Or at least that’s the way it seems from Twin Peaks.

How did you prepare for Thanksgiving on Wednesday afternoon? Probably you were stealing iPhones off of MUNI’s N Judah? No? Really? All right, well somebody was, a teenaged (or tweenaged) girl, in fact.
Par for the course, you say? Well this iPhone was recovered after pursuit from marathoner Chris Phipps. Read all about it on Murphstahoe’s Holier Than You Blog.
And read the informative Tweets below.
See? NextTheft works sometimes. Just like NextMUNI:

Here are the revelatory Tweets from Canabalt-loving Chris Phipps:
“A thief just stole the iPhone of the woman sitting next to me on muni. I jumped off the train, ran after her & caught her in reply to Im4tun8″Echofon from thuntil the SFPD arrived 4:50 PM Nov 25
I yelled “I’m a marathon runner, I will catch you…eventually” 3:46 PM Nov 25th from Echofon
Woman got her iphone back, called 911 & SFPD were here within 3 minutes. 3:48 PM Nov 25th from Echofon
@jeffremer I don’t know about heroic. The thief was a 16yo girl. Had it been a 200 pound guy, I don’t know what I’d do if I caught him 4:01 PM Nov 25th from Echofon
@munialerts N Judah @ Noe & Duboce. Around 3:40 PM4:16 PM Nov 25th from Echofon in reply to munialerts
@Im4tun8 Thanks. Several others in the park who were witnesses stopped to help detain & watch the suspect. Echofon from th. 3:45 PM Nov 25″
So, the next time you see some Apple product flying out the rear door of your MUNI vehicle, ask yourself, What Would Chris Phipps Do?
San Francisco’s Harvey Milk Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Democratic Club had an endorsement election down at the Women’s Building in the Mission District last night. Here’s the upshot, via the Twitter:
“Harvey Milk Dems have endorsed Mandelman in D8, Walker in D6 and Goldstein for College Board. Many thanks to all of you who turned out!”
Get up to speed on the elections next month and next year over at the Usual Suspects.
And oh look, Rafael just made the Hot 40 Under 20 Hot 20 Under 40 list at 7×7 magazine. As seen in Duboce Park:
[UPDATE: Whoops, apparently the Chronicle has two Andrew Rosses covering similar beats? Oh noes! Well, all the better. Speaking of mistakes, what are the odds that I'll see a lit up snowflake on Market Street tonight? About 100%, based on the past two weeks' observation. Oh well. Good thing those snowflakes don't use petroleum-based electricity, huh?]
You see, normally the San Francisco Chronicle’s Andrew S. Ross is lumped together with PhilMatier, thusly:
But sometimes they let him run wild and unchained, all by his lonesome, thusly:
As here, where Andrew Ross gives his take on the order of battle of this morning’s Whole Foods Showdown: Six Flags Over Noe Valley, Don’t Mess With Texas. See what Andrew did there? He fleshed things out, he gave more detail, he added to the story.
Que bueno!
(Now, you give those limited column inches to somebody like C.W. Nevius to check in with 24th Street and what would you get? Well, maybe vitriol and emotion, and maybe that would be it. Oh well.)
Anyway, there’s nothing wrong with M&R together (a quarter mil. we have to pay for horrible, soon-to-be-cancelled Trauma, where the average worker, we’re talking median and mode here, makes rock-bottom minimum wage?), but they should let Andrew out of the bizness ghetto and allow him to run wild over any and all subjects of the day
And that’s the The Bottom Line.
[UPDATE: Whole Foods has started to construct a defensive wall made of pumpkins, but how strong could it be? We'll find out soon enough.]
[UPDATE 2, Electric Boogaloo: War Reporter Andy Wright has extensive coverage from the field of battle]
Oh, it’s going to be on tomorrow morning at the Grand Opening of the new Whole Foods at 3950 24th Street in The Valley. San Francisco’s fifth WF will start the sacred Bread Baking Ceremony at the same time protesters arrive to raise a ruckus about health care reform and CEO John Mackey, mkay?
Everyone is welcome to the store and the protest – highly unlike the invite-only events Whole Foods has recently held for the fearsome neighborhood groups. It’s called outreach or something. Whole Foods just ought to put these neighborhood associations on the payroll the way Sutro Tower, Inc. pays money to neighborhood groups around Mount Sutro to shut them up. A little payola (or granola in a huge goodie bag) can go a long way when you’re trying to placate the NIMBYs, of course.
Anywho, be there at 9:45 AM tomorrow to see San Francisco’s upscale version of Harlan County, USA.
And just think, after the boycott, “You’ll feel proud to come in and get food to serve to your family, friends, and neighbors.” Remember how embarrassed you were serving up that slop from the old Bell Market? Those days are over, soon as the boycott ends.
And if you’re not boycotting, sign up for the store tour on Tuesday, October 6th:
10-11am Please sign up in advance, but the tour is FREE and limited in size. | Details

“We are eagerly awaiting our opening next week on Wednesday, September 30th ! We have been working hard and are so delighted that we’re almost there! Further, we feel incredibly grateful for the support, well wishes, humor, smiles and hospitality that our new community has shown us! The unlicensed commercial dog walkers of leash-free Bernal Heights appear to be overwhelmed at times. Perhaps each one should have an assistant – that would seem fair. Of course, there’s talk about requiring liability insurance and limiting the number pooches per businessperson, up in Marin.
How many pooches can you Spot? Click to expand, they won’t bite:
Were there any doggies inside this unattended pickup? At least one, anyway.
But don’t give just a four-star rating to your dog walker on the Yelp, as he/she would likely take that as an insult. Five stars are de rigueur, it would seem.
(Or “set their sights,” it works either way.) Some feel there’s a big dilemma over San Francisco’s Dolores Park, but really now, you NIMBYs, what were you thinking when you moved in there?
Please consider the silent majority, 419 of whom whom give DP a five star rating. And don’t get the impression that only a park ranger can do something about crime. If you see a real crime going on, the SFPD is prepared to head on in there and deal with it – you don’t have to wait for a Ranger to show up.
If you want to be a help, try to deal with specific issues as opposed to sounding like you’re upset at people enjoying themselves.
Another dreaded sunny day at Parque de Dolores. The horror:
