As this driver just did, loaded up with household goods for a trip back up north to Oregon or Washington or whichever state is named on the license plate.

What drivers do is get stuck on Market outbound and then they see the No Left signs one after the other, 2nd, New Monty, 3rd, 4th, 5th and then they get frustrated and make a left on 6th Street, as here.
And when you make that kind of move, the cops can see you from all around.
(What we should have are signs saying No Left Turns Next 2 Miles, or something, like what we have on 19th Avenue, an official State Highway.)
Of course, if the driver were on Market heading inbound at this very same intersection, then a right turn would be mandatory and going straight just might get her a ticket as well. The thing about that, tho, is that the chances of getting a ticket for not turning right is way less than 1% but, well, making a left you are just begging for a ticket.
(Which you can just throw away once you get back to home state, if you want, IDK.)
Of course some people don’t need to pay the DMV thousands and thousands of dollars in registration and “ad volerum” use tax and smog certification and they don’t need to pay the SFMTA any parking ticket fines (up to a point, be careful tho) because they’re exempted. Why? I don’t know, stuff like active military service – I think that’ll work.
(So maybe it’s General “Stormin’ Norman” Schwartzkopf inside this black SUV heading to the Financh during the morning drive, day after day, week after week, month after month, who knows.)
But the other 99% of us need to would need to worry that some busybody will hop on the Internet and find the CHP CHEATERS website.
Uh oh.
Report Vehicles with Out-of-State License Plates to the CHPDid you know that the State of California loses millions of dollars a year in revenue from California residents who unlawfully register their vehicles in other states or countries?
Did you know that vehicle registration fees are due immediately upon accepting employment or establishing residency in the State of California?
Did you know that California law permits only 20 days to complete the process of registering your vehicle without paying a penalty?
The three most common reasons for not completing the registration process are:
People are unaware of California registration laws.
People are evading payments of registration fees and taxes.
People are unable to comply with air pollution control laws.
Include the following information:
State or province in which vehicle is registered
Vehicle license number
Date and time the vehicle was observed
Make, model and color of the vehicle
Location where the vehicle was observed (street(s) and city)
Any additional comments and descriptive information

NMA-TV out of Taiwan, Free Republic of China, well, they’ve got us pegged. They know all about what goes on in California and they show that with pithy animated videos.
And here’s Jeff Bezos (fresh from swimming in a pool of his money) explaining things to California Governor Jerry Brown and our Official State Animal, who looks hungry for a little tax money.
It’s going to be a tough row to hoe getting people to vote for the Amazon tax next year, IMO.
Anyway, good job NMA-TV.
*The tax is on your “use” in CA of whatever you buy. It’s pretty much like a sales tax except it’s based on the tax rate of where you live (as opposed to sales tax, which is based upon where you buy something).
