Another Run for SFFD Engine #21: The Aftermath of a Routine Bicycle Accident in the Golden Gate Park Panhandle

Friday, February 19th, 2016

I guess this is one of my issues, the width of the Fell Street bike path – I think it’s too narrow. It’s being used a lot more now than back when it was widened from 8 feet to 12 feet, IMO.

Anyway, this kind of thing happens all the time and it always seems to be E21 that turns up to haul people (and their bikes – it comes with you at no extra charge on your already quite hefty bill) away.

(Hey, who would get better medical attention after an accident – Princess Diana back in the 1990’s or a homeless person of the 94117 in 2016? It’s not even close.)

Don’t know why.

You know, San Francisco is the most corrupt large city west of Chicago, probably, but you wouldn’t know it by solely looking at paramedic response in the 415. I’ve never seen dysfunction from this part of the “City Family.”

Shoplifter at the Union Square Apple Store – A Sidewalk Scrum for iPhone – Bad Security Guards on Video

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

I don’t know how long you’ll be able to watch this one – all the action is in the first part and then it just goes on and on. (“Aagh, I can’t breathe!” “Get off of him!” “Aagh, I can’t breathe!” “Get off of him!”)

Not sure if the shoplifter had an actual iPhone. Seems as if he had, at the very least, some kind product endorsed by Dr. Dre, anyway:

Beats Studio by Dr. Dre – Hi-Def Noise-Canceling Over-Ear Headphones

And, indeed, those can retail for up to $350, so one of the security guards got that part right. As far as everything else though, there’s just too much to inventory – this is like a video on how not to detain a shoplifter. (Should you let go of the perp temporarily to show off the booty to sway the crowd? Probably not. I could go on, but, as always, You Make The Call.)

It ended up requiring the attention of both the SFPD and the SFFD. (I wonder if there’s an official report or two on this incident.)

Anyway, I’m surprised this one didn’t go viral:

Sunset Scavenger vs. Fixie Bike Rider at Golden Gate and Polk

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

Here’s the scene this morning at around 7:00 AM at the intersection of Polk and Golden Gate in the Civic Center/Tendeloin/Polk Gulch area near City Hall – the aftermath of a collision between a Sunset Golden Gate Debris Box transporter and a green, braked-equipped Masi single-speed bike rider. The cyclist had a helmet and her bike light was still flashing.

It’s hard to say who was at fault at this point. This is one of the “routine” accidents” we have in the City that you don’t hear about unless somebody dies. Are bike accidents increasing in San Francisco? Seems that way.

San Francisco Fire Department Wharf Rats on the job:

Here’s wishing a speedy recovery for the cyclist.
