And here comes the backlash, here’s the concomitant anti-1481 Post Street group, SOS Cathedral Hill, or SAVE CATHEDRAL HILL, or something like that.

That’s what you call a dramaturgical dyad, redolent of 8 Washington, IMO.

BTW, this group is claiming “No Community Outreach,” but what they really mean is no community outreach this month or no community outreach right now.

If anybody has a non-maudlin argument or anecdote or something against this building, I’d like to hear it. ‘Cause, so far, I haven’t heard it yet.

It seems to me that 1481 Post would slot right in with all the others in this part of the Western Addition, in this part of town betwixt the Tenderloin and J-Town…

It’s a mere formality now, this plan from July 11th, 2014 to give a metric ton of street parking spaces over to ZipCar and the like.

Hey look, even spaces on the side of the block where I live.

Like, I don’t care, but man the NIMBY’s are not going to be happy with this, NOT ONE BIT! If the spaces get used too much, it’ll piss off the NIMBYs. But if the spaces get used not that much, it will also piss off the NIMBYs.

What’s next, spaces reserved for Avis and Hertz cars? Perhaps. Why not?

If you stop in one of these spaces in your private car, you risk a ticket. If you go and actually park in one of these spaces, you know, like you’ve been doing the past two decades, well, you’re going to get towed, with extreme prejudice. And that will run you $500-$1000. So, respect!

As with every other program SFGov does, some of us will win and some of us will lose.

Oh well.

Oh, hey, what about street cleaning? Is ZipCar going to get a pass on this or will they send somebody out to move the cars for two hours (ala Kramer in Seinfeld) or will something else occur? I know not.

These people parked across the street from our popular Trader Joes on Masonic, as many people do, ’cause the TJ’s parking lot is too small, ’cause that’s what nearby residents wanted.

Our Planning Department created this disaster and then moved on to more important work, such as the failed 8 Washington project, oh well.

Fixes have been tried, but still we’ve got this parade of customers jaywalking back and forth across this stretch of 30 MPH Masonic, thusly, from a few days back:

Cars were coming in the fast lanes both northbound and southbound, so their only choice was to wait for the black car to pass and then sprint behind it.

This game has been going on for years, with many shoppers playing, and some getting hit by vehicles.

Sunday, April 20th Activities in Golden Gate Park and the Haight-Ashbury

This Sunday, April 20th, will see not only Easter celebrations throughout the City, but the likely return of an informal and unpermitted “4/20” gathering in Golden Gate Park and the Haight, which has caused significant problems in the community over the years and was particularly problematic last year.

Crowds strained police, Muni, and park resources, overwhelmed residential streets, and in several instances, damaged public and private property. Traffic came to a standstill as cars swarmed thearea. Garbage overflowed from curbside cans that proved unequal to the occasion. And on Sunday, 4/21, staff and volunteers with the Recreation and Parks Department had to laboriously collect over 10,000 pounds of litter left in the parks, not to mention the trash collected by the Department of Public Works from the upper Haight to Hayes Valley.

I am determined not to allow these impacts again this year. Over the past months, I have worked closely with the Police and Parks Departments, Mayor Lee’s office, and the MTA on a comprehensive city approach to this event. There is no sponsor for 4/20, no organizer to hold to account. But I want the community to know that their Supervisor and their government are doing everything possible to ensure a safe, peaceful April 20th for both visitors and residents.

San Francisco, as always, welcomes celebrants with open arms, but this Sunday there will be boundaries to keep the community safe, and there will be no tolerance for anyone using 4/20 as an excuse to harm our parks or neighborhoods.

 There will be increased law enforcement presence both uniform and plainclothes—including Juvenile Probation Officers—in the Park, upper and lower Haight, and surrounding neighborhoods with a strict enforcement approach to all code violations.

 Parking is very limited in the area, and there will be Parking Control Officers (PCOs) ticketing and/or towing vehicles parked illegally in any way, e.g. on lawns or in neighbors’ driveways. PCOs will also be deployed at busy intersections to keep traffic and transit moving.

