Goofy Mervyn’s Heights Location Claims Another: RIP Geary and Masonic (Sort Of) Panera Bread Chain Store – 2015 to 2018

Monday, March 19th, 2018

I just noticed that this place shut down.

I thought it was a bakery at first.

IDK anybody who actually ate something from here.

If you plopped me down at the Lucky Penny (also RIP) parking lot that’s actually at Geary and Masonic and gave me two minutes to run across traffic and around Target and through a loooooong tunnel to get to the door of E106, well I think I could make it.

Anyway, RIP Panera.

So, some of her opponents can be bought – is that the implication?

IDK.*

Doesn’t seem the right slogan for her…

*Oh, it just occurred to me that she might be talking about her personal wealth and how it might keep her from being influenced too much by Area Billionaires or Entrenched Labor Union Interests, or things like that. You know, like Trump used to say / imply. But it seems he’s awfully influenced anyway as things turn out. No, I think there’s a better way to get this message across than the above from Angela.

“BURRITOFICATION IN PROGRESS” – Chipotle Chain Store Comes to Mervyn’s Heights, 94118 – NOW HIRING at Geary and Masonic

Monday, April 6th, 2015

After a giant Fail Whale landed upon the efforts to bring a Chipotle Mexican Grill to the masses at Church and Market a few years back, the purveyors of America’s Favorite Mission-style Burrito set about making things work up at 2675 Geary.

And lo, here it is:

Regular San Franciscans Just LOVE Chain Stores, Chapter #1801: Panera Bread, OPENING SOON in the Western Addition

Monday, December 1st, 2014

Well, here it is, “OPENING SOON!” as promised:

So this chain already has 1800 or so outlets, so let’s call this place at Geary and Masonic Store #1801.

The thing is, regular San Franciscans, not the electeds, you know, just regular people, love chain stores and here’s the test: OPEN ONE UP AND SEE IF PEOPLE SHOP THERE. You dig? That’s why chain stores are banned or are effectively banned in certain areas under certain conditions.

If San Franciscan didn’t like chain stores, then chain stores wouldn’t open up here in the first place, or, if they did, then nobody would shop there and then the chain stores would close up and leave.

Now this particular chain store is hidden away, like a porno shop, and that helped it get approved. you see, we like chain stores but we don’t want to see them all over the place.

On It Goes…

Sunset Over the Sunset – Cotton Candy December Skies – As Seen From Mervyn’s Heights, Target Tor – Behind the Music Scholarship

Friday, December 20th, 2013

Lone Mountain campus, where Suzanne Somers lost her music scholarship and got kicked out of school, you know, for getting preggers, a half century ago.

Yowzer:

“She was accepted at San Francisco College for Women (commonly referred to as “Lone Mountain College“), a now-defunct single sex school which became a campus of the Jesuit University of San Francisco. She won a music scholarship, but became pregnant after six months. She married the baby’s father, “Bruce Somers”, and her only child, Bruce Somers, was born in November 1965. She was unhappy in her marriage and began an affair with her former drama teacher. Her husband found out about it and the marriage ended after just two years, in 1967. A single mom, she turned to modeling in San Francisco to support herself and her son. She also distanced herself from her family because her older brother and sister by then were also alcoholics. In 1968, she won a job as a prize model on a game show hosted by her future husband, Alan Hamel, who was married at the time. The two began dating, and she became pregnant while Hamel was still married. They came to the conclusion that Suzanne should have an abortion, from which she suffered severe bleeding for several days. In 1970, she auditioned for Playboy’s Playmate of the Month and got as far as a test series of photos taken in the Mexican jungle. She was fully nude except for a gold chain around her waist. Playboy decided not to use her shots at the time, but paid her $3,000 for the test. After she became a star on Three’s Company (1976), Playboy published the entire series of photos and the handwritten Data Sheet that each potential Playmate fills out (in which she gives the year of her birth as 1947). At the time of its publication, she was a popular (and for her, lucrative) spokeswoman in a series of TV commercials for Ace Hardware. Following the publication of the pictures, Ace abruptly fired her, citing the contract’s morals clause. In 1971, her son Bruce was severely injured when he was hit by a car, and the therapist counseling him only charged the struggling Suzanne $1 per week. Suzanne herself also underwent therapy to overcome the problems of her dysfunctional childhood…”

“City Target” Store Opening October 13th at “City Center 3.0” – Geary & Masonic – Mervyn’s Heights is Now Target Tor

Brand-new giant signs like this one never lie:

I’ll tell you, area NIMBYs got steamrolled on this one. It’s not that certain millionaire, property-owning ladies residing west of the Western Addition and south of North of NoPA are happy about this situation, but they didn’t get any traction due to massive community support, particularly from younger, non-millionaire mom-types, right?

And, I mean if you purchase your Great Estate next to a shuttered Mervyns with hundreds and hundreds of empty parking spaces, well, you gotta figure something’s going to replace it sooner or later.

So that’s it – Mervyn’s Heights is now Target Tor.

And NoPA (which actually isn’t north of the Golden Gate Park Panhandle, take a look at a map sometime) should now be called SoTA, South of Target.

All hail the second coming of City Target to the 415.
