Friday, October 4th, 2013

You think you’re special, Angelenos?

You’re not special.

Anyway, nice headgear, Hollywood.

But remember, minimum wage in these parts is $10.55 an hour. (Sometimes you Hollywood people don’t understand that.)

All right, on with the show:

Someday, I’ll wear noteworthy headgear and ride a tourist bus around town.

Know Your UCSF Doctors: Hey Look, It’s Dr. Pam Ling, the Med Student from MTV’s “The Real World San Francisco” in 1994

Thursday, September 6th, 2012

You’re too young to remember the era before the Internet, but back in the day, MTV was all we had.* So it was a BFD when the MTV came to town to stage a reality show back in 1994.

Pamela Ling was one of the characters. She played a medical student, which wasn’t hard, because, you know, she was a med student at the time.

Anyway, she became a doctor at UCSF and that where she labors some 18 years later.

See?

Oh, and there was Puck, who pretended to be a bike messenger.

Man, some real bike messengers didn’t like him. That’s what I recall.

Ah mem’ries…

*Well, not me. Cable’s for suckers, these days and back in the day. I think my friend would videotape this show and then we’d watch it off of the VHS.

Know Your Corporate Buses, You Know, Because SFMTA MUNI DPT Sucks: Genentech and Google San Bruno

Monday, August 6th, 2012

Here’s Genentech in its current can’t miss-it-livery with the DNA or the RNA or what have you.

Boy, what do you think the area transit foamers did after they saw this design for the first time?

And here’s the rare Google Bus what doesn’t go to Mountain View – it was labeled SBO-SFO, I assume because it goes to the YouTube facility in the part of San Bruno what didn’t get blown up by PG&E:

I was surprised to see the Genentech bus appear to maneuver to drop off just one employee.

What other big local outfits drive interstate-type buses about the 415? Apple? That’s the only one I can think of.

Keep on keeping on, our corporate overlords…

OMG, Rapper and Actor Ludacris Surprises the Students of Thurgood Marshall High – The Get Schooled Challenge 2010

Monday, November 8th, 2010

Well look who popped into Thurgood Marshall Academic High School at 2:00 PM Friday afternoon – it was Ludacris!

Check it:

“The Get Schooled Challenge Bus crossed the Golden Gate Bridge into San Francisco, bringing with it some familiar faces. The students at Thurgood Marshall Academic High School received a shock, as their guest lecturers included Grammy winner Ludacris, along with MTV’s Sway and Big Von. For nearly an hour, 800 students sat and listened (well, to be fair there was also some dancing) as this roster of urban icons explained the value of education.”

Here are the videos and here are the photos.
