Sucker Watch: Most Participants Won’t Pay to Enter the 2013 Bay to Breakers Fun Run So Why Should You?

Tuesday, April 30th, 2013

Oh, you are a sucker. Well, then be my guest – pay $48 for a number. And actually, and you’ll enjoy this, sucker, it’s already too late to get a good deal on registration for 2013. Prices be higher now.

Most people who aren’t professional runners  don’t pay and here’s a good reason not to pay:

Your money goes directly to “Christian Billionaire” Philip Anschutz.

And then he takes your $$$$$ and uses it to, over the years, oppose the concept of evolution and fund anti-gay efforts.

(It’s funny that he even took an interest in this historic fun run and street party but he likes running so there y0u go.)

The reason that organizers won’t say how many “bandits” show up for the party is because they don’t want you to think that most people don’t pay.

But, IRL, most people don’t pay.

If you don’t believe me then take a NSFW look right here.

How many bibs do you see? Every year they say they will eject all these people and every year they don’t actually do it.

Now the San Francisco Nike Womens Marathon is different. You see, they give out coveted awards and people just can’t help themselves. And then stuff like this happens; “NO BIB NO BIB NO BIB!

But B2B aint like that.

One difference this year will be a limit on the size of the bags you might carry.

It’s like the size of Fook Mi’s backpack, best I can imagine.

All right, have a great 2013 B2B.

And if you want to pay money to somebody, just take whatever your reg fee is and give it to Pride or whatever.

End Of Line.

OMG, It’s Yet Another Mid-Market Camp-Out in Front of Sheikh Shoes – Remember That Big Fight on Market Street?

Wednesday, November 14th, 2012

I do. It was back in the the Summer of 2012 – see below.

Anyway, this was the scene late last night:

Ah mem’ries:

Wow, this one has it all.

Via Bluoz and from the perspective of those in line at the Nike Air Yeezy 2 campout at Sheikh shoes, it’s:

“Air Yeezy 2 Campout Fight in SF”

Just 23 views so far, but this one, she’s a gonna go viral.

“Air Yeezy 2 campout fight in the Tenderloin District of San Francisco. All this happened while we were in line at Shiekh Shoes. This crackhead hopped on the front of the trolly and wouldn’t get off, so when the lady in pink tried to be a hero she got a SMACK SMACK to the face. Air Yeezy campout. Shout out to the homies that were holding my spot down for me while I was at work. Big thanks.”

Color commentary:

“Get her, Grandma!”

“She’s leaking. She’s leaking.” (In reference to AC TRANSIT BUS FIGHT I AM A MOTHERFUCKER, aka AC Transit Bus Fight)

“That’s some crazy shit – laid out under a train.”

Oh, and then a mess of cops showed up.

Of course, the solution to all this is to give Twitter $20,000,000 and its own bus line so it stays in town.

Russian Embassy Comes Out for Julian Davis for District Five Supervisor – Plus, Litter From Olague Workers

Tuesday, September 25th, 2012

Here it is, up at the top of Alamo Square:

Tell me, who on Gaia’s Earth would think that dull-witted Christina Olague would be a good person to represent District Five? I mean, why would you pick a Run Ed Run chair to represent the district that so strongly favored John Avalos for Mayor just a short while ago?

Perhaps Christina Olague was picked by Ed Lee and Rose Pak to represent Ed Lee and Rose Pak? And now Willie Brown is on board as well?

Mmmm…

Now take a look here at what’s littering the Western Addition these days. That’s right, it’s Olague lit, routinely dumped by her workers.

This is what happens when a non-profit forces people to do work that they, fundamentally, don’t want to do:

They’ll dump their lit that you give them, that’s what they’ll do.

(Nobody said buying popularity would be easy, huh?)

Cf. the campaign of Julian Davis:

The volunteers for Julian actually seem to care.

Go figure.

