UFL Football League Struggles to Pay the Bills, But Will the NFL Strike Help Paul Pelosi’s Sacramento Mountain Lions?

Monday, March 14th, 2011

Here are all the deets since the UFL‘s California Redwoods started playing professional at AT&T Park in 2009.

Our “local” team has upped and moved to Sacramento – they’re called the Mountain Lions now. Oh well. At least the uniforms have a dignified, old-school look, so that should please area writer Joe Eskenazi.

You’d think the enormous squad of cheerleaders would be called the Kittens, or the Pumettes, or maybe even the Cougars, but no, they’re called the Lady Lions. See?

Anywho, elements of the UFL, as you might imagine, are having trouble paying the bills. Uh oh. (Hey you know what happens to a McDonalds what doesn’t pay its employees as agreed? Bad tings, that’s what happens. But if the UFL doesn’t doesn’t make sure that its employees get paid, well that’s A-OK, huh?)

But maybe the 2011 NFL lockout will result in an increase in talent tout de suite?

Stay tooned…

Sacramento, Sacramento, where you at, after the jump

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Tweets That She’ll Run for Democratic Leader of the U.S. House of Representatives

Friday, November 5th, 2010

(Or Minority Leader, that’s what the press calls the position.)

In any event, this recent Tweet from Nancy’s BlackBerry would appear to suggest that she’s is not on the verge of retirement and that she’s not running for Mayor of San Francisco or whatever:

Anyway, that takes care of that – there’ll be no game of musical chairs for a while

“Driven by the urgency of creating jobs & protecting #hcr#wsr, Social Security & Medicare, I am running for Dem Leader.

“Judicial Watch” Once Again, Gets Upset Over Nancy Pelosi’s Use of “Air Force 3” – FOIA Request, Once Again, Reveals Nothing

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

First off, get up-to-speed on the whole House Speaker Nancy Pelosi military jet issue right here at Snopes.

Now, take a look at what Judicial Watch has “uncovered” in their release from this morning, below.

Basically, it says that Nancy travels around a lot under the rules set up under George W. Bush. Does this surprise you? Of course she’s required to fly on military aircraft in this post-9/11 world, so she flies on military a/c. Does this surprise you? And when she flew with a congressional delegation to Iraq, somebody on the plane drank, wait for it, beer! Does this surprise you? Would you like to know which brand? Corona! Does this surprise you? Now, did it come with a lime wedge? Natch! How could it not? But sadly, the report contains no confirmation regarding this important issue…

The crappy C20B military jet that Nancy Pelosi sometimes uses, with noisy, archaic low-bypass engines that would look comfortable hanging off a plane from the 1950’s. This thing is the K-Car of private jets. It’s older than you – it’s straight out of the 1970’s:

(Personally, I’d rather fly coach on JetBlue or the Virgin America. And that way I could land in the bay area at SFO or OAK instead of freaking Solano County, East of the East Bay)

Anyway, maybe I’m missing something so check my work by reading along right here. This report is just a nothing burger with a side-order of nada:

International Air Port.  That flight included $143 in on-flight

It’s Official – Jackie Speier to Remain a Congresswoman for Now

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

Per UC Hastings Law School graduate Nathan Ballard comes news from UC Hastings Law School graduate Jackie Speier. It seems California’s most-beloved lawyer will stay in D.C. after all:

“Rep. Jackie Speier “Grateful” To Stay In Congress. Speier: Unfinished Work To Do On Consumer Protection, Health Care, Education

Washington, D.C. – Today, ending days of speculation, Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA) announced that she will remain in Congress.
“I am thankful that so many supporters came forward to urge me to run for statewide office, but after talking it over with my family, I have decided to stay in Congress,” said Speier. “I am convinced it is the right thing to do for my family, and I believe I can best serve my constituents by remaining in Congress and working hard on consumer protection, financial reform, jobs, and health care.”

