OMG, HAMILTON Returns to San Francisco in Early 2019 – Get Your Tickets Soon!

Tuesday, August 1st, 2017

‘Cause they’ll be hard to get, as they are these days for the 2017 tour, of course.

(What my buds did was to join SHN for one season for the sole purpose of getting some Ham ticks. That paid off very nicely for them and they were all quite proud of themselves.)

Take it away SHN:

“HAMILTON RETURNS TO SAN FRANCISCO IN EARLY 2019

Producer Jeffrey Seller announced today that HAMILTON will return to San Francisco in early 2019. Information regarding engagement dates and how to purchase tickets will be announced at a later time. The first national tour of HAMILTON opened in San Francisco on March 10, 2017 and moves to Los Angeles following the final performance in San Francisco, Saturday, August 5th. Performances begin at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles on Friday, August 11th.

“I was blown away when the ticket-holders who had gathered outside the SHN Orpheum Theatre prior to the first preview cheered and cheered when the doors opened and they could finally take their seats. Hamilton at the Orpheum Theatre is gorgeous, powerful and kinetic,” says Jeffrey Seller. “We look forward to returning and staying for a long time in early 2019.”

A second national tour will begin in Seattle in February 2018. The musical first opened on Broadway in 2015; a Chicago company opened in September 2016; and the London company premieres November 2017.

Once complete details are confirmed, SHN members will be first in line for tickets. For details on becoming an SHN Member, click here.

Falun Gong Show: What You Need to Know About “SHEN YUN Dec 31 – Jan 8,” Playing at Our War Memorial Opera House

Thursday, December 22nd, 2016

Well let’s see. There’s this:

The Falun Gong Show: SFist Goes To The NTDTV Chinese New Year

(I think it’s the 10th anniversary of this piece of service journalism, back when blogs were big.)

And there’s the Yelp entry.

Oh, a red, white, and green theme this year – how Christmassy!

7j7c5100-copy

And oh yeah, the government of the Unitary Communist State known as the People’s Republic of China just hates this show, so you can find a few “facts” from the propaganda arm of the PRC on the web, pretty high up in Google searches, as well.

IMO, one should be able to know a bit about this show afore seeing it, that’s all…

How the Falun Gong Defeated Google – The Shen Yun 2013 “Extravaganza” Plays San Francisco’s Orpheum Theatre

Thursday, March 21st, 2013

All right, let’s say you’ve heard about the big Shen Yun 2013 show at our Orpheum Theatre and you want to find out a little about it, m’kay?

So you type into Google and this what you get:

What you won’t get is something like this:

The Falun Gong Show

Or Yelp reviews neither, like these:

The Yelp

And you certainly won’t find the official Chinese Communist Party (“Socialism, with Chinese Characteristics!”) website on Shen Yun all that easily, oh no:

Cult Studies [Uh, FYI, CCP, your agitprop website looks a little crude, like it’s from your little buddy North Korea, just saying.]

So I guess the lesson to be learned is that if a small group of people wants to game Google so that you’ll buy tickets to this show without knowing, in a general way, what it’s about first, then they can.

Things I now know:

SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE;

THE BOLD ITALIC IS GANNETT COMPANY, INCORPORATED; and

SHEN YUN 2013 IS FALUN GONG

That’s something to consider when you’re getting the hard sell at San Francisco Costco #144, as seen last week on 10th  Street:

Just saying,…

GOOD VS. EVIL:
An Evening with Anthony Bourdain & Eric Ripert
LIVE at the SHN Orpheum Theatre FRIDAY, APRIL 12

 https://www.shnsf.com/online/bourdain

SAN FRANCISCO (November 13) – Two chefs. Two unlikely friends. Two very different careers and philosophies sharing one stage.

Join Anthony Bourdain and his good friend, Eric Ripert – internationally renowned chefs, authors, and television personalities – as they share stories and muse on the place of food in our personal, community, and global life. Their Good vs. Evil tour will visit San Francisco for one night only, 8PM – Friday, April 12th at the SHN Orpheum Theatre. This engaging evening of storytelling and observation, providing frank and provocative insight into what really goes on behind kitchen doors, will delight and intrigue.

