I don’t know what’s behind this:
(Yeah, but even so, you just do a “no endorsement” deal, right?)
And this is Chuck Reed’s daughter, the 39-year-old the Air Force Lt. Col? Hatchi matchi!
Your Commonwealth Club has gone stark raving mad for the Grand Old Party this week!
Check it here are the top three joints that the CC is promoting right now:
And Tiger Mother Amy Chua* et vir,** well, they sure sound Republican.
But rest assured, the following week features Barbara Boxer and other Dems flogging their books and causes and whatnot, so everything’ll be back to normal soon ‘nough.
This concludes OMG, It’s Republican Week at the Commonwealth Club: P.J. O’Rourke, Tom Perkins, and Amy Chua & Jed Rubenfeld Feb 12-14.
*”Provocative and profound, Chua and Rubenfeld will transform the way we think about success and achievement.” Uh, nope!
**Namely, Tiger Mother Baby Daddy (TMBD) Jed Rubenfeld. Who’s he? Let’s check his Wiki – “Personal life: Rubenfeld is Jewish.” OK then.
1935: Germany strong:
2012: People’s Republic* of China strong:
And you can’t see, but there are five stars on the PRC flag:
“The five stars and their relationship represents the unity of Chinese people under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. The orientation of the stars shows that the unity should go around a center. The larger star symbolizes the Communist Party of China, and the four smaller stars that surround the big star symbolize the four social classes (the working class, the peasantry, the urban petite bourgeoisie and the national bourgeoisie) of Chinese people mentioned in Mao’s “On the People’s Democratic Dictatorship“
In the center of the photo, you’ll find “heiress and socialite” Charlotte Smith Mailliard Swig Shultz, wife of Famous Republican George P. Shultz – check out her bio.** Now, which star is for her? I’m thinking it’s the star representing the national bourgeoisie, but IDK for sure.
*The current communist or socialist states that include the words People’s Republic in their full names:
Historical examples include:
** CSMSS (born ca. 1934) is an American heiress and socialite. She is the Chief of Protocol for the state of California, and the Chief of Protocol for the City and County of San Francisco. She is the wife of former United States Secretary of State George P. Shultz. In 2007, she was named Honorary Commander of The Royal Victorian Order by Queen Elizabeth II.
Have you seen the Sunday NYT? It features San Francisco’s very own Supervisor Scott Wiener.
Check it and note the closeted Republican theme.
All right, babe, try to pose like Abraham Lincoln – that’s it, sober, sober, c’mon give me a lot more sober, that’s it, hold it, hold it, CLICK:

Oh what’s that, Gentle Reader? You’ve been to City Hall and you know for a fact that the wood inside the big chambers up on the second floor doesn’t actually glow IRL.? All right, well let’s tone that down, thusly:
How about a Lincoln hat? Here you go:
Now we’re going to lose the hat but go full desaturated. I think we’ve reached endgame:
Marc Benioff > Larry Ellison.
Marc Benioff > Republican Ron Conway.
Am I right, people?
So who’s left?
Anyway, this is becoming an annual tradition for Lynne and Marc Benioff – deets below.

All the deets, released this AM:
“Marc and Lynne Benioff are making the following donations:
· $250,000 to Catholic Charities CYO’s Star Community Home to provide temporary housing and assistance to families in need. This will be executed as a challenge grant, whereby contributions by the public to support Star Community Home will be matched dollar for dollar by the Benioffs, up to the amount of their gift.
· $230,000 to Hamilton Family Center’s First Avenues program to provide temporary rental subsidies to help at-risk families from becoming homeless.
· $70,000 to the San Francisco Chronicle’s Season of Sharing Fund to provide one-time temporary assistance to families experiencing unexpected crisis.
“Marc and I want to further our partnership with the City to break the cycle of homelessness for children and families in San Francisco,” said Lynne Benioff. “We hope that others will join us this holiday season to ensure the health and safety of every child in the City.”

