Here’s the news of the day from our Presidio Trust, or perhaps it was last week’s - I’m kind of slow on the the uptake sometimes:
“PRESIDENT OBAMA TAPS BUSINESS, CIVIC LEADERS FOR PRESIDIO TRUST BOARD – NANCY BECHTLE RE-APPOINTED BOARD’S CHAIR
Presidio of San Francisco (August 14, 2012) — President Barack Obama has named two prominent Bay Area leaders — Paula R. Collins and Alex Mehran — to the Presidio Trust Board of Directors. The White House also re-appointed Nancy Bechtle as board chair. Ms. Collins and Mr. Mehran are replacing outgoing board members J. Michael Shepherd and Bill Wilson.
Paula R. Collins is the chief executive officer of WDG Ventures, Inc., a real estate development company in Northern California, and president of Portfolio Real Estate Consulting.
Part of the original project development team for the Moscone Convention Center, Ms. Collins is a founder and director of Presidio Bank in San Francisco, a member of the national board of the Automobile Association of America and has served as an appointee to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Visiting Committee for the Department of Urban Studies and Planning. In addition, she is co-chair of the Board of Directors for the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, a member of the board of the Special Olympics for Northern California and has served on the Board of Directors of the BRIDGE Housing Corporation. Ms. Collins has been awarded the prestigious Silver Spur Award by the San Francisco Planning and Urban Research organization, in honor of her dedication to improving the quality of life and economic health of San Francisco; and has been honored by the National Coalition of 100 Black Women and the San Francisco Business Times. She graduated cum laude in urban studies from Mt. Holyoke College in Massachusetts and received her master’s degree in city planning from MIT. Ms. Collins replaces Mr. Shepherd on the board.
A Bay Area native, Alex Mehran is the president and chief executive officer of Sunset Development Company, a San Ramon based real estate development, investment, construction and management company founded by his father almost 60 years ago.
Mr. Mehran is chair of the Contra Costa Economic Partnership, a trustee of the San Francisco Ballet and a member of the University of California, San Francisco Chancellor’s Associates. In addition, he is a past chairman and current executive committee member of the Bay Area Council and is a former trustee of the Urban Land Institute and the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. Mr. Mehran received his bachelor’s degree from Harvard College, where he graduated with honors. He earned a law degree, also with honors, from England’s Cambridge University. Mr. Mehran replaces Mr. Wilson.
“Alex and Paula are joining the board at a very exciting time – the Presidio Trust is now financially self-sufficient and we are seeing the benefits of a decade worth of investments in the park,” said Craig Middleton, Presidio Trust Executive Director. “Alex and Paula will be instrumental in helping us expand the public benefit of the Presidio to the local community and the nation.”
A fourth generation San Franciscan, Nancy Bechtle grew up across the street from the Presidio, and, as a child would scale the base’s walls to play in Julius Kahn Park. Once, she was even kicked out for riding her horse on the base. Appointed to the Trust’s board by President George W. Bush in 2008, Ms. Bechtle was first elected chair in 2009. She is chairman of the board of the Sugar Bowl Corporation, serves on the board of directors for the Charles Schwab Corporation and is a former chief financial officer and director of J.R. Bechtle and Company. A past president and chief executive officer of the San Francisco Symphony, Ms. Bechtle has served on the symphony’s board of governors since 1984 and has also served on the board of the San Francisco Opera Association. In addition she has served on the board of the National Park Foundation, holding the board’s citizen chair from 2005 to 2007. Ms. Bechtle recently received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Commonwealth Club of San Francisco and has received a Lifetime Achievement in the Arts Award from the California Arts Council and the Investment in Leadership award from the Coro Foundation, among her many other honors.
“I am pleased to welcome these very talented and accomplished people to the board,” said Nancy Bechtle. “The experience that Paula and Alex bring will be great assets as the Trust expands its public-serving programs while continuing to keep an eye on ensuring the park’s self-sufficiency.”
The Presidio Trust is governed by a seven-member board of directors. Six members are appointed by the President of the United States. The seventh is the U.S. Secretary of the Interior or his designee. An executive director reports to the board and oversees a staff with expertise including environmental science, historic preservation, operations and maintenance, landscape design, planning, resource management, real estate development, public affairs and programs, law, and finance.