Jackie in the Halls of Congress:

“Today’s announcement by Speier, who served for 18 years in the state legislature, ends speculation that she will seek statewide office in 2010. She has served in the U.S. Congress since 2008 and is a member of the financial services committee, the oversight and government reform committee, and the select committee on energy independence and global warming.
“My constituents have given me an extraordinary opportunity to protect the environment, the elderly, and a woman’s right to choose,” said Speier. “I am grateful to serve in Congress, and I do not take a single day for granted.”
In November 1978, Speier was serving as a legal advisor to Congressman Leo Ryan when she flew to Guyana to investigate crimes committed by Peoples’ Temple cult leader Jim Jones. While helping captives escape, Speier was shot five times by cult members and left for dead.
Since then Speier has dedicated her life to public service. She has written groundbreaking legislation in privacy and consumer protection, education, and health care.
Over the years Speier has earned a reputation as a reformer. The San Francisco Chronicle said “Jackie Speier has taken on some of Sacramento’s most powerful forces — banks, insurance companies, prison guards, University of California administrators, even legislative leaders — in her crusades for the public interest.” (May 14, 2006)
Speier, 59, graduated from UC Davis and received her law degree from UC Hastings. She is married with two children.”

An Unexpectedly Large Turnout for San Francisco’s Anti-tax Tea Party

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

A large crowd appeared in the Civic Center area today to take part in San Francisco‘s 2009 Tea Party Protest. People gathered in front of City Hall and then took it over to the old Federal Building. Denizens of S.F. mostly just ignored this event – the vast majority of these folks live in the Bay Area but not actually in San Francisco.

A few “they terk our jerbs“-types were about, but not too many. And a few Men in Black (and/or dark grey) tried to crash the party, so it seems. Andy Wright offers her thoughts here.

The crowd as it looked early on. I’m estimating 500, all told (“more than 400″ per Amanda Vergel de Dios over at SFSU’s Golden Gate Xpress, and “maybe 500” from Carla Marinucci at the San Francisco Chronicle. Bingo! That’s some good estimating right there.):

“$$ Golden Gate Objectivists $$” promoting O.K. fine.

The ThunderPower Thun-350 megaphone was not up to the task today. Many could not hear the speakers.

In front of Nancy Pelosi’s office:

The Old Fed Building:

United States of France:

“Illegal Alien (sic) Cost Taxpayers Trillions.” Don’t tread on me:

Obamanomics: Chains we can believe in:

A ringleader, leading the parade like the Pied Piper:

Not a fan of Goldman Sachs:

Scikle and hammer:

A Cal alum against pork:

Tri-pointed and raccoon hats were the order of the day:

Teabags everywhere.

Luckily, a “REPORTER” was there. The other side of the paper hat ring had the word “MEDIA”

To Be Continued?

Cindy Sheehan Photo Shoot Successful Despite Campaign of Terror

Monday, October 20th, 2008

This was the scene today on the steps of San Francisco’s City Hall – a brief photo shoot that appeared successful despite the recent terror campaign directed towards Cindy Sheehan from Ma Bell, the Mayor of L.A., the Speaker of the House, and criminal elements of the Mission District:

“Starting with the necessity of ‘changing a light bulb’ (bugging my phone) in my hotel phone at the DNC (brought to you by AT&T) while I was out of the room…”

Listen Cindy, nobody bugged your phone and Nancy Pelosi isn’t spying on you. Just saying.

Cindy certainly had more acolytes in tow (about 14) today than on Election Day in June, when this other photo was taken.

Then they marched off to the south, to points unknown.

Nancy Pelosi Workshop Helps Turn Your Green Card into Citizenship

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

Just like last year, and the year before, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is sponsoring a United States Citizen Workshop to help those who have green cards become U.S. Citizens.

So, if you’ve had your green card for a few years and want to become a citizen, you should RSVP at (888) 841-8801, gather up your materials, and then go to UC Hastings College of Law at 198 McAllister this Saturday, September 20th, 2008. When you call Nancy’s office, they will tell you about the documents you need to bring in so they can help you get all set to submit the tricky N-400 form to the government.

There’ll be experts on hand this Saturday, like attorney Joren Lyons of the Asian Law Caucus, who can answer questions and put you on the right path to citizenship.

See you there!

On Saturday, September 20, 2008, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will host a citizenship workshop in San Francisco to provide free assistance to residents who are eligible to become American citizens.
For most immigrants, becoming a United States’ citizen is the culmination of many years of hard work.  Yet many permanent residents who are eligible to apply for citizenship fail to do so because they do not know they are eligible, do not know where to begin the process, or cannot afford to hire someone to assist them with the complicated form.
Speaker Pelosi’s Citizenship Workshop will take place on Saturday, September 20 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at UC Hastings, 198 McAllister Street, in San Francisco.
