Sky-View Tour, Western Addition, USA

Friday, November 9th, 2012

Little squirt looks a bit bored back there, but most of these tourists seem to enjoy taking the 2-hour Sky View Tour of San Francisco.

Now, do these tour buses really make Alamo Square “the Wild West?” No, not at all. So, why did former Interim Supervisor Christina Olague say such a thing?

Well, because she was running for election and she didn’t want to piss-off the hyper-sensitive homeowners of the Western Addition.

Did that work?

Non.

Oh, and are the diesel engines much louder than any loudspeakers that non-tourists might hear?

Oui.

So, here they come, day after day:

Do you hate tourists?

I don’t.

MUNI #5 Fulton Driver Tells Man to “Man Up” – Yelling at Passengers Instead of Picking Them Up

Wednesday, August 1st, 2012

Actually, the driver told the (potential) passenger waiting at the stop near Gough to, “Be a Man!” You know, as he drove away.

Yelling over the P.A. system that the bus had. (MUNI buses have P.A. systems? Did not know that.)

Anyway, here’s the driver, yacking away…

And here’s the passenger left in the lurch, staring down McAllister for the next bus:

PG&E, San Francisco National Laughingstocks – Wouldn’t It Be Nice to Have a Normal Gas and Electric Utility?

Tuesday, December 20th, 2011

I don’t know, PG&E. Don’t you know by now that you’re a loser organization?

So how does it help to have your spokesmodels Blame the Customer First?

Right now, we’re actively investigating the cause,” PG&E spokesperson John King said shortly after the outage. “It could be a number of things, from customer-owned equipment to PG&E equipment…”

Oh, I know. The answer is that it doesn’t help.

It doesn’t help at all.

Brownie, you’re doing a heck of a job:

PG&E and the City and County of San Francisco Investigate Power Outages at Candlestick Park

SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 19, 2011 — Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) issued the following statement from Geisha Williams, executive vice president of electric operations, about the power outages that impacted Candlestick Park this evening:

PG&E is working closely with the City and County of San Francisco, owner and operator of Candlestick Park, to determine the cause of tonight’s power outages. The first priority for both PG&E and the City and County has been to get the power restored as quickly and safely as possible and keep the power on through the rest of the game. Determining exactly what happened and working to prevent something like this from happening again is very important to everyone involved.

And from SFGov:

“MAYOR LEE’S STATEMENT ON POWER OUTAGES AT CANDLESTICK PARK

Mayor Edwin M. Lee today issued the following statement on the electric power outages at Candlestick Park at tonight’s San Francisco 49ers vs. Pittsburgh Steelers Monday Night Football game:

“Following the loss of electric power to Candlestick Park before kickoff this evening, I directed our Police, Fire and Recreation & Park Departments and our Public Utilities Commission to work closely with the 49ers and PG&E to ensure that maintaining public safety and restoring power to the stadium were the top priorities. City staff worked immediately to deliver backup power and support PG&E staff in their repairs.

I have directed Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White and SFPUC General Manager Ed Harrington to conduct a full investigation into the cause of both outages and, with PG&E, identify immediate actions that must be taken to prevent incidents such as this from happening again.

Tonight we all share in tremendous pride for our San Francisco 49ers. We must make every effort to support continued victories for the team and fans across the Bay Area in the weeks ahead.”

And from Mayor Ed Lee on September 1, 2011, during the one-year anniversary of PG&E’s incompetance killing eight people in San Bruno:

“They’re a great company that gets it.”

A New Delight From Banksy: Two-Building Rat Graffito in Haight Ashbury

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

Or, I don’t know, maybe it’s another example of a Bunksy around town these days. (Doesn’t really matter that much unless the buildings’ owners want to cut it out and auction it off. Irregardless, it’s effective viral marketing* from Cinetic Media / Abramorama / Paranoid Pictures LLC for Exit Through the Gift Shop: A Banksy Film in’nt?) Moving on…

Via  SFist and the Uptown Almanac** comes news of fresh tag in the Upper Haight.

You can see all the new ads on somebody’s SF Banksy Tour, Sunday, April 24th. (Don’t rely on the addresses, WharholianPics has better descriptions of the various locations, apparently)

“Ok this might be a tad cheesy but I’m excited to tour the city Sunday and check out the new works of Banksy.

* Here’s a good question:

“…do we really need significant P&A [Print & Advertising] when so much of what Banksy does is viral?”

No sir, no you do not. But check this bon mot, from 2008:

“The easiest way to not go viral is to try going viral.”

Appears as if they’re trying pretty damn hard in 2010.

**Is Scott Beale of Laughing Squid really a “fool” and/or a “lazy fuck?” Decidedly not. So it’s difficult trying to make sense of the following:

“… Laughing Squid needs me to do some research so that lazy fuck can just rip off this blog without credit.  Again.  Even anonymous dumbasses on ezboards.com are better at giving us hat tips than that fool.”

Must be an inside joke or something.

Attention Bay Area Pilots: Don’t Get Too Creative with Your Airplane’s “N” Number

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Here’s what you can’t do with your aircraft’s tail number. What you can’t do is get all creative to the point where people can’t read it.

‘Cause when you go flat-hatting over San Francisco’s Ferry Building in your aging Piper PA-34-200T Seneca II, you need to have your license plate legible for tout le monde to see. That’s how the system works.

What you can’t do is take away the middle part of the ID numbers leaving all the 0′s, 3′s, 6′s, and 8′s looking alike. That don’t fly.

The turbocharged Piper Seneca II, for the times when your Saratoga can’t get you there fast enough:

Click to expand, not that it will help legibility.

Anyway, people need to know who pilots are for the times they land on the wrong end of the runway ‘n stuff.

I don’t know, maybe you can score some cheaper ticks by using your AmEx card or going to the box office or something.

See you there!
