Here’s why:
Seule Paris est digne de Rome; seule Rome est digne de Paris.
Solo Parigi è degna di Roma; solo Roma è degna di Parigi.
Only Paris is worthy of Rome; only Rome is worthy of Paris.
That means that Paris has been “twinned” with Rome in an exclusive sister-city relationship. It’s an “elaborate cultural partnership,” as they say.
So does that mean that Mayor Ed Lie will be lying once again today?
Yep, pretty much.
But you’ve got to realize that things are more or less on autopilot at City Hall these days, so it’s not really his volition.
(And if Willie Brown could get away with something, then Ed Lee should be able to as well, else it’s racist or something.)
Now, here’s what we really have with the City of Light. We have one of these things:
“Les pactes d’amitié et de coopération signés par la Ville de Paris“
Which in American is “pacts of friendship and cooperation signed by the City of Paris.”
Which, IRL, is rien de bien grave (no biggee). See Below.
IMO, we should be like Dubai, which ID’s itself as a Partner City with Paris.
All right, TTFN. But remember, We’ll Always Never Have Paris.
IRL, Paris, France is friends with just about everybody. The list of partner cities:

And in other news, George P. Shultz was a Nixon and Reagan appointee, not a Carter appointee. (You’d be amazed how many people think (or say) he’s a Carter appointee.)
Anywho, ever more deets, including a visit to Le Twitter HQ in the corrupt Twitterloin:
“From September 25 to 28, the mayor of Paris, Bertrand Delanoë, is visiting San Francisco to strengthen ties and cooperation between the two cities.
The mayor of Paris has a full agenda for his stay in California. After a welcome reception at the Consulate of France in San Francisco, he visited two companies Parisoma and Twitter. 27 in the morning, he will go to Parisoma a common workspace, exchange and support for entrepreneurs. Created by the French Stéphane Distinguin, Parisoma accompanied nearly 300 start-up since its inception in 2007.
Bertrand Delanoë must also discover the new headquarters of Twitter in the SoMa district, the famous social network of micro-blogging, along with its CEO Jack Dorsey. With New York, Paris is the city with the most subscribers to his Twitter account, and this year the City of Light became the first in the world to exhibit his tweets in the public space, the place Châtelet.
Paris delegation has always aimed to encourage more trade with San Francisco, mainly on economic and technological. Several meetings with the mayor of this city, Edwin Lee, are well planned and Bertrand Delanoë is expected to sign a memorandum with him, in line with those of 2006 and 2009 to facilitate cooperation. This will be an opportunity to discuss joint projects twinned towns and to consider connections between the research teams.”

It looks like this:

Quite a lot of stuff going on in that shot, huh?
I hadn’t seen the place since it opened up in March 2012.
This is what things look like back then:
The thing about Lucky Strike at 200 King near 4th Street is that’s it’s not like any bowling alley you’ve ever seen. Call it a “gastropub-ish funhouse” or an “upscale bowling lounge” instead.
Get the deets here and now let’s take a look.
Exterior at 200 King:

L.S. on the left, AT&T Park on the right, kitty-corner:

And the CalTrain station is to the right as you look outward:

Here’s the main bar and restaurant seating area. The idea of the communal tables on the left is to have them at Goldilocks height, not too low and not too high, to allow mixing and conversation betwixt those sitting and those standing.

OMG, this place is bigger than I thought it would be.

Moving on to the Einstein Room, with billiards and other diversions to entertain your brain:

But lets go further in, let’s go bowling:

Shoes shoes shoes!

On the way to the lanes:

I don’t know what this is:

Here we go, here are some of the lanes:

The main bowling area will have art all around, made by innumerable local artists. Here are some Obey Giants from Shepard Fairey, who used to be local.

Moving on past the Lebowski Wall(!) to…

…the Green Room, your own private party space with your own private lanes! OMG.

Can you imagine what kind of large, rich, youthful companies have already made reservations to rent out the Green Room and portions of the main bar area? Oh yes you can, give a guess and you’ll be correct. Anyway, here are the special Green Room lanes, one of which is named in honor of Brian Wilson, a part-owner.

In short, Lucky Strike is going to be awesome.
See you Friday!

Here’s the news:
“Lucky Strike San Francisco Announces Brian Wilson as New Partner”
“SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 29, 2012 – Lucky Strike, the gastro pub-ish Fun House about to open on King Street across from AT&T Park is proud to announce that Brian Wilson, gifted closer for the Giants, has joined Lucky Strike San Francisco as a partner/owner. Steven Foster, founder and CEO couldn’t be more thrilled. “Of all the well known folks from the professional sports and entertainment world that have helped popularize Lucky Strike, there isn’t anyone that I would rather have as a partner than Brian. He is a singular force – a unique combination of excellence – as an athlete, as a person and as an appreciator and lover of life. As all his fans know he is fearless, in the moment, inventive and community oriented. It’s how Lucky Strike aspires to roll on every level. “
Reaching the closer at spring training as he readies for the season, Brian echoed these sentiments. “I am amped to be on board with Lucky Strike. The concept – from the ambiance to the food to the energy – is edgy, crafty and unique. I am pumped to be in the Lucky Strike mix and am honored that lane 12 will be renamed lane 38. I love that number, and I expect to roll many massive strikes on that lane. See you there. The Dude abides.”
“The Dude abides.” I don’t know about you but I take comfort in that. It’s good knowin’ he’s out there. The Dude. Takin’ ‘er easy for all us sinners.
Shoosh. I sure hope he makes the finals.

[What, exactly, makes dreamy Ashton Kutcher "tech-savvy," anyway?]
Ouch. Airbnb (formerly Air Bed & Breakfast or something) is a San Francisco company associated with a famous incident what just happened to a San Francisco woman, so a Taiwan television outfit has seen fit to, once again, make a mockery of the 415.
Like this.
See? Airbnb is supposed to be better than craigslist if you want to rent out your apartment to a stranger for a few days and I suppose in some cases it is better than using CL.
Anyway, this is NMA-TV’s impression of craigslist:

And here’s the story, per NMA-TV:
“Airbnb guests trash, burglarize apartment.
Web start-up Airbnb has benefited from the recent tech boom.It just raised $112 million US dollars from investors. It is now valued at $1 billion.
Although Craigslist allows those wishing to rent out their homes to travelers,it has a sketchy reputation. Airbnb is user friendly with a shiny interface.
However, a San Francisco woman recently rented out her apartment through Airbnb. She left her keys for her guests before going on a trip.
The guests ransacked her apartment, stole her stuff and left a huge mess. It took the woman 14 hours to get through to an Airbnb employee.”
And here’s the whole story from EJ, the San Francisco woman who rented out her apartment to the wrong people.
I don’t know how Airbnb can fix this kind of situation…