The Presidio Trust was established by the United States Congress in 1996 to administer the Presidio of San Francisco, an urban national park site that is located at the base of the Golden Gate Bridge. The areas overseen by the Trust include expansive open space and spectacular views, a 300-acre historic forest, and rare and endangered plants and wildlife. The park comprises nearly 6 million square feet of buildings, including 469 historic structures that contribute to the Presidio’s status as a National Historic Landmark District.”

Things really didn’t get hopping until the fog went away in the afternoon, but the 2011 Haight Ashbury Street Fair went off without a hitch, with nary a peep from the notorious NIMBYs of the Western Addition.

The day is upon us.
Sunday, June 12, 2011, from 11am to 5:30pm. Come one, come all! Once a year, on the second Sunday in June, the Haight-Ashbury community hosts a special celebration and everyone in the World is invited. Music is in the air; people dance in the streets; a festive atmosphere springs up; and Haight Street, once again, becomes the center of Peace, Love and Happiness. This annual event is the Haight-Ashbury Street Fair, one of the most highly anticipated public events in San Francisco.
The 34th Annual Haight-Ashbury Street Fair will be taking place on Sunday, June 12, 2011, from 11 am until 5:30 pm. A variety of activities will be taking place including three stages offering live entertainment; a six-block Vending Area featuring arts & crafts, food and other merchandise; an area dedicated to the entertainment of families with children; and an opportunity to celebrate with many other like-minded people.Directions and Access to the Haight Ashbury Street Fair
Above all things, we highly recommend that you and your friends take the public transportation systems to get to the Street Fair. Parking spaces are very limited and, besides, why spend your time roaming around in your car while you could be enjoying the Street Fair first hand. Here are some leads on how you can make your way to the Haight-Ashbury Street Fair.
MUNI: The Haight-Ashbury is served by six routes that directly serve this neighborhood. They are #6 – Parnassus, #7 – Haight, #33 – Ashbury, #37 – Corbet, #43 – Masonic and #71 – Noriega. Each of these lines travel directly to the Haight-Ashbury District. Other lines that serve the neighborhood indirectly are the N-Judah streetcar, #21 Hayes and the #5 Fulton. First off, get up-to-speed on the whole House Speaker Nancy Pelosi military jet issue right here at Snopes.
Now, take a look at what Judicial Watch has “uncovered” in their release from this morning, below.
Basically, it says that Nancy travels around a lot under the rules set up under George W. Bush. Does this surprise you? Of course she’s required to fly on military aircraft in this post-9/11 world, so she flies on military a/c. Does this surprise you? And when she flew with a congressional delegation to Iraq, somebody on the plane drank, wait for it, beer! Does this surprise you? Would you like to know which brand? Corona! Does this surprise you? Now, did it come with a lime wedge? Natch! How could it not? But sadly, the report contains no confirmation regarding this important issue…
The crappy C20B military jet that Nancy Pelosi sometimes uses, with noisy, archaic low-bypass engines that would look comfortable hanging off a plane from the 1950′s. This thing is the K-Car of private jets. It’s older than you – it’s straight out of the 1970′s:
(Personally, I’d rather fly coach on JetBlue or the Virgin America. And that way I could land in the bay area at SFO or OAK instead of freaking Solano County, East of the East Bay)

