Hey AVA Building on 9th Street! Meet Your Neighbors: “HOTEL PHILLIPS – ROOMS AVAILABLE – DAILY AND WEEKLY RATES”

Wednesday, March 12th, 2014

Ian S goes longform:

This is the worst “hotel” that I’ve ever seen. Humanity has reached new lows here. As you walk down the halls, you see drunk / high people tumbling out of their rooms, reaching in every direction, screaming, and doing hard drugs in plane site. The sounds in this hotel are hellish — think Abu Ghraib — as you pass through, it sounds like people are being raped in every room — with screams/pleas for help coming from every direction — there are also children crying, dogs barking, yelling, and very loud music at all times of the day/night. Some guests were very violent; one huge/intimidating guy starting yelling at me — and I honestly feared for my physical well being.  People walk their dogs throughout the interior, and I even saw a dog urinating on the hallway carpet. There are dead cockroaches everywhere. Bathrooms are communal. The rooms and hallways smell like a bizarre mixture of hard drugs and chemicals.

No one in their right might should stay here, and no right-minded person does.  As for the homeless and insane: I suggest you try a park or the sidewalk. This is an horrifyingly dreadful place — like the worst parts of ‘Requiem for a Dream’ or ‘The Wire’.

Peak Oil Update: The ConocoPhillips 76 Station at 1st and Harrison Plans on Selling Gasoline Until 2050 at Least

Friday, July 22nd, 2011

(I vividly remember the first time I spent $20 on a tank of gas – it was with an Audi 5000 in Honolulu, way back in the 90′s. But I only vaguely recall my first $100 tankful – it was with Mom’s Taxi in Napa someplace a few years back. [GRANDPA SIMPSON MODE=OFF])

So there I was putting $94 worth of 87 octane (NBP – Never Buy Premium*) into Mom’s Taxi (straight outta Toyota City) and here’s what I saw:

Are we going to even have gas stations in 2050 and beyond? I don’t know, probably.

But the Peak Oil crowd will not like seeing this.

Not at all.

*Oh, your car “needs” premium? No it doesn’t.**

**Oh, you have an Audi? Well, you only think it needs premium. It doesn’t, IRL. Actually, you and your ride, IRL, you’re not that special.***

***Oh, you have a 1968 Porsche 912 what pings on regular? BINGO! You, sir or ma’am, you need premium. But nobody else.

Sunday Streets in the Mission District to Feature New RollerSoccer Sport

Friday, June 5th, 2009

You know all about rollersoccer, right? It’s not listed in the English language Wikipedia but the French one says it’s ”un sport hybride qui consiste à jouer au football sur des rollers.” And it was created by a local - see?

“Ce sport est né dans les années 1990 à San Francisco aux États-Unis, crée par Zack Phillips.”

This Sunday, June 7 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Capp and 24th Street, you’ll be able to see a demonstration of this new sport. It’s all a part of Sunday Streets in the Mission District.

Here’s Zacharias “ZackDaddy” Phillips dribbling his way down the Embarcadero at the Northern Waterfront  Sunday Streets in April, with lovable sidekick R2D2 beeping away:
