Welcome to the 415, Iqbal Theba!
SAN FRANCISCO, May 18, 2011 — On nearly the final day of the school year, America’s favorite principal – Iqbal Theba who plays “Principal Figgins” on the hit TV show, Glee – will join students and educational leaders in San Jose & San Francisco as he launches new technology to provide affordable college and career planning and a national challenge to help students reach their dreams.
“Kids at Glee’s McKinley High have dreams, but I want to help all teens across America, in the real-world,” said Theba, who also serves as Honorary Principal of SuperFutures.com.
The jobless rate among youth stands at over 20% and the average student is now taking about 6 years to complete college due to poor planning (CollegeBoard). Some 70% of parents say their #1 concern is their child’s successful transition to the ‘real world’ (SuperFutures).
Theba will join nationally known financial education expert/innovator Jennifer Openshaw (Oprah, author, Women’s Financial Network founder); Dan Rosensweig, CEO of Chegg.com, the #1 online textbook rental company; and school officials in unveiling the nation’s first online guidance counseling community designed with Harvard experts to help young people build skills to succeed at a fraction of the cost of independent college advisors.
Theba, who thought, “Oh, no, I’m stuck with construction,” will also share his own struggle of finding his passion and launch a new national challenge encouraging real teens to begin to create their dreams over the summer break by leveraging their creative talents.