Judicial Watch Uncovers New Documents Detailing Pelosi’s Use of Air Force Aircraft
Records Indicate Pelosi Used Air Force Aircraft for 85 Trips Covering 206,264 Miles from March 2009 through June 2010
Pelosi’s Family Members Included on at least Two Flights
WASHINGTON, Oct. 14 / –Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, announced today that it has obtained new documents from the United States Air Force detailing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s repeated use of United States Air Force aircraft. According to the documents, obtained by Judicial Watch through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), Pelosi used Air Force aircraft on 85 flights from March 2009 through June 2010. Members of Pelosi’s family were guests on at least two flights.
Among the highlights from the documents, obtained pursuant to a FOIA request filed on January 25, 2009:
– Pelosi used the Air Force aircraft for a total of 85 trips, covering
206,264 miles, from March 2, 2009 through June 7, 2010. Pelosi, her
guests and Air Force personnel logged a total of 428.6 hours on these
flights.
– Members of Pelosi’s family were guests on at least two flights. On
June 20, 2009, Speaker Pelosi’s daughter, son-in-law and two grandsons
joined a flight from Andrews Air Force Base to San Francisco
International Air Port. That flight included $143 in on-flight
expenses for food and other items. On July 2, 2010, Pelosi took her
grandson on a flight from Andrews Air Force Base to Travis Air Force
Base in Fairfield, California, which is northeast of San Francisco.
According to previous documents uncovered by Judicial Watch, Speaker’s military travel cost the United States Air Force $2,100,744.59 over a two-year period – $101,429.14 of which was for in-flight expenses, including food and alcohol. For example, purchases for one Pelosi-led congressional delegation traveling from Washington, DC, through Tel Aviv, Israel to Baghdad, Iraq May 15-20, 2008 included: Johnny Walker Red scotch, Grey Goose vodka, E&J brandy, Bailey’s Irish Creme, Maker’s Mark whiskey, Courvoisier cognac, Bacardi Light rum, Jim Beam whiskey, Beefeater gin, Dewar’s scotch, Bombay Sapphire gin, Jack Daniels whiskey, Corona beer and several bottles of wine.

Lovely “Helicopter Hero” Aimee Garcia had a mishap a few days back in San Francisco while filming a scene for new (and improved?) Trauma.
As she recently related to NBC’s Natalie Morales:
“I was doing a scene where my ex-military boyfriend gets in a fight, and it was scripted that I just stand there … I just got involved. I pulled one actor off of another and they loved it. They said, ‘Keep doing it.’ We did it 12 times and I didn’t realize on the first take I broke my finger.”

A finger mishap always makes for good TV of course, especially when you don’t lie about it.
Let’s hope Aimee can get her left hand back on that giant twirlypopper’s collective control sooner rather than later.

Take a look for yourself to see dude just drive off the Bay Bridge due to a moment’s inattention in last night’s episode of NBC’s Trauma serial. (Do you think you’d survive after falling so far inside a Jeep Cherokee Classic? I don’t think it’d be possible, but maybe the breast implants inside the car softened the jolt or something.)
Yesterday’s relaunch, debuting the first new ep since November 2009, earned ratings of 1.4/3, which are 22% lower than last year’s average for the show.
Shooting in North Beach as it looked last year near the top of Kearny Street, the most-filmed block on any street in Northern California:
Anyway the bad ratings add up to trouble, according to The Wrap:
“The problem started at 9 p.m., with the previously sorta-canceled “Trauma” (1.4/3) returning from the grave as a Nielsen zombie. It hit its lowest rating yet, falling 22 percent from its fall average and 13 percent from its last original. It wouldn’t be shocking if NBC decided to quickly replace “Trauma” in the timeslot. That’s because “Trauma” tainted “L&O,” which managed a third-place 1.5/4 at 10 p.m. — down 25 percent from last week, when NBC aired a double dose of the drama from 9-11 p.m. Worse, “L&O” was actually off 6 percent from what “The Jay Leno Show” had been averaging at 10 p.m. Mondays.
“NBC — which actually did quite well last week, given the fact that it had to fill 5 hours of primetime post-Jay– does not want to see any negative Leno-to-scripted comparisons at 10 p.m. Period.”
Not saying I would or could do a better job, but maybe the whole concept of shooting this kind of old-school TV show on location on the Streets of San Francisco was a bad idea? Is that possible?

Why, it’s almost as if the people behind NBC’s Trauma serial have figured out a thing or two. Comes now Cliff Curtis, the New Zealand star who plays “cocky” helicopter pilot Rabbit, to say:
“The characters weren’t developed properly at first.
We took a lot of creative license, but learned from it.
We listened to the audience and to critics, and were able to satisfy a lot of complaints about the characters.
We improved the humor and the action on the front line.”
It’s almost like they’re shooting a whole new show! Good on you, Rabbit. Remember how excited people were when gorgeous Jennifer Siebel Newsom was in the pilot episode? Maybe we can get some of that back.

