Our U.S. Military Conducts Exercises in Plain View at Ocean Beach – Coast Guard Rescue Boats Practice Practice Practice

Tuesday, April 1st, 2014

Thusly:

Hey, you know who doesn’t train for this type of water rescue? The SFPD, which is sort of funny because they have the exact same kind of aluminum-hulled rescue boat, Marine One or whatever they call it.

Am I saying that the SFPD Marine Unit should try to replicate our Coast Guard and practice alongside the Coasties? No.

But I am saying that it’s absurd that the SFPD operates a heavy surf rescue vessel. We should give it to the government of the Philippines or something like that.

IMO.

Maybe this is the Patriots Jet Team. Maybe this had something to do with San Francisco’s failed and corrupt America’s Cup “World Series.”

Horrible North Beach NIMBY Richard Silver Makes Galileo High School Girls Drill Team Cry at Joe DiMaggio Playground

Thursday, April 5th, 2012

North Beach News has the deets on this police call in North Beach from the other day.

We had multiple reports yesterday of an incident at DiMaggio that led to some of the ROTC kids crying on the playground. Checking with Captain Tacchini at Central Station, he tells us “The incident involved a neighbor who was complaining about the apparent noise being caused by a group of young girls participating in ROTC practice in the park. The neighbor was aggressive and intimidating and causing fear and disruption to the girls’ practice session. Officers responded to calm the situation and make sure nobody was in harm’s way.”

OK then.

You’ve heard of NIMBYs? Well this is what one of them looks like, just as you’d expect, with a beret and everything:

How loud is too loud? Take a listen to get an idea of what the drill team does.

More deets:

“Today, our regular threatening neighbor (the man with the glasses) charged at one of the teams and demanded our personal information and even tried to take a picture. After a series of arguments and trying to get through to the man, the police got involved. A local…I guess…volunteer? who uses the grounds saw the commotion and called 9-1-1. The police came, and guess who was wrong? The man…he was charged for harassing a group of youth. (It really makes an impression when all of GDT are in tears)”

Dude. What are you doing?

Dude!

Brace Yourselves This Thursday: On 10-21, at 10:21 AM, Sirens Will Blare for the Great CA ShakeOut Earthquake Drill

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

You know what Mad Men’s Don Draper would say about this Thursday’s Great California ShakeOut Earthquake Drill? He’d say that if it was really all that great, then you wouldn’t need to have the word “great” in the name.

But no matter, all’s you have to do now is make a mental note and then when All Hell Breaks Loose on Thursday, 10-21, at 10:21* AM you can tell those around you to keep calm because it’s just a drill.

Or just plug your ears – that’s the other option:

And here’s a visual aid the boys in the Art Department just whipped up:

And here’s the FB and the Twitter.

And here’s a peek at part of the Facebook Wall:

The Great California ShakeOut: Imagine a civic group is hosting a huge potluck. Volunteers issue invitations, set up tables & put out plates. What if 100 families are expected & come, but only 10 families bring a potluck dish & the other 90 don’t? Can you see how this type of scenario could impact the aftermath of the next quake? If your friends… are not registered for the ShakeOut, please invite them today! Be a friend. Help others prepare!”

And here’s the first reply:

Tony Willis I know that i am going to eat and so are my dogs.”

O.K. then. That’s the spirit, Tony!

All right, see you Thursday. Shake Baby, Shake.

*This could be a reference to the October 21, 1868 Hayward Fault Earthquake but I don’t know.

Stanford’s Cardinal and White Spring Football Game at Kezar Stadium a Huge Success

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

Thousands of Stanford University fans turned up at Kezar Stadium today for the annual Cardinal and White game:

“In keeping with past practice, Coach Jim Harbaugh used a draft to divide the roster into Cardinal and White teams. Assistant Lance Anderson, who will coach the Cardinal, had the first pick and took quarterback Andrew Luck. Assistant Tim Drevno, who will coach the White, was then given three selections. It’s a full-contact scrimmage for everyone except Luck, who is off limits to tacklers.”

This was a big deal – Mayor Newsom went and declared today “Stanford Football Day in San Francisco”

It all happened beneath UCSF medical school and our cardinal and white Sutro Tower:

They even brought up 16 cheerleaders, who rooted for both sides.

Oh, here he is, #12, Cardinal QB Andrew Luck

He looks like an intense Tom Cruise, except taller. Let’s see how he does over the next third of a second.

Success, as Tight End Zach Ertz catches a bullet.

O.K. then. Do people actually gamble on this game? Apparently.

See you next year! (Maybe)