Shadowy “PROSF” Association Leader Hosts Meeting with Christina Olague Last Month, Gets Repaved Block This Month

Thursday, August 23rd, 2012

This here is the flyer posted on a street in the “West Panhandle” area last month by the more-or-less anti-SF “PRO-SF” Homeowners Association.

Well, a slightly modified, Run Ed Run version – don’t click to expand

And this here is this month, on the same block, the very short block where the leader of PRO-SF, a Helen Lovejoy type, a person who worked against the harmless, SFPD-supported Panhandle Bandshell music project back a half-decade ago just happens to reside.

You see that? A quick repaving job, just for one block, just ten weeks before the District Five Supervisor election:

Now, are other blocks getting repaved? Yes, occasionally. But not anywhere close to here. And now the DPW pavers are gone. poof. Who knows when they will return. Next year, next decade? And hey, was this block so bad to begin with? Nope.

Is this process of where to pave when, you know, highly politicized? Yes, pretty much – it’s the same with the SFMTA and other agencies.

Is there a connection between the location of the real estate of a single fussbudget and where DPW decides to repave this week this month this year? I don’t know.

But other Chicago-style, Blagojevichy stuff goes on about town, so why not this too?

Interim Supervisor (and So-Called Progressive) Christina Olague, Ed Lee, and Stop and Frisk – How Does This Make Sense?

Wednesday, July 11th, 2012

All right, work with me here, people.

1. So-called Progressive Christina Olague worked hard on the RUN ED RUN campaign so that “Interim” Mayor Ed Lee, the San Francisco Republican Party’s choice, would beat actual Progressive John Avalos in the mayoral race last year. So that Ed Lee could try to … promote his stop and frisk approach to law enforcement. So how can Olague be a Progressive if she worked to elect the standing leader of the conservative faction of San Francisco politics?

2. And uh, doesn’t San Francisco already have a stop and frisk policy? I think so! Let’s go to the videotape HTML:

United States v. Hernandez, No. CR 08-0730 WHA (N.D. Calif. 1-6-2011)

San Francisco police officers observed three men whom they believed to be members of the MS-13 gang standing in front of a restaurant. A no-loitering sign was posted in the restaurant window. The officers watched the men for a few minutes, but observed no threatening or gang-related behavior. The officers approached the men to advise them about the no-loitering policy, and despite the lack of any threatening behavior, conducted a pat-down search of each one.”

Uh, doesn’t that sound like a recent instance of stop and frisk? It does to me! But this particular instance was ruled to be unconstitutional.

So, we have a stop and frisk policy RIGHT NOW in San Francisco, but apparently the SFPD isn’t going far enough with it, in the eyes of Accidental Mayor Ed Lee, anyway, and yet the SFPD ALREADY goes too far with it, like right now.  So how does that make any sense?

All right, here’s your San Francisco stop and frisk answer key:

1. Christina Olague leans to the left in San Francisco politics but she partnered with the dominant political faction, the conservative one, in order to get appointed as Supervisor for District Five for nine years. Of course, that meant that she had to strongly favor the Republican choice over somebody like John Avalos, somebody who would never forward vague unconstitutional-sounding ambiguities as Mayor Ed Lee has recently done with the stop and the frisk. But if she hadn’t done that then there’d be no way she’d ever get elected Supe on her own, so that’s the decision she made.

2. I’m still at a loss on this one.  San Francisco already has a stop and frisk program that already pushes past the limits (at times, anyway, certainly) of what courts are going to allow and yet Ed Lee wants a stop and frisk program. I’m guessing that the murder rate ‘n stuff is way up recently so Ed Lee wants to be able to point to something that he attempted to do about it. IRL, this whole concept was an obvious non-starter from the get-go.

Thus concludes Interim Supervisor (and So-Called Progressive) Christina Olague, Ed Lee, and Stop and Frisk – How Does This Make Sense?