 Unpermitted booths and concessions in the Parks will not be allowed. Such enterprises will be immediately cited and removed.

 Traffic control officers, SFPD, and Muni will be on hand in the afternoon to help move visitors out of the neighborhoods quickly and safely. Muni will reroute buses off Haight Street between Stanyan and Masonic to avoid delays. 

If our neighborhoods and parks are expected to continue hosting a large gathering, without an organizer or any resources beyond those provided by the taxpayer, we must all be vigilant in ensuring the event is safe, clean, and responsible.

Let’s start of with how people get across a different part of Masonic Avenue a bit lower down Mervyn’s Heights – note that that area is at the crest of a hill.

Compare that part of Masonic with the first block of Masonic just north of Geary. See that? All of those people are NOT on crest, they’re on a slope so they can’t see what’s coming.

What SFO Needs are Longer Runways that are Farther Apart, What SFO is Getting are $7000 Fritz Hansen “Egg” Chairs

All is forgiven, United, ’cause I’m sitting on one of your “iconic” egg chairs.*

And of course the rest of Terminal 3 will soon be loaded up with every other flavor of the month airport accessory.

But the citizens of San Francisco don’t owe the flying public an assortment of googaws, no no. What the citizens of San Francisco  owe the flying public are longer, better runways that are farther apart from each other, you know, runways that don’t need a special dispensation from the FAA. To wit:

Damn the torpedo fish (or whatever else is down there), full speed ahead (with longer and better runways farther apart)

OK then.

And oh, the concomitant Egg™ Footstool costs thousands of dollars  as well.

OMG, the BIGGEST 18-Wheeler Tractor Trailer Allowed in CA – On Masonic, by San Francisco Day School – CityTarget Truck

IMO, it’s more fun to not explain things, but here we go, let’s pay off that headline:

1. God damn, this trailer is freaking huge – I’ve never seen one bigger. This aint no 20-footer and it aint no 40 footer. It’s a 53-footer. It’s Harder Better Faster Stronger. It’s as big* an 18-wheeler tractor trailer as you’re ever going to see, Gentle Reader.

2. Now here’s what pisses some people off about San Francisco Day School. These parents enter their kinder into the San Francisco SFUSD school busing program lottery. And, because they don’t already have an older kid already in a good public school AND because they don’t live a “low test score area” (like in parts of The Mission or near The Projects), they lose out in the lottery. So then they say, all right, well, we’ve lost the lottery, but we can simply pony up $27k(!) to put our four-year-old into a private school. But then they have to qualify by being interviewed. And then, sometimes, they get rejected. And then they get seriously pissed off. Anywho, Masonic Avenue / Boulevard is reason #1 why SFDS will never be a high status school (in comparison with the tonier outfits up in Specific Whites Pacific Heights.) Masonic is how the Jennie Zhus of this world get back and forth betwixt San Francisco Proper and the westside, The Avenues, the West Bay neighborhoods like The Richmond and The Sunset. Masonic, for better or worse, is a freeway substitute and it will always be that way and, for the worse, it’s the front door of SFDS. These days there’s a plan afoot to put in trees and a median that will slow down all the cars and the occasional MUNI bus, but that won’t really change things for SFDS. All the parents and nannies will still double park on neighboring streets, oh well. Look at the photo and there it is, the SFDS.

3. Oh man, the millionaire property owners of the lily-white “NOPNA” Northeast of Panhandle Homeowners Association DID NOT want to see those, those people shopping at a retail store up at Geary and Masonic again, oh no, but that’s what’s happening despite their best efforts. I myself didn’t object to the CityTarget, you know, but even I’m a little surprised to see such a big rig heading up Mervyn’s Heights with the Target targets on the side.

Just saying.

Of course, all of the above was implied by the simple photo and short headline…

*Unless you move to Texas, and even then…

**Who’s getting interviewed, really, the parents or the kid? IDK. I’ll tell you, I bet if Will Smith tried to get his kid into this joint, there’d be no problem, no problem at all. But if you don’t impress SFDS enough to get a green light, you’re money’s no good there.
