The Goldest Lamborghini in Town – Bienvenidos a Miami! – Let’s Talk License Plate Violations

Tuesday, August 5th, 2014

Florida plates, BTW.

Or should I say, Florida plate, as this gold exoticar doesn’t have a front license plate, which is a no-no in The Golden State.

And of course, you’ve got less than three weeks after moving to California to deal with the California DMV, but I’ll tell you, most Lambos you see in SF aren’t properly registered with CA DMV.

Anyway, this car reminded of Dennis Rodman’s old ride, one that’s being used as a daily driver by a CCSF student.

Stay gold, Lambo owner. Bienvenidos a 415 / 628 / 650!

The San Francisco Bath Salts Company Tells Us That That Zombie Attacker in Miami Was NOT High on “Bath Salts”

Monday, July 2nd, 2012

You know, that whole Miami face-eater incident has put our San Francisco Bath Salts Company (“THE AUTHORITY ON BATH SALTS”) on edge these days. So much so that its president just issued a press release to tell us all not to fear.

Deets below.

Fret not, it’s just salt, pretty much, so go ahead and take a bath:

“Zombie Attacker Not High on ‘Bath Salts’ – San Francisco Bath Salt Company Reacts

SAN FRANCISCO, July 2, 2012 — Following weeks of assumption that the street drug “bath salts” was to blame for Miami’s flesh-eating attack, local and national media outlets are reporting that medical examiners determined that Rudy Eugene did not have any “bath salts” in his system at the time of the attack. San Francisco Bath Salt Company (SFBSC), a manufacturer of legitimate bath salts, is pleased to learn that the sensationalized controversy over bath salts and whether they will turn you into a crazed zombie has finally been debunked.

“It was clear from the beginning that real bath salts were not the cause of this attack,” SFBSC president Lee Williamson said. “However, it is reassuring to finally put the speculation surrounding this particular issue to rest.”

Though most commonly known as “bath salts,” the street drug is also sold under other innocent names such as “plant food” and “glass cleaner.” “The mass media really overused the term ‘bath salts’ with this case. They were able to take something so seemingly innocuous as ‘bath salts’ and elevate the story to national prominence with shock value,” adds Williamson.

“Any extra exposure that our industry can get is generally a good thing. But I never would have imagined that a street drug commonly known as ‘bath salts’ would become a national crisis, resulting in a media frenzy,” Williamson admits.

The bath salts manufactured and sold by SFBSC contain only natural sea salt enhanced with other quality ingredients such as essential oils and natural fragrances. Their products are manufactured to offer therapeutic solutions for sore muscles and dry skin, among other benefits.

Visit the new SFBSC website for more details on the vast array of bath salts available at http://www.sfbsc.com.

About San Francisco Salt Company

The San Francisco Salt Company designs, develops, and sells an extensive line of bath and shower salts to soothe, cure, and promote relaxation, as well as a line of gourmet chef salts to guarantee just the right flavors for your dishes.

Their mission is to raise your awareness of the amazing benefits of natural sea salts – to harness the power of the ocean to enhance your well-being, from the inside out.”

“NBC Bay Area” Expands Investigative Reporting Capabilities – Tony Kovaleski and Jenna Susko Join KNTV – Hurray!

Friday, November 11th, 2011

Well this is different. Legacy bay area media institution KNTV is is actually adding investigative reporters to the payroll.

Get all the deets below.

I’ll tell you, I’m getting a Dan Noyes, quasi-in-yo-face vibe from both these newcomers.

Here’s Tony Kovaleski, on the left, going after a purported “Guido” executive at Pebble Beach:

And here’s lovely Jenna Susko – oh man, she’s not afraid to ask questions as this highlight reel amply demonstrates:

“NBC Bay Area Expands Investigative Reporting Capabilities - Award-Winning Investigative Reporter Tony Kovaleski To Lead New Investigative Team - Jenna Susko Joins Station As Investigative Reporter

SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 11, 2011 — NBC Bay Area today announced that it has added two investigative reporters to the station’s news staff, significantly increasing the station’s investigative reporting capabilities in advance of launching a new unit early next year.

