Florida Man Takes Frisco by Storm: Meet Erick Brown & “Deer,” His Pygmy Goat – They’re All Over Town These Days

Wednesday, October 7th, 2015

Hey look, it’s Erick “Rockclub” Brown and his goat named Deer, straight outta the Florida Panhandle.

Here they are in the Sunset last month and, via lovely Andria Borba of KPIX 5 CBS, in The City Part Of Town just yesterday, and (literally) on Fell Street a couple days back:

All the deets:

Erick Brown talks about Deer his goat

Man reunited with pet goat

And you know People Magazine? Well they have a Pets Section now. It’s called “PeoplePets.” Srsly:

All right, let’s bid adieu, as Erick and Deer strut through a four-on-four pickup blacktop game in our Panhandle:

Take a look at the ballers – click to expand if necessary. They all have the same HEY-BRO-GET-OFF-THE-COURT-WHOA-A-GOAT EXPRESSION, IMO.

Bon courage, Erick

Bon courage, Deer

READER NOTES: Are you aware of the Growing Urban Goat Movement? Check it:

Sarah Hawkins breeds and sells a specific variety of miniature goats. “The Nigerian Dwarf can be for pets and for milk,” says Hawkins, “and for eating weeds – they’ll eat yellow star thistle.” Hawkins owns Castle Rock Farm in Vacaville. Most of her customers live in San Francisco, Berkeley and Oakland where it’s legal to keep goats in backyards.

And hey, you know who loves urban goats? SFGov, that’s who. Read up our even-toed ungulate laws here:

Regulations on the Keeping of Goats and Other Hoofed Animals by the San Francisco Department of Public Health

“Keeping two or less female goats on private property is legally allowed in San Francisco for the exclusive use of the owner’s family. Keeping more than two female goats or any number of male goats and other hoofed animals (e.g. Horse, mare, gelding, mule, burro, sheep, cow, etc) requires appropriate approval and stable permit according to the San Francisco Health Code. Goats can also be temporarily allowed on public projects for weed clearing and fire hazard abatement activities by special permit with the agency landowner.”

Marina District Pet Store Update: Is This a Hated Chain Store Like Pet Food Express or a Beloved Local Store?

Tuesday, May 19th, 2015

I can’t tell, and that’s sort of my point…

One wonders about all this stress and strife

(One wants [or SHOULD want to, anyway] to live the sporting life)

Leaving you with this

“It doesn’t matter whether a cat [PET FOOD STORE] is white [LOCAL] or black [A CHAIN], as long as it catches mice.”

Iconic Sign Design: “BAY AREA BIRD HOSPITAL” on Taraval – Surely a Future Museum Piece

Thursday, December 4th, 2014

A bit of color in the cold, foggy Parkside District:

(They have another sign that shows a giant parrot / parakeet atop the Golden Gate Bridge, but it’s less iconic ‘n stuff.)

I don’t know how old these signs are, but they probably precede the era of escaped pet parrots going feral and flying about The Avenues in huge flocks. Check it, the Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill are now all over the place, like here, in the cold, foggy Sunset District, around Noriega, just a few blocks north of the cold, foggy Parkside:

They might look like hated pigeons from a distance, but their loud squawking gives them away every time. It’s still amazing to me to see these birds flying about the 415:

Opening of San Francisco’s Classiest New Steakhouse, the Penthouse Club, Covered by Our Classiest News Station, KRON-TV

Friday, March 16th, 2012

I think that’s Vicki Liviakis* doing a stand-up** in front of the VIP line last night at the Grand Opening of our brand-new San Francisco PENTHOUSE CLUB & Steakhouse.

Looked like kind of a sausage-fest, actually:

But, oh, the reviews are in, already. Let’s hear from from the “Yelp Elite” cognoscente:

“My boyfriend got the 28-day dry aged bone-in ribeye with chimichurri sauce and I got the grass fed filet mignon with shallot confit and sauce Diane. We were both getting full at this point, but not full enough to not devour both of these beef dishes. The chimichurri sauce was the best we have ever had and really enhanced the juicy ribeye. My filet mignon was tasty and rich and the shallot confit added a nice sweet touch to the dish. We had the Jordan Cab with the meat dishes.

“This was one of the best food experiences I have had in a long time! Every single dish was eaten in its entirety and the bits were scraped off the plate with our forks. I would have licked the plate had I been at home. Executive Chef Mike Ellis has created an amazing and versatile menu that is guaranteed to please anyone’s palate.”

O.K. then.

Bon Courage, San Francisco PENTHOUSE CLUB & Steakhouse!

*At first, I thought she might have been the talent, you know, coming out of the limo. (That’s a compliment, I suppose…)

**I can’t recall ever seeing a real live person holding a KRON 4*** video camera, cause, you know, usually a tripod does the job. That’s the “VJ” concept.

***If I were in charge of KRON, I’d apply to the FCC to change the name to KORN**** and then I’d beg NBC for an affiliate contract, you know, so it’d be like the old days. That would improve ratings 150% overnight, I’d wager.

****And actually, it would have a Cyrillic R, you know, like this: KoЯn-TV

Of What Use is the San Francisco Small Business Commission (SBC)? Should We Have a Large Business Commish As Well?

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

I don’t know, you think the Small Business Commission would approve the shut-down of Costco and Safeway and Lucky and all the others for the simple reason that they aren’t small businesses? Mmmm….

Anyway, our Small Biz Commish just voted in favor of small bizzes, in a way.

Here’s the beauty part:

“I don’t think that we are going to turn this down because we are afraid that it’s not legal.”

All right, well, anyway, it’s close to being not legal with the way things are now, just saying, SBC.

Suffer the non-small businesses of the world:

Where’s their business commission?

Video: Bill O’Reilly Offers to Run for Mayor of San Francisco on a Ticket with Jeff Adachi

Saturday, July 10th, 2010

This video speaks for itself. (Not sure that San Francisco has an office entitled “Vice-Mayor,” but realize that this whole deal is coming from the same guy who avoids the Safest Neighborhood in San Francisco due to concerns over personal safety. Also, Bill claims he’s visited San Francisco “hundreds of times.” I’ll bet you a loofah he’s exaggerating a skosh.)

Bonus: Take a look and see if San Francisco Public Defender Jeff Adachi is in favor of prosecuting people who try to buy hamsters or Coca Colas.

Will Jeff Adachi be the Mayor of San Francisco come January 2012?

Mmmmm….
