It’ll Cost You $200 Minimum to See the Outside Lands Music Festival, Or You Can Sneak In – Here’s How

Tuesday, August 9th, 2011

All right, at this late date the only way you ticketless souls are going to get into the somewhat mismanaged Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival is to fork over $185 (plus TicketMonster fees) minimum OR to try to sneak in.

Now lots of people have a friend on the inside, so those peeps can just walk through the gates, but you, well, you’re going to have to deal with that eight-foot cyclone fencing.

You’re going to have to go under, over, or through the wire.

Here’s UNDER. See how that works? Easy peasy.

Well there’s the problem: No bottom tension wire on the chain link fence + Line posts too far apart = Jailbreak:

And here’s OVER. This here is called the bum rush:

See how that works right here. Oh, and later in the video, you can see one version of THROUGH.

Remember, this is one of those victimless crimes. (Its like punching someone in the dark.)

But if you feel guilty for not paying your fair share, well then you can throw a five-spot into a Recreation and Park donation box sometime – they have them at Strybing Arboretum, for example.

All right, be warned that the 2008 OL was The Best Ever. Remember picking up those nine Euros stranded by MUNI on McAllister and taking them along for the ride on your way home in the Land Cruiser? Good times. Oh, wait a sec, that’s my memory. But remember Radiohead and the sound system trouble? Oh, you weren’t there? Well that was The Best Ever. Nothing can compare with 2008.

Anyway, maybe the Outside Lands should be free for those 21 and younger, something like that?

Here’s the lineup for 2011:

World Series Update: Watch Games Three and Four Outdoors with Gavin Newsom, But Leave Your Beer at Home

Wednesday, October 27th, 2010

[UPDATE: Word on the street is that this isn't going to happen after all....]

Erin Sherbet has the deets on the coming Jumbotron-style showings of games 3 and 4 outside in the rain this weekend. But please remember:

This is not a party zone,” said Newsom spokesman Tony Winnicker. “It’s a place for families and true baseball fans who want to cheer Giants on — there are lots of other places to party and buy pitchers of beer.”

Harsh. “True baseball fans” don’t drink beer, apparently.

Here’s true fan Homer Simpson enjoying a game without beer for the first time in his life. Now, are your shields up? Good, start at 17:30, Komrad

“I never realized how boring this game is”

Go Giants!

Conflict Betwixt Skaters and Skateboarders in Golden Gate Park – The “Green Line” of the “Skatin’ Place” at 6th Ave.

Friday, October 15th, 2010

I’ll tell you, I never before noticed this painted oval at our relatively new “Skating Place” in Golden Gate Park near 6th And Fulton.

It’s the Green Line of Golden Gate Park ’cause it divides the skaters from the skateboarders, apparently.

See?

Here’s a veteran skater laying down the law to a couple of Sk8tr Boies with skateboards. Boarders should stay inside the line and skaters (both inline and regular) should stay out.

Or something like that.

OTOH, if Heather Graham ever comes back to town, she can skate wherever she wants, right?

Rollergirl as Bond Girl. Gold! I love goooooold!

Anyway…

Can’t we all get along?

Thousands of Disappointed U.S. Soccer Fans Turned Away from Civic Center

Saturday, June 26th, 2010

I don’t know, I think they could have figured out a way to have Pride Weekend and the World Cup at the same place at the same time this A.M.

Or, in other words:

How the hell is there no large venue showing this match?”

They were still setting up this stage when the action started in South Africa:

Fans forced indoors tried to make the best of it, craning their necks as if they were in the front row of a Metreon movie theatre:

(Of course, batting practice precluded AT&T Park’s JumboTron from showing the contest.)

Fans arriving at Civic Center this morning were told to go to “some bar” to catch the match. One fan announced that he was “mega-bummed.”

Oh well…
