Frisco’s Victorian Era Lighting Scheme: No LED’s Here – None Desired

I don’t mind LED lights myself, but others view them as modern hocus pocus

But who knows, maybe this house will get LED’s (or better) one of these days…

President Barack Obama Replaced by Elderly White Man on Rec and Park’s Official Holiday Train

Friday, December 12th, 2014

When President Barack Obama was a more popular,* he made the grade in Golden Gate Park:

It was a thing.

But now, he’s been replaced. As seen in December 2014:

Oh well.

Actually, I was surprised to see both Obama and Father Christmas on official gov’mint display in Golden Gate Park.

Who will be honored next year…?

*I remember this at Civic Center. The “Hillary People” had some unkind things to say, but it was a real big deal, a memorable event

OMG, It’s “War Horse” at Our Curran Theatre – A Spectacle – Positive to Enthusiastic Reviews – Ends Sept. 9th

Wednesday, August 8th, 2012

I don’t know what you’re looking for in a play, but how’s this?

2011 Tony Awards:
  • Best Play
  • Best Direction (Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris)
  • Best Scenic Design (Rae Smith, winner)
  • Best Lighting Design (Paule Constable, winner)
  • Best Sound Design (Christopher Shutt, winner)

In addition, Adrian Kohler and Basil Jones of Handspring Puppet Company won the Special Tony Award for War Horse.

So yeah, War Horse at our SHN Curran Theatre is a puppet show based on a children’s book, but it looks amazing.

Speaking of which, here’s SFPD horse “Hammer” meeting SHN horse puppet “Joey” the other day in Golden Gate Park – check the video:

Click to expand – more deets on this equine experiment from Kavin Fagan here

And, the reviews:

Miracles abound in the electrifying “War Horse per Robert Hurwitt of the San Francisco Chronicle

A theatrical coup” per long-time San Francisco critic Janos Gereben

It’s “spellbinding” per Karen D’Souza of the San Jose Mercury News

War Horse earns its stripesper Ken Marks of KQED

War Horse is the one touring show that shouldn’t be missed” per Cy Ashley Webb of the Stark Insider

Four stars out of five per Albert Goodwyn, SF Performing Arts Examiner

It’s a great show. You (and your kin aged 12 and up) ought to go see it.

And oh, BTW, if you don’t already have tickets for The Book of Mormon, you know, the Best Musical of the Century (already!) per the New York Times, well, it’s time to start freaking out. You can’t buy tickets now because the only way to do that is to get a subscription for the 2012-2013 season (you know, Lion King, Wicked, etc.) but here’s the catch: SOLD OUT, baby! Already. So you’re going to need to move move move when individual tickets go on sale, whenever that will be. BoM, which is, fundamentally, a “love letter to religion written by an atheist,” however foul-mouthed it may be, will only be here for five short weeks. Every last show will sell out, just saying.

Supervisor Scott Wiener to Address San Francisco’s Streetlight Issue Today at 10 AM in City Hall

Monday, June 4th, 2012

Per Supervisor Scott Wiener:

On Monday, 10 AM, I’ll be holding a hearing in City Hall to discuss our streetlights and the need to improve them & make them more reliable.”

I suppose he’s talking about stuff like this and this, but I wonder why Market Street looks like this at night lately, with all the street lights off from the Financh to troubled Mid-Market to the Twitterloin and beyond:

(Hey, remember when our former man-child of a Mayor, that former scion, remember when he turned on a streetlight in the Twitterloin using his iPhone? Now, looking back, did that help at all? No it didn’t. Obviously not. But it made his day and he wanted to share. That’s what he thought was Governance. Oh well.)

Anyway, please, City Hall, turn off the dark.

There’s Way More Poo in Justin Herman Plaza Now Than During the Height of OccupySF – Why Is That?

Wednesday, December 28th, 2011

Horses, that’s why. Police horses, that is.

JHP poo, tourists, the Embarcadero, and Ferry Building. Welcome to San Francisco!

Perhaps the super-whiny whiners in the the area, such as Boston Properties* and whoever, will start writing sneaky letters to SFGov about how they’re going to sue, sue, sue over horse poo now?

Perhaps.

So, now that OccupySF is over, area property owners are happy? Really? Mmmm.

And who was it, was it Hawaiian Airlines or Disney what was demanding the end of OccupySF? Maybe I’ll look into that and see how they feel about Occupy. [Cough, boycott, cough.]

On It Goes…

*Owner of Embarcadero Center or someplace. (Now isn’t that a great name for a San Francisco company?)