Bay Area native Tony Kovaleski joins NBC Bay Area to lead the station’s investigative team after working at television stations in Phoenix, Houston and Denver.  While in Denver, Kovaleski exposed problems with emergency services at Denver’s airport and uncovered inappropriate gifts given to government appointees.  Kovaleski’s reports resulted in significant changes in airport operations and in tighter regulations governing gifts and travel.  As the winner of the prestigious Alfred I. DuPont-Columbia award in 2010, the national Edward R. Murrow Award for Investigative Journalism, the Sigma Delta Chi award, the National Headliner award and more than 26 Emmy Awards including this year’s Emmy for Investigative Journalism, he is considered one of the country’s premiere investigative reporters.  Kovaleski is a graduate of San Jose State University with a degree in Journalism.

Investigative reporter Jenna Susko comes to NBC Bay Area after working at television stations in the southeastern United States.  She has built a reputation for quality investigative reporting with stories about poor oversight of FEMA funds across the Gulf Coast, mismanagement in a court system allowing criminals to easily get cases dismissed and security flaws at a local school system.  Susko has a degree from Florida State University in Communications and English Literature.

“As we increase our investment in high-quality local journalism, we are very pleased to welcome these two investigative journalists to the Bay Area and into our newsroom,” said Richard Cerussi, President and General Manager of NBC Bay Area.  “Tony and Jenna are the first of many new team members who will allow us to bring Bay Area viewers more of the kind of in-depth investigations that result in positive change.”

Groovy New Swiss International Air Lines Jumbo Starts Non-Stop SFO-Zurich Flights

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

Now, I already told you about the plans for SWISS to start “direct” non-stop flights back and forth to sister-city* Zurich six days a week, so I won’t have to remind you about the thirsty, thirsty, unlucky and unloved Airbus A340** jumbo or McKinsey and Company’s Hunter (aka Jägermeister) Strategy, the very same eggheaded strategery that finished off the predecessor of SWISS. Anyway, everything has gone as planned – that’s the news of the day.

Switzerland’s new flag carrier has followed through and put new non-stop flights on its sked as of this week. And here’s something I didn’t know – they have this San Francisco-themed livery that’s far out and groovy. Basically, this special new paint sticker job tells the story of an epic voyage from the land of dairy cows to the land of fruits and nuts, complete with a reference to the Kraken and squid-infested waters of the North Atlantic. Some are dissappointed with the Summer of Love theme but oh well.

Check it:

*San Francisco has lots and lots of sister cities. It ain’t no big thang, actually.

**The A340 is basically an A330 twinjet that’s been stretched and that’s had another couple of engines tacked on. (The wings had to be strengthened more than once to handle the extra engines – engineers were repeatedly surprised with how wobbly things got during testing.) A340s have had more than their fair share of freak accidents and hull losses, but they haven’t killed any of their passengers, so that’s good. Now, does Airbus wish it had done a Giant Twin instead, you know, something like the wildly successful Boeing 777? Oh hell yes. An A777 would have been awesome for Airbus. Oh well. You, as a passenger, don’t have to worry about all that, you just have to kick in a bit more to help pay for the extra avgas required for the extra engines. Oh well, enjoy your stretched-out Flying Pencil.

All the deets. (The CEO’s name is Harry Hohmeister(!), for real. Means “river master” or something, surprisingly enough)

MAYOR NEWSOM ANNOUNCES LAUNCH OF SWISS SFO-ZURICH SERVICE WITH NEW SPECIAL EDITION SF PLANE
San Francisco, CA— Mayor Gavin Newsom today welcomed Swiss International
Air Lines (SWISS) flight LX38, a playfully painted A340 making its debut on
the inaugural flight from Zurich to SFO. A host of San Francisco and Swiss

Francisco 60’s-inspired mural complete with peace signs, musical notes and
guitars. The new SWISS service will operate six times per week, departing
SFO at 7:25 pm and arriving in Zurich at 3:40 pm the following day.  There
is no service on Tuesdays.
“Congratulations to SWISS on its new premium non-stop service from Zurich,”

San Francisco’s Virgin America Airlines Gets Its Own Reality Show March 24th: Fly Girls

Friday, February 26th, 2010

San Francisco-based Virgin America Airlines has its own “docu-series” starting up on March 24th at 9:30 PM on the CW – it’s called Fly Girls (and it’s not to be confused with the In Living Color/Jennifer Lopez kind of Fly Girls from the 90′s).

Take a look. Meet Mandalay, a local “girl” who’s a Virgin America flight attendant based out of SFO in real life. Listen to her go on about the “romance of aviation” and the benefits of choosing Virgin America, the only California-based airline left by the way.

Barbie, Skipper, and the “ethnic girlfriends of Barbie” (or, more politely, a “mini- United Nations of races and ethnicities“) are coming soon to KBCW-TV channel 44 / 45 and all the CW stations across America. Oh yes, their “real” names (or “reel” names) are Tasha, Louise, Mandy (or Mandi), Nikole and Farrah:

Doesn’t this promo shot from the CW Network of former beauty queen Nikole look just like a Virgin America ad?

This show is going to be something like eight half-hour Virgin America infomercials complete with 30-second commercials for shampoo and cosmetics. Nevertheless, it’s going to be better than NBC’s high-budget San Francisco-based Trauma serial, that’s a given from the get-go. (Wonder if cheeky Virgin Airlines founder Sir Richard Branson will make an appearance or two…)

Just discovered that my aging Trinitron (that could be older than you) actually receives channel 44 so I’ll be sure to tune in to check out the debut.

Excelsior, Ever Upward.

Now, meet the Fly Girls and get more deets after the jump.

Bailed-Out Swiss International to Start SFO-to-Zurich Non-Stop Service in June 2010

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

Well, you can read the press release below. Or better yet, check out the refreshingly frank Wikipedia entry on Swiss International Air Lines and/or the prior SwissAir, which followed the Mckinsey & Company’s “Hunter Strategy” for too long. (You can read about that fiasco in B-School.)

Billions of bailout dollars (or whatever) later, the Swiss sort of have a vibrant national carrier again.

Anyway, if you’re flying to Switzerland, this will do. The Airbus A340 jumbo is nobody’s idea of a successful design (what with its surplus of fuel-sucking engines in this Big Twin Era), but it’ll get you there and back, six days a week, as a pampered guest of SWISS CEO Harry Hohmeister (his real name, srsly).

Imagine this bird at SFO:

Something New: “Oyster Hotel Reviews” Shows What Your Next Hotel Will Look Like

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Oyster Hotel Reviews recently sent some of its “reporters” to the 415, and man oh man, they took pictures of everything inside of 47 of our nicer joints. So if you’re obsessed with what your potential hotel room will look like, then you’re going to want to see this.

Click to soak up the new San Francisco section.

oyster copy

See all the pics of individual hotel rooms? Oh man, that’s a lot of photos – and they’re all the same basic style, very straightforward with lots of fish-eye lens shots. (Images would look very different if you unleashed the kids from CaliberSF and let them roam San Francisco’s finest hotel rooms, of course.)

But if you want to see how things look, like if you want to see multiple angles of the big flat screen TV in the Astor Suite at the Reeg, well have at it.

Presenting “Bathroom at The Astor Suite of The St. Regis San Francisco, 2009.” Just a tiny TV in the bathroom, of course:

astor-suite-the-st-regis-san-francisco-v569472-1024 copy

Another thing: Oyster has listed our pros and cons for tout le monde to see. Here’s a selection:

Pros:

Sea lions at Pier 39
Liberalism and political activism
Epicenter of gay rights movements
Thriving gay scene, especially in Castro District

Cons:

Microclimates within the city means it can be sunny in one neighborhood and gray in the next
Taxis can be frustratingly few and far between.
Vagrancy and panhandling are common.
Locals consider some areas, like Fisherman’s Wharf and the Castro, intolerable tourist traps.
Street parking can be a blood sport; hotel parking is expensive.
(Very) slight chance of earthquakes

Boy, they’ve got us pegged, huh?

Anyway, they’ve also done New York, Los Angeles, Hawaii, Las Vegas, Miami, the Caribbean – the list goes on. Check it out, after the jump.

Ahora, el mundo es su ostra!
