A San Francisco Question: What Three Brands of Car are So Special Their Owners Don’t Need to Worry About Front License Plates?

Thursday, November 9th, 2017

1) Porsche. This brand has gotta be the #1 offender in Frisco. The funny thing is that Porsches in Germany have front license plates, but low aspect ratio American license plates apparently mar the good looks of these rides stateside.

2) Tesla. I mean, they all look the same from the front without a FLP, right?

Just one after the other…

Same-o same-o:

3) BMW. I don’t have a shot of a recent BMW without an FLP, but they’re out there, all over.

Why is it that regular ppl have FLP’s and richers don’t even though they should?

Seems odd…

A Y-Combinator Startup Named FLOCK is Mounting License Plate Scanners in the Street Trees of Frisco – Here’s 20th and Guerrero

Monday, September 4th, 2017

Check it out, Gentle Reader. Via Mike Murphy, we see this:

Early stage: This surveillance startup wants to put cameras in your neighborhood – The cameras already have captured evidence of two crimes

That leads us to this:

Capturegfgrrrr

And that is the intersection of 20th and Guerrero, call it 3699 20th Street if you want:

Capturefsddddgtghh

Just look at this poor Indian Laurel Fig (Ficus retusa) – it’s literally in “poor condition” already and then Y Combinator / Flock nails on a license plate camera to monetize the sidewalk trees of Frisco by spying on you and yours?

Sure looks that way.

And this is just a block or so away from Mark Zuckerberg’s San Francisco residence?

Sure looks that way.

So this is/was a “demonstration?” How long did it last, one wonders? And SFGov signed off on this?

Mmmm…

SFPD “Horse Mounted Officers” in Traffic – A Herd on Kearny – What’s Changed in 166 Years?

Friday, February 20th, 2015

Of course back in ’49, you know, 1849, some people were still calling Kearny Street La Calle de la Fundacion – it was the start of the grid system of streets we know today.

Anyway, not much has changed since the founding of the SFPD 166 years ago – a time-traveling gold miner from back then would have no problem understanding this aspect of The Future:

Telemetry Transceivers, Baker Street, Western Addition, San Francisco

Wednesday, November 12th, 2014

No these aren’t brand-new ShotSpotter gunfire detectors, as I initially thought.

They’re telemetry transceivers to give MUNI vehicles signal priority, per the Richmond District Blog:

Now here’s a shot from 2011 on Scott Street in the Western Addition – I don’t know what all this stuff is:

I don’t think any of them have anything to do with signal priority…
