for Converse for Target. The tagline in the ad is “If you can’t be the model, be the photographer”.  I guess not everyone liked the line…  What do you think?”

But then one more click to one of the galleries on her website reveals she’s a model model:

(Because, of course, “the ad that I shot for Converse” can mean different things depending on whether you’re a model or a photographer.)

So, as stated, mystery solved.

Hurray!

Keep up the good work, Erin Williams.

Ah, memories:

“Maybe you can look at this new ad from Target and just lol.

But not Steve Meyer Photography, oh no:

“i just saw this ad on the back of a magazine. i feel so offended i need to take another deep breath before i start ranting. the tag line is “If you’re not the model, be the photographer.”

And Tzulin is not impressed, not at all:

I’m a girl and I was like…what! Converse, my favorite brand, is saying … If you can’t be a model…then be the photographer, those who can’t do..teach:) so offended !

But You Make The Call.*

*Uh yes, she’s particularly not ugly, she’s a cutie. And yes, IRL, she’s a model, if she wasn’t before she certainly is now. Isn’t it ironic, don’tcha think?

The Curious Architecture of Our Cabrillo Street Safeway – Entryway Looks Like an Air Traffic Control Tower, Non?

Friday, October 15th, 2010

This is the scene at the Safeway on 7th and Cabrillo. Doesn’t the entrance look like an air traffic control tower?

(Appears as if the windows are cinder blocks, else the place could make a nice in-law apartment, right? A set of stairs or an elevator and you’d be all set.)

I don’t know, maybe the NIMBYs of the Inner Richmond demanded the funky design, or maybe Safeway did it that way thinking it was doing us a favor.

No matter, the NIMBY’s of the East Bay (they’re called Stakeholders* over there, for some reason) seem to consider our Cabrillo Safeway something of a paragon, what with its “state-of-the-art Lifestyle Interior” ‘n stuff.

Now, for some reason, the longest waiting time I’ve ever experienced at a Costco seems to be about the average waiting time at this particular store, don’t know why.

But don’t leave us, Safeway #2646 (the way that Albertsons done.) We still love you no matter how goofy those meddlesome homeowners associations made you look.

If Safeway works on these unannounced inspection violations, it’ll be fine:

019 (CFR) Inadequate/Inaccessible handwashing facilities & supplies
020 (CFR) Improper hot/cold holding temperatures
033 (CFR) Foods not separated or protected
041 (CFR) Foods improperly labeled or misrepresented
042 (CFR) Non Food Contact Surface Unclean
054 (CFR) Floors, Walls, Ceilings Improperly constructed, in disrepair, not clean
056 (CFR) Permit/Inspection Not Posted
062 (CFR) Other – (Specify in report)

That was from a year ago, tho. I’m sure they’ve righted the ship by now.

We Can Only Hope…

*A taste of what Safeway Inc. has to deal with in the 510, after the jump.
