Golden Gate Park be getting all crowded these days on annual 420 Day, so why not head on down to Noe Valley and light up at 4:20 PM at 420 Day Street instead?
The neighbors will welcome you interloping potheads with open arms. I’m sure!
Actually, Noe Valley is the locus of NIMBY – it’s filled with asshole millionaire homeowners and concomitant neighbor feuding.
Here it is, 420 Day, or close enough. Check out the comically large Planning Commission NOTICE OF HEARING notice on the front gate and the comically small recycling bin out front. (No black garbage can? A point of pride, I’m sure)

Oh, here we go, here’s real 420 Day, not too far from the Haight Street McDonalds on Stanyan.
That’s not fog, that’s a cloud of exhaled Mary Jane:

An excellent capture from world-famous Broke-Ass Stuart.
All right, Happy 420 Day 2013!

It’s not your fault
Wouldn’t the Google Bus have been better off on 24th? I think so.
And hey, didn’t former Supervisor Bevan Dufty meet with area NIMBY’s to iron things out a half-decade ago?
I think so. Actually, I know so. It looked like this:

But the wealthy, white, wizened NIMBYs of Noe still weren’t satisfied.
Oh well.
I hope you’re happy, NIMBIES! Look what you made Google do.
(Or maybe the driver just got lost. You’d think he’d have a map with no-go areas marked out.)
(Do Googlers Google on Sundays? Not that I know of, but they go on fun field trips from time to time, wine tastings and the like, I hear.)
I’ll tell you, Google prolly hasn’t been this embarrassed since that federal cop busted the Maps Car in the Presidio.
Here’s the chase, recorded by Google itself:

And here’s the bust, apparently for not getting a permit from the Presidio Trust after the Presidio Trust told Google it would need a permit:

All right, let’s be careful out there, Google!

OMG, it’s Google Bus #3 heading south on Van Ness Avenue past San Francisco’s City Hall. Next stop, Mountain View, CA
Gold! Real gold. Can you see it in the background? That’s the only flava to be seen in this shot:

You see, some people don’t like buses. They’re called NIMBYs. In the 415, they’re almost all rich, old, white people who have nothing else to do with their lives other than NIMBY. Oh well.
Anyway, Google is trying to keep a low profile, obviously. (I don’t know the current paint scheme of the Google jets, but I’ll bet it’s something more than just black and white. )
See below for other more colorful Google conveyances and appliances, spotted in San Francisco and Mountain View.
Well, here it is, the current generation Google Maps Car. (A Subaru, judging by the Pleiades icon on the nose – for some reason, Google stripped the badges from the rear of this car.)
Are there cameras and SICK laser range finders and WiFi detectors and whatnot on top of this Subie? Who knows…

And here’s what these rides looked like before they got wrapped:

And this was the first generation Map Car, seen getting busted by the Federal popo in the Presidio.

(I have dual sources supporting contradictory stories (so that’s four people promoting two completely different stories) on why this particular Googler got busted, or not busted as the case may be. Oh well. Did the Presidio Trust tell the Google to get a permit? And did Google ignore that request? Don’t know.)
And of course, don’t forget about the Google Bikes:

And the Google office:

And the Google Kitchen – it’s just like a 7-11 except shoplifting is encouraged:

And here’s the concomitant G-Toilet – it costs $700, it has over 20 buttons for its full operation, it’s made in Japan:

So that’s Google’s world.
Bon Courage, Googlers!

OMG, this is it. [Cue O Fortuna]
It’s the fourth anniversary of obscenely-highly-regarded Ike’s Place, so ScoutMob has a free sandwich deal for you.

You can’t beat that.
(I guess Ike won that NIMBY war after all. Good for him.)
Anyway, enjoy.
Count of Monte Chase-O Fortune,
like the moon
you are changeable,
always waxing
or waning;
hateful NIMBYs
first oppress
and then soothe
as fancy takes it;
poverty
and power
but Hot Momma Huda
melts them like ice.
Fate – monstrous
and empty,
you whirling wheel,
stand malevolent,
well-being is vain
and always fades to nothing,
shadowed
and veiled
you plague Ike Shehadeh too;
now through trickery,
I bring my bare back
to your NIMBY villainy.
Fate, in health
and in virtue,
is against me,
driven on
and weighted down,
always enslaved.
So at this hour
without delay
pluck the vibrating string;
since Fate
strikes down the strong man,
everyone weep with me

A couple hundred souls (more or less) packed into 2280 Market this morning to eat pancakes and help former Supervisor Bevan Dufty break in his new campaign headquarters.
Smiles everybody, smiles:

Wow, that’s a lot of phone lines. No robocalls for this campaign let’s hope:

San Francisco Treasurer José Cisneros was on hand to introduce Bevan to all the supporters:

Bon Courage, Bevan Dufty!

