Fool’s Day: Area Socialite Elisabeth Thieriot Loses It: Calls Self Erin Brockovich, Indiana Jones

Monday, April 1st, 2013

Oh Lord:

“Thieriot, a little Indiana Jones, a little Erin Brockovich, leads the audience through an adventure to the…”

You know, I think the time to release a Mayan Calendar film was back in 2012.

You know, maybe having too much money means you can engage in pursuits what enable you to lose perspective.

Oh well.

Cat Burglar and Cat Woman Steal a Bubenreuth Cello from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music? Photos

Tuesday, September 18th, 2012

The Reddit Community is going crazy over this one.

Is this what it would look like if Anne Hathaway / Parker Posey (on the left) and Bobby Flay (on the right) conspired to steal a little violone from San Francisco’s world-famous Conservatory of Music in Civic Center / Hayes Valley?

From yesterday:

“Hey Reddit, my son’s very expensive cello was stolen from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music yesterday. Here are the surveillance pics from security that show a young couple making-off with my son’s primary instrument. FWIW, this instrument is one of the most expensive things I have ever owned. It was stolen around 4:05 PM on Sunday, September 16th, 2012. These people are nonchalantly making-off with a full-size cello that was purchased when my son graduated from a smaller cello when he was 12. We’ve owned it for 11 years. He’s in the collegiate division at the San Francisco Conservatory and it is not only the vehicle for his ability to obtain a classical music degree, but is also his sole source of income, as he uses it in performances and recordings. We’ll be doing a media blitz tomorrow with local stations and the SFPD, but I’m hoping the community can help. Any leads are incredibly appreciated.”

All the photos.

Do you have enough Clues? Who will solve this mystery?

(Is it Mrs. Peacock in the Conservatory with a Revolver?)

Masonic Update: A Modern-Day Warrior – Mean, Mean Stride – Today’s Tom Sawyer – Mean, Mean Pride

Monday, November 7th, 2011

Though his mind is not for rent
Don’t put him down as arrogant
His reserve, a quiet defense
Riding out the day’s events
The river

No, his mind is not for rent
To any god or government.
Always hopeful, yet discontent,
He knows changes aren’t permanent,
But change is.

The world is, the world is
Love and life are deep
Maybe as his eyes are wide

Exit the warrior
Today’s Tom Sawyer
He gets high on you
And the energy you trade
He gets right on to the friction of the day

And they all look just the same

A Little Shaking in San Francisco – Didn’t Feel Like a Scary Earthquake Here

Monday, June 28th, 2010

7:47 AM, June 28th – The bay area just got a few little rolls from an “adorable” quake that had an epicenter just three miles to the west of the San Francisco Zoo, under the Pacific on the San Andreas Fault.

The animals at the zoo are unnerved:

“I can hear the Peacocks at the @sfzoo flipping out over the little earthquake.”

Oh well. Here it is, from the USGS:

Saint Francis of Assisi was all, “Is that what Thouest calls an Earth-Tembler Temblor, Master Andreas? Really, t’was merely a trifling. Next time, Thouest should Bring It On.”

The Golden State’s Silvery Street – Where Cable Cars Go Halfway to the Stars

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

Here’s California Street looking west from the Financial District / Chinatown area. When the light’s just right, the cable car rails shimmer all silv’ry in the relative darkness created by high-rise buildings.

Thusly:

Did you know that Paris is gay? That’s what Tony Bennett (and Frank Sinatra) said:

The loveliness of Paris seems somehow sadly gay,
The glory that was Rome is just another day,
I’ve been terribly alone and forgotten in Manhattan,
I’m going home to my city by the bay.

I left my heart in San Francisco, high on a hill it calls to me
To be where little cable cars climb halfway to the stars.
The morning fog may chill the air, I don’t care.
My love waits there in San Francisco, above the blue and windy sea,
When I come home to you, San Francisco, your golden sun will shine for me.

San Francisco’s St. Patrick’s Day 2009 (aka “Shamrock Day”) a Sedate Affair

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

Now back in the day, a place like the Little Shamrock on Lincoln in the Inner Sunset would be hopping on Saint Patrick’s Day, but tonight didn’t seem all that bustling at all. Mind you, the place was full, but it didn’t seem as busy as in years past.

Click to expand. Back in the day, pre-recession, you’d have a crowd of a hundred or so on the sidewalk in front of LS waiting to get in on “Shamrock Night.”

The same could be said for the Irish-type bars in the Inner Richmond District as well. The Plough and Stars, Abbey Taven, the Bitter End and the like on Clement and Geary just didn’t seem to be all that busy.

Oh well.

Now about that “Shamrock Day” – it’s the politically correct term, apparently, so the wee ones won’t go Catholic on you, or something. (Yish.)

See you next year.

The Republican Party of San Francisco Recruiting in Cow Hollow

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

Everybody was all smiles at Union Street Festival‘s Republican Party ironing-board recruiting station the other day, believe it or not. (Some people call this area The Marina. Same deal.)
