Better Know Your California Special “Red Letter” License Plates – What Does “S3″ Mean? What Does “R” Mean?

Thursday, March 1st, 2012

I’ll tell you, if you drive around long enough with a red letter license plate, CHP officers will end up asking you what your license plate means.

The red “S” stands for Senate, as in California State. (Red is their color, it’s their thing. The lower house, the Assembly, prefers to use royal blue.)

The “3″ stands for 3rd District, like the one we have on the right side of San Francisco (and on up to Marin and parts of Sonoma County).

And the little “R,” well that means “retired.”

Note that the registration is current. Note that this retired state senator actually paid for his meter space. Hurray:

The Latest Archie Comics Project is Called “The Governator” and It’s About Former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger?

Monday, April 4th, 2011

I don’t know, man.

Anyway, presenting, The Governator cartoon:

“The project is a collaboration between Schwarzenegger, branded entertainment firm A Squared Entertainment, comic books publisher Archie Comics and POW! Entertainment – the company headed by former Marvel Comics creator Stan Lee. The show is loosely based on Schwarzenegger’s recent political career, with an animated post-governor Arnie fighting crime and natural disasters while trying to “make it home for dinner every night”.

Unwelcome Machine Gun: California Won’t Let Retired San Diego Cop Keep His Assault Weapon

Friday, January 7th, 2011

I don’t know, sometimes when a police dog gets old, they’ll let a retiring police officer do an adoption deal, but that kind of thing’s not going to happen with assault weapons and retired cops in California anytime soon.

Why? Because of this recent bit here from the AG’s office.

See?

I don’t know, I wouldn’t mind living in a neighborhood full of retired cops with unnecessary firepower. It’d be just like Switzerland where every house has some sort of gun, practically. And nobody messes with Switzerland.

And wouldn’t this scene with Clint Eastwood be more effective if he had some sort of World-War I-era machine gun in his hand?

No doubt.

Just Try to Read This Official Car Towaway Notice From the City of San Francisco

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Come on, you can do it. Take a gander at the dollar amount of the fine for abandoning your car on the streets of San Francisco. Let’s agree that dollar amount has two digits, but it is $75? $85? $88? $98? $80? $90?

This is no mere triviality - if you don’t get the proper notice then you might not have to pay the fine. As to whether San Francisco can legally tow away your ride with the way the local laws are written these days, well, that’s up in the air.

Can I explain why the owner was given only three days to move in light of the last year’s policy change allowing seven days? No, no I cannot. Click to expand.

Are San Francisco drivers gonna get a massive refund the way it just went down South San Francisco Way with the red light cameras? [KRON's Eve Taft- why isn't she in every romcom Hollywood can produce?] No se.

I’m the first one to rain on the parade of plaintiff’s attorneys with ridiculous notions of what constitutes a decent lawsuit, but this one, this one looks good.

The mise-en-scene atop Buena Vista Heights at the end of Masonic, where it’s so hilly you might need an exemption to drive your SUV around.

This aging, now-woodless Willys Jeep Wagon ur-SUV needs no exemption for excessive weight as it’s not close to the weight limit. (I ought to call it in to Pimp My Ride or something.) Wonder where it is now, wonder if it got towed. [Dude, where's my car? What happened to my woody?]

Anyway, we’ll just have to bide our time to see what occurs with this not-yet-certified class action lawsuit. Writer Joe Eskenazi will keep us posted, I’m sure.