“Please join us for a fun morning at the NEW Bevan Dufty for Mayor Campaign Headquarters. Join long time supporters, new volunteers and neighbors for a TEAM BEVAN pancake breakfast and signature drive kickoff event on Saturday June 11th. Come enjoy conversation and learn about opportunities available to all volunteers and donors. Well that’s it, it’s game over, man, there’ll be no Trader Joe’s near Noe and Market anytime soon. See the deets below, from the FaceBook page of District 8 Supervisor Scott Wiener.
Now, for just a moment, forget about all the cars coming to your urban-type TJ’s – what about the trucks, baby? We’re talking BJ and the Bear-style 18-wheelers all over the place outside of our area Traders Joe, every night, mostly, starting at 9:00 PM. Mostly.
Could Market Street have handled this kind of moonlit tractor-trailer pas de trois every night? (Well, s’pose it doesn’t matter now.)
Some of the truckers actually back in to the TJ on Masonic. As seen in Mervyn’s Heights:

All the deets:
“Trader Joe’s NOT coming into the Castro
by Scott Wiener on Monday, March 7, 2011 at 9:32pm
This morning, Trader Joe’s decided not to pursue a new location at Noe and Market Streets (the old Tower Records site). After two years of on-again-off-again consideration of the site, Trader Joe’s decided that the location was not going to work for its business model, one that is fairly reliant on automobile visits.
I’m disappointed about this outcome, because I do believe that Trader Joe’s would have added a great food option for the neighborhood. However, I respect Trader Joe’s decision and think highly of the company.
I will immediately begin working with the property owner to bring in one or more retailers that will add to the neighborhood. This is a priority for me.
On the bright side, Mollie Stone’s will be opening this coming Wednesday, March 9, at 9 a.m. on 18th Street. I hope to see you there.”
Chin up, Castro. Some day your prince will come.

Or maybe the invite is just for area NIMBY’s, don’t know for sure.
(Scott Wiener is Kryptonian of course – that’s why he’s so tall and that’s why he only sleeps three hours a night. He’s an Übermensch or something. An Overman, Overhuman, Above-Human, something in that territory.)
So bring your hankies for a good cry tonight, but please remember:
All Neighbors are Equal, but some Neighbors (the millionaire propertah owners, the small-time bidness owners, especially) are More Equal Than Others.

“Duboce Triangle Neighborhood Association Meeting with Trader Joe’s: All Neighbors Are Invited
“Yes, we know you may have a dinner date on February 14, so why don’t you join us first for chocolates and wine as we talk about Trader Joe’s?
“Trader Joe’s proposes to establish a store at the Market and Noe Center, where Tower Records and Video used to be. Their representatives will publicly present TJ’s plans during our General Meeting, and our neighborhood association will discuss the impacts of this development according to the data we have and how we understand the issue. This proposed business is going to impact not only the residents, but also those who work and own a piece of property in the neighborhood.
“Come early at 7 p.m. to meet and greet neighbors and to enjoy refreshments. The meeting agenda will be discussed at 7:30. The Board and President of Duboce Triangle Neighborhood Association are going to be there, so if you have other concerns you may want to take up with them, this is the most opportune time to come. The meeting will be held at CPMC Davies Hospital, at the Castro St. & Duboce Avenue, in the Auditorium, which is on Level “B.” Meeting is expected to last until 9 p.m. Plenty of time for your own Valentine engagements afterwards.”
And also remember:
Trader Joe’s > Whole Foods
It all has to do with the mark-up.

Uh oh, appears as if normally quiet Noe Valley will liven up at around 4:30 this afternoon.
People like these would prefer if Mayor Gavin Newsom didn’t veto San Francisco’s proposed Alcohol Recovery Fee

All the deets:
Advocates Rally at PlumpJack. Tell Mayor Newsom – Do Nothing!
Mayor Should Recuse Himself From Decision on New SF Alcohol Cost Recovery Fee
What: Demonstration and Rally
When: September 20, 2010 4:30 p.m.
Where: PlumpJack Wines, 4011 24th Street at Noe St., in Noe Valley
Who: Partial list of participants…
§ American Indian Movement – West§ Asian-American Recovery Services§ Bayview Hunters Point Foundation§ Beacon Center§ Horizons Unlimited of SF§ Latino Commission§ Youth Leadership Institute
Why: Last week, the SF Board of Supervisors passed the Alcohol Cost Recovery Fee on a 7-3 vote. Mayor Newsom says he will veto the ordinance, and there are not enough votes to override it—we need eight. San Francisco needs the new fee to recover costs for alcohol-related treatment, prevention, transportation and hospitalization. It’s time for companies who profit from distributing alcohol in San Francisco to pay their fair share of the costs for these services.
Supervisor Alioto-Pier—whose family is in the wine business—declared a conflict of interest and abstained from voting last Tuesday. Now the Mayor should do the same.
The Mayor has significant financial interests in the alcohol business. His millions of alcohol related investments present a similar conflict of interest as Supervisor Alioto-Pier’s. His company, Plumpjack Group, owns 12 separate establishments that make, sell or distribute alcohol. His businesses include 2 wineries, 8 bars and restaurants, and 2 wine shops. Four of these establishments are in San Francisco. He has reported receiving over $200,000 in income per year from alcohol-related business.
Please join these prevention and treatment organizations to demonstrate and deliver a strong message that the Mayor should do nothing and allow the Alcohol Cost Recovery Fee to become law.