Don’t ask about sales of Chia Ron Paul these days.
Anyway, that Chia company is based in San Francisco. Who knew?
Is this “Happy” Chia Obama or “Determined” Chia Obama? I can’t tell:

All the deets:
“Chia Obama Sales Are Leading Chia Romney Sales - CHIA OBAMA: 69.6% vs. CHIA ROMNEY: 29.5%
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 2, 2012 – Now there is a new kind of poll about the Presidential election – the “Chia Poll.” While Romney and Obama are battling it out in the political polls, Chia versions of Romney and Obama are battling it out at K-mart stores and online. These percentages are compiled from internet sales and in-store sales at K-mart.
In the most recent sales data available from Joseph Enterprises, Inc. of San Francisco (the company that markets Chia Obama and Chia Romney), the reported sales figures since the start of the first airing of Joseph Enterprises’ TV commercial featuring both Chia Romney and Chia Obama (from September 17, 2012 – September 29, 2012) are as follows:
Chia Obama 69.6% vs. Chia Romney 29.5%.
Additional sales for items in Joseph Enterprises’ “Freedom of Choice” collection during these same dates were for Chia Gingrich 0.3% and Chia Ron Paul 0.5%.
These results reflect the latest sales figures reported to Joseph Enterprises from K-mart and online retailers Amazon.com, Drugstore.com and www.Americanchia.com according to Joe Pedott, President of Joseph Enterprises.
Will the sales of the Chia versions of Obama and Romney reflect the actual outcome of the election? How will the sales figures vary from week to week? Will people buy one Chia version of the candidates or both? “If people buy both Chia versions of the candidates, they could do all sorts of creative things with them, says Pedott. They could make their own videos featuring Chia Romney and Chia Obama. They could stage their own debates. Who knows what people will do with their Chia versions of the candidates? I guess we’ll find out online,” says Pedott.
The political parties might even use them for fundraising purposes.
People can view the commercial online at www.Americanchia.com. Limited editions of the Chia versions of Mitt Romney and Barack Obama are available at K-mart stores and online at Amazon.com, Drugstore.com and www.Americanchia.com.

Only Paris is worthy of Rome; only Rome is worthy of Paris.
That means that Paris has been “twinned” with Rome in an exclusive sister-city relationship. It’s an “elaborate cultural partnership,” as they say.
So does that mean that Mayor Ed Lie will be lying once again today?
Yep, pretty much.
But you’ve got to realize that things are more or less on autopilot at City Hall these days, so it’s not really his volition.
Now, here’s what we really have with the City of Light. We have one of these things:
Which in American is “pacts of friendship and cooperation signed by the City of Paris.”
Which, IRL, is rien de bien grave (no biggee). See Below.
IMO, we should be like Dubai, which ID’s itself as a Partner City with Paris.
All right, TTFN. But remember, We’ll
Always Never Have Paris.
IRL, Paris, France is friends with just about everybody. The list of partner cities:
2012: San Francisco
2011: Sao Paulo, signed an amendment to the Cooperation Agreement of 2004
2011: Rio de Janeiro
2011: Ramallah, signed a pact of friendship and cooperation inauguration, the Garden of Nations, a bust by French sculptor Emile-Antoine Bourdelle (1861-1929), including Ramallah to Paris
2010: Tel Aviv-Jaffa
2009: San Francisco
2009: Rio de Janeiro
2007: Phnom Penh
2004: Sao Paulo
2003 St. Petersburg
2001: Porto Alegre (joint statement)
2000 (updated in 2004): Washington
1999: OVA (Arab Towns Organization)
1999: Buenos Aires
1997: St. Petersburg
1996: San Francisco
1956: Rome (Twin Exclusive)
And in other news, George P. Shultz was a Nixon and Reagan appointee, not a Carter appointee. (You’d be amazed how many people think (or say) he’s a Carter appointee.)
Anywho, ever more deets, including a visit to Le Twitter HQ in the corrupt Twitterloin:
“From September 25 to 28, the mayor of Paris, Bertrand Delanoë, is visiting San Francisco to strengthen ties and cooperation between the two cities.
The mayor of Paris has a full agenda for his stay in California. After a welcome reception at the Consulate of France in San Francisco, he visited two companies Parisoma and Twitter. 27 in the morning, he will go to Parisoma a common workspace, exchange and support for entrepreneurs. Created by the French Stéphane Distinguin, Parisoma accompanied nearly 300 start-up since its inception in 2007.
Bertrand Delanoë must also discover the new headquarters of Twitter in the SoMa district, the famous social network of micro-blogging, along with its CEO Jack Dorsey. With New York, Paris is the city with the most subscribers to his Twitter account, and this year the City of Light became the first in the world to exhibit his tweets in the public space, the place Châtelet.
Paris delegation has always aimed to encourage more trade with San Francisco, mainly on economic and technological. Several meetings with the mayor of this city, Edwin Lee, are well planned and Bertrand Delanoë is expected to sign a memorandum with him, in line with those of 2006 and 2009 to facilitate cooperation. This will be an opportunity to discuss joint projects twinned towns and to consider connections between the research teams.”
Oh, here they are. London, John and Daniel, anyway:

(Does D5 really have the “best neighborhoods” of San Francisco? Mmmm…)
Oh look, lots of people were there with these signs, regarding the corrupt 8 Washington project.
But I think we’ll get a chance to vote on this issue next year so this isn’t really on the top of the agenda these days.
Here are the introductions:
Andrew Resignato - A “people-powered campaign.” Sort of looks like Ross Mirkarimi.
Daniel Everett – Of Folk Law Radio
John Rizzo - He fixes problems, he has an engineering background.
London Breed – She was born in District Five. She was born in District Five. She was born in District Five. One imagines she’s still turbo-pissed at Mayor Ed Lie for not appointing her earlier this year. She’s raised the most money and has the support of Kamala Harris and Willie Brown.
Christina Olague - Pronounced “oh law gee” with a hard “g?” News to me. (Does she have a cold or is that her voice? Wow.)
“Hello. My name is, uh, Christina Olague. I’m Supervisor of this District. I was appointed in January. And I’m very thrilled and excited to be, uh, serving the community as the district Supervisor.”
And then later, more talk about how this inarticulate person is Supervisor.
And oh, here’s the big pitch for supporters, which I’ll tell you I didn’t see any:
“We need your presence!!! Please come out to hold up signs, wear your Tee Shirts and pass out literature. All the Candidates will be there. We want them to see strong support for Christina Olague. Got Questions? Call 415-724-0136 – Shelley B. Bell”
So, the Olague campaign wants the other candidates to see Olague has lots of support? OK fine, if that’s the way you want to do it.
Anyway, she’s a big fat SELLOUT and that’s why she got appointed over a moderate like London Breed.
And oh, she’s lying about that whole perjury issue with the Mayor and Ross Mirkarimi. Oh well.
Thea Selby - “I am super happy to be here…” Apparently, running for Supe is “hecka more fun” than you can imagine. And, apparently, everybody should consider running.
Julian Davis – “There are pro-development interests that are controlling the agenda of City Hall.”
This was the first attack against the Interim Supe during this forum.
“How do they get away with it? I’ll tell you – they get away with it by choosing your leaders for you. Over the past two years in San Francisco we have seen an appointed Mayor, an appointed District Attorney, an appointed Sheriff, and an appointed District Five Supervisor. Ask yourself is that’s participatory democracy the way we envisioned it? The answer is that it is not.”
Hope Johnson –
“…if those people are really representing you or if they are merely selling out to the highest bidder. And as Supervisor, I would hope to continue to ensure that government acts in our best interests and try to curb the abuse of authority some of which you’ve heard Mr. Davis talk about just a few minutes ago.”
And there you have it.
[UPDATE: Well, surprise surprise, Christina Olague got an endorsement last night. See Comments.]
Hey, remember Amador v. California Culnary Academy?
Well they’re still doling out the cash on this one, so why not get some of it?
Now I’ll tell you, the only worser idea than going to law school these days (ooh, that link is a bit much, non?) is going to cooking school, am I right, GF? So why not use your JD to help the poor souls who were misled by the California Culinary Academy?
It’s a win-win, baby! Get all the deets below.
Sure, cooking school can be sexy, but does it pay off?
This job is new, this job is you, Counselor:
This is an opportunity to found a legal aid organization. In Amador v. California Culnary Academy, students alleged they were led to believe the $46,000 12-month culinary education they received would make economic sense based on their post-graduation job opportunities. For most students that proved untrue.
In connection with the $41.8 million class action settlement of the case (judgement is expected to become final later this month), $2 million has been earmarked to provide student-debt-related services to class members. These class members need help dealing with their creditors. The director will set up and manage the firm under the oversight of the trustees of the fund, Ray E. Gallo and Robert W. Mills. The objective is to effectively manage and compromise the class members’ debts by all legal means. Also, through other fundraising efforts, we hope this new firm may live beyond its $2 million founding budget to become the first agency to focus on providing remedies to the economically disadvantaged when they suffer consumer-related tragedies like those at issue in Amador.
The ideal applicant is an attorney with 10 or more years of experience who enjoys being in a courtroom and has significant experience supervising other lawyers and staff members. Big firm training and top 10 schooling are preferred, but anybody smart and scrappy is welcome to apply. This will be a small firm environment, and effective use of technology will be essential, so you should be someone who welcomes those things.
The job may be available as early as July 1, 2012 and requires a commitment of at least two years. The location of the firm will be determined in consultation with the Director once hired.
Please submit cover letter, resume, writing sample, and salary history by email. Potentially qualified candidates will be asked to complete online assessments.