Anthony Bourdain, chef-at-large at New York’s famed Brasserie Les Halles, is the author of bestselling titles Kitchen Confidential and Medium Raw – both hilariously blunt portraits of life in restaurant kitchens. His latest project Get Jiro!, a culinary-themed graphic novel, was released on July 3 and quickly reached the #1 spot on the New York Times bestseller list. In addition to hosting Travel Channel’s Emmy Award-winning No Reservations and The Layover, Bourdain will serve as host for two new television shows premiering in 2013: The Taste, a cooking competition series for ABC, and a docu-series for CNN, expanding the network’s coverage of travel, culture and cuisine.

Eric Ripert is the chef and co-owner of New York’s famed Le Bernardin, which continues to receive universal critical acclaim, including three stars from the Michelin Guide, an unprecedented “29” food rating from the Zagat Guide for the past three years, and consistent four-star reviews from the New York Times for over two decades. He has also served as guest judge and “fan favorite” on Bravo’s Top Chef for several seasons. Ripert is the author of four cookbooks, including 2010’s Avec Eric (based on his popular PBS program of the same name), On the Line, A Return to Cooking, and the Le Bernardin Cookbook.

OMG, Les Miserables Debuts, Once Again, at the Orpheum Theatre – Standing Ovations – A Really Big Show

Thursday, July 12th, 2012

The debut of the 25th Anniversary production of Boublil & Schönberg’s LES MISÉRABLES was a huge success at our Orpheum Theatre last night.

Man, this show is big.

(So, as I said yesterday, get your tickets at SHN now – they’re not getting any cheaper and this musical leaves us on August 26th, 2012.)

Now here’s Emily L’s review from the Orchestra Section’s Row U:

“Extraordinary musical! Les Miz is a beautiful story of a man’s life struggles, portraying bourgeois issues such as poverty, child abuse, prostitution and other political corruption in 1800 France. I was instantly enthralled from the very first scene of the show. This cast is amazing and captivating in every way. The voices went with each characters’ every movement and the visual sets were stunning. The orchestra seating was a special treat as the sound resonated throughout, spot on with the actors. In 2 hours, Les Miz will bring out smiles, pains, laughs, cries, ‘aww’s, and cheers – it’s a roller coaster ride definitely worth riding at least once!”

So there you have it.

Les Miz reminds me of that other famous, long-running show, Phantom of the Opera, in a way. But guess who says Les Miz is “far superior?” It’s Steven Winn of the San Francisco Chronicle:

Vive ‘Les Miz’: Pop opera returns to S.F.”

Now let’s hear from Food Fashionista Mika Takeuchi, who also caught yesterday’s debut:

“Les Misérables @shnSF. Entire cast deserved standing ovation, but WOW -Javert @AndrewVarela525 & Jean Valjean @Peter_Lockyer – mesmerizing!”

And here’s Diane Dwyer of NBC Bay Area:

“Just saw #lesmiserables‬ @shnsf at the Orpheum – perfection – standing ovation .. Highly recommend it!”

All right, see you there!

“Cameron Mackintosh presents a brand new 25th anniversary production of Boublil & Schönberg’s legendary musical, LES MISÉRABLES, with glorious new staging and dazzlingly reimagined scenery inspired by the paintings of Victor Hugo. This new production has been acclaimed by critics, fans and new audiences and is breaking box office records wherever it goes.

Based on Victor Hugo’s classic novel, LES MISÉRABLES is an epic and uplifting story about the survival of the human spirit. The magnificent score of LES MISÉRABLES includes the classic songs “I Dreamed a Dream,” “On My Own,” “Stars,” “Bring Him Home,” “Do You Hear the People Sing?,” “One Day More,” “Empty Chairs at Empty Tables,” “Master Of The House” and many more.