Shooting for, what shall we call it,
Trauma II: This Time We Mean It moves to the East Bay tomorrow. Actually, they were looking for extras with Pakistani heritage just the other day. But keep in mind that when you’re an extra working on Treasure Island you get paid $1.79 more per hour than when you’re an extra working in Oakland. Why? It all has to do with the minimum wage. Anyway, you might be too late for this, but there could be other gigs coming up:
Take heart, extras - I can recall a time when the minimum wage was a lot less than $64/8-hour day. Oh well.
And of course the
TV addicts are, once again, talking about how, once again,
Trauma is a “goner”.
No matter, re-re-newed filming should continue ’til March or April, and then we’ll just have to wait and see, huh?

Conan O’Brien’s trauma, that whole deal where he’s losing his Tonight Show gig, is helping to keep NBC’s horrible Trauma serial a few paces ahead of the grim reaper. News just came out about how NBC is ordering four more shows to help fill the prime-time hole left by Jay Leno moving from 10:00 PM back to 11:35 PM.
That means that Season One will end up with 20 episodes at the very least.
Will there be a Season Two for Trauma? Only Time Will Tell.
Rest assured, twirlypopper pilot / couch potato Aimee Garcia will still maintain her official website regardless of when Trauma gets cancelled.

Nancy Hellman Bechtle ‘s resume is now a little bit longer, as she’s just become the chair of the Presidio Trust‘s Board of Directors per today’s press release from spokesperson Dana Polk.

San Francisco Community Leader and Park Advocate Nancy Hellman Bechtle
Elected New Chair of Presidio Trust Board of Directors
Presidio of San Francisco (December 22, 2009) – The Presidio Trust Board of Directors has elected Nancy Hellman Bechtle as the new chair of the Trust board. A community leader and long-time park advocate, Bechtle was appointed to the Presidio Trust Board of Directors by President George W. Bush in January 2008.
“Nancy will make a wonderful board chair,” said Craig Middleton, Presidio Trust Executive Director. “Her experience in park advocacy will be extremely valuable as the Trust continues to make improvements that enhance the visitor experience of the park. Nancy’s business acumen will help ensure that the Trust continues to make prudent decisions as we meet our requirements for financial self-sufficiency.”
A fourth-generation San Franciscan who has lived within five blocks of the Presidio since she was in grammar school, Bechtle comes from a family committed to philanthropy and civic involvement. She served from 2002 to 2008 on the National Park Foundation Board of Directors and as Citizen Chair of that foundation from 2006-2008. Bechtle was President and Chief Executive Officer of the San Francisco Symphony for 14 years, and has been on the Symphony Board of Governors since 1984. She currently serves on the board of directors for the Charles Schwab Corporation and is the chair of the board for the Sugar Bowl Corporation. Bechtle and her daughter, Jessica Galloway, recently co-chaired the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy’s (Conservancy) Trails Forever dinner, which raised over $887,000 for trails and programs in the park. The amount raised was the highest of any Trails Forever dinner.
Bechtle is the third chair of the Trust board, and shares the previous chairs’ commitment to parks. David H. Grubb served as board chair from December 2003 until July 2008. Grubb served previously on the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy Board of Trustees and he chaired the project committee for the Crissy Field restoration effort, completed in 2001. The first chair of the Trust board, Toby Rosenblatt, served for 8 years. Rosenblatt was a founding member of the Presidio Council, and he chaired the Conservancy board.
The Presidio Trust is governed by a seven-member board of directors. Six members are appointed by the President of the United States. The seventh is the U.S. Secretary of the Interior or his designee.
“I am honored and excited to be appointed chair of the board of the Presidio Trust,” said Bechtle. “David Grubb did a wonderful job as chair and he will be a hard act to follow.” William Wilson served as interim board chair after Grubb’s departure and will now resume his position as vice chair.
Bechtle has received several honors, including the Lifetime Achievement in the Arts from the California Arts Council and the Investment in Leadership Award from the Coro Foundation. She has also served on the boards of the San Francisco Opera Association and the Charles and Helen Schwab Foundation. She was Chief Financial Officer and Director for J.R. Bechtle & Company from 1979 to 1998.
The Presidio Trust was established by the United States Congress in 1996 to administer the Presidio of San Francisco, an urban national park located at the base of the Golden Gate Bridge. The areas overseen by the Trust include expansive open space and spectacular views, a 300-acre historic forest, and rare and endangered plants and wildlife. The park comprises nearly 6 million square feet of buildings, including 469 historic structures that contribute to the Presidio’s status as a National Historic Landmark District.
