Famous San Francisco street photographer Justin Beck has bounced back from losing his camera on the mean Streets of San Francisco, looks like. He’s got another Nikon to work with so that’s nice.
Check it, a canary yellow streetcar.
Is this an album cover?

The SFPD has just fleshed out this story of a trip to Japantown gone wrong.
Turns out the guy trying to fence(?) the booty is less than 18 years old.
Anyway, all the deets:
“SFPD Arrest Suspect by way of Smartphone GPS Technology
11-106
Posted Date: 9/30/2011
San Francisco Police Officers at Northern Station arrested a suspect in connection with a robbery by way of GPS technology.
The suspect who cannot be identified due to the fact he is a juvenile, was taken into custody on September 29, 2011 and charged for possession of stolen property.
In this incident, the victim was walking home from work on the 1600 block of Post St. at 11:00 p.m. when she was suddenly shocked in the neck by a stun gun. The suspect then stole her belongings, which included a Smartphone. Shortly after, a group of good Samaritans came to the victim’s aid and she was able to call the police.
Responding officers arrived on scene and asked the victim if she subscribed to a GPS tracking device on her Smartphone. The victim stated, “Yes”.
A tracking device is a service that allows subscribers to track their Smartphone when their device is either stolen or lost. Using GPS technology, the officers were able to track the Victim’s stolen Smartphone to the area of 7th St and Market.
Officers responded to the area and were able to track down the Smartphone through its tracking device software.
The officers were able to detain the suspect who had the Smartphone in his possession. The suspect was placed under arrest for possession of stolen property.”
Well, I guess this is a happy ending…
The intersection of 7th and Market Street in San Francisco is the world capitol of black market iPhone sales:

Nine years and something months later, the SFPD makes an arrest:

“SFPD ARREST SUSPECT IN 10 YEAR OLD BRUTAL COLD CASE SEXUAL ASSAULT
11-103 Posted Date: 9/27/2011
The San Francisco Police Department’s Sex Crimes Detail Cold Case Unit made an arrest in a 10 year old sexual assault case. The incident occurred on November 6, 2001 in San Francisco, CA and the suspect was arrested on September 26, 2011 in San Jose, CA. The victim in this incident was offered a ride from the Mission District to her home. The three suspects then drove with the victim to Golden Gate Park and parked their car in an isolated dark area of the park were they sexually assaulted and robbed her. The victim was then ordered out of the suspect vehicle and had to flag down a passing motorist for assistance.
Due to the diligent work of the Sex Crimes Unit and Violence Reduction Team, in addition to the advent in today’s technology, the San Francisco Police Department was able to identify the suspect as Vinh Q. Chung, Vietnamese, Male, 10/26/1981. Chung was taken into custody at his home by members of the San Francisco Police Department’s Violent Reduction Team. He is currently being held at the County Jail in lieu of 5 million dollars bail.”
How about that?

Do you know how much bad art we pay for? I mean, there’s lots and lots of (government-funded and government-mandated) bad art around town, let me tell you.
OTOH, popular photographer Justin Ryan Beck does his good art, his street photography, for free for one and all – isn’t that nice?
Or least it was nice, until yesterday, when the digital camera he was using got stolen out of his hands in the Richmond District at four-something PM in the afternoon:
“I’m OK but was just robbed at the corner of Arguello and Balboa. Talked to cops. Time for a new camera I guess. :/”
Here’s his last photo. It appears he’ll be on a break for a while.
Oh well.
How can we get a DSLR, preferably a new Nikon along with a wide anglish lens or two, back into the hands of JRB, you know, where it rightfully belongs?

Dirty Harry at 40 continues with the case of the pool atop our Financial District / Chinatown Hilton.
Now check it – everybody’s favorite psycho killer hippie Scorpio somehow got on the roof of famously-sawtoothed* 555 California, you know, in order to start the carnage. See?

Now wouldn’t it be cool to go swimming up there on a dreaded sunny day?
Well, we’ll never know – here’s how it looks these days:

Empty empty empty.
Oh well…
I’ll get some more screen grabs and make some more posts from this movie later on.
In the meantime, check out all the locations – there are lots and lots:

*So every shark laboring at triple-five Cal can have his/her own “corner office,” of sorts, that’s why the BofA Building has that distinctive shape.

Say what you will about that highly-rated Dirty Harry film, it ably shows you what the 415 looked like back in 1971, back before it became too expensive for Hollywood to do business in San Francisco. This movie is all 100% genuine on-location San Francisco Bay Area (with the exception of the early bank heist shots).
Now these days, the Golden Gate Park’s Buffalo Paddock doesn’t have more than a half-dozen critters. There’s just a handful left, all female (the Golden Girls let’s call them), so unless Ted Turner comes through with his offer of free bison from one of his ranches in Montana or someplace, we’re going to run out of bison.
But check out how things were back in the day. They were all over. See?
You can barely make out the school bus that psychotic hippie Scorpio just hijacked:

Here are the latest Twitterings from Northern Station Captain Ann Mannix:
“Just read 4 street robbery reports from the weekend and every victim had their cell phones in their hands…conceal your cell”
So don’t be like this: Really.
Here’s how Amici’s East Coast Pizzeria defines the Western Addition, apparently. Rather a small piece of real estate compared with my version of what constitutes the Western A:

Let’s be careful out there…

[UPDATE: Perhaps some of the perps have been arrested. Joe Eskenazi has the deets]
You ever just drive around the Western Addition with your buds in a white minivan and then rob people all night long?
Well, you’re not alone, per Captain Ann Mannix, the Resident Tweeter of Northern Station.