Here’s One Way, Just One Way, That San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee Can Get Out of that Perjury Thing with Christina Olague

Monday, July 2nd, 2012

Leave us begin:

Mayor Lee, before you decided to file charges for misconduct here, did you talk to any members of the Board of Supervisors about whether or not you should do so?” Kopp asked.

“I did not,” Lee replied.

Minutes later, a bomb threat delayed the hearing for nearly two hours.”

Now, of course Debra Walker could be lying or she could be confused or what have you.

BUT I DON’T THINK SO!

I’m srsly.

So what are we left with?

How about this? What if Mayor Ed Lee discussed Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi with so-called Progressive Supervisor Christina Olague after he decided to file charges.*

See how that works? (Something like, “Oh yeah, I was just patronizing her, trying to make her feel good by asking for advice.”)

And there are three or four other explanations I can think of that would similarly keep Ed Lee out of the clink.

Even though he’s lying.

Now, let’s hear from appointed Supervisor Christina Olague. What would she have had to say, if she hadn’t gotten all flummoxed and, you know, run off to hide in her office?

Either:

1. I may be slow,* but I’m ahead of you; or

2. RUN ED RUN!

You Make The Call.

*You know, assuming that he wasn’t previously nailed down on the exact moment he decided to file charges.

**Indeed, the least intelligent*** Supervisor we’ve got these days.

Making Money Off of Donated Food: Wow, the Illegal Black Market of Mid-Market is Larger Than Ever

See?

This (about 20 sellers all in a row) is the most I’ve seen all in one place at one time.

The SFPD knows all about this – sometimes they care, but most of the time they don’t.

And best of all, after you purchase a bunch of food, you can go across the street to buy a stolen iPhone.

Remember, “Mayor Ed Lee Get’s It Done!”

“Run Ed Run!”

Here are the Three Reasons Why You Were Foolish to Have Registered for the Bay to Breakers

Monday, May 21st, 2012

Three Reasons Why You Were Foolish to Have Registered for the Bay to Breakers:

1. Your money goes to Philip Anschutz, the Christian Billionaire – see below.

2. You don’t get a refund even if the Philip Anschutz people decide to cancel the race – you agreed to that in the oppressive agreement you made on the Bay to Breakers website when you signed up: “…all Race entry fees are non-refundable, even if Race is cancelled…” See after the jump for details on that.

3. Most other participants don’t pay, so why should you? Take a look right here, this is early on during the first hour of the 2012 event  - how many registrants can you spot?

I’ll tell you, I see just one soul with a “racing” bib. Do you think any of these people cared about getting a “racing” time that shows how long it took them to run the BtoB? Do you think any of them were arrested by the SFPD? Do you think any of them were ejected from the “race” course by “race” organizers? I don’t.

Those were just Three Reasons Why You Were Foolish to Have Registered for the Bay to Breakers.

Sucker!

Often identified as “Christian billionaire Phil Anschutz”,[26] he is a Republican donor who supported George W. Bush‘s administration. He has been an active patron of a number of religious and conservative causes:

  • Helped fund Colorado‘s 1992 Amendment 2, a ballot initiative designed to overturn local and state laws that prohibit discrimination against individuals on the basis of sexual orientation but was invalidated by Romer v. Evans after it passed.[19]
  • Contributed $70,000 in 2003 to the Discovery Institute, to specifically support the work of telecom guru George Gilder but not matters related to intelligent design. That fact was validated by Discovery President Bruce Chapman in a letter-to-the-editor to the Rocky Mounatain News, “Anschutz never gave that program a nickel,”[27]

The Discovery Institute is a think tank based in Seattle, Washington that also promotes intelligent design and criticizes evolution.[28]

Sammy Kitwara and Mamitu Daska Win Bay to Breakers 2012, But Not As Many are Watching the Race This Year

There he is this morning, #21, on the right, already breaking away from the pack halfway through the Golden Gate Park Panhandle on Fell:

Get all the deets on the high-placing runners right here at Fog City Journal from Luke Thomas.

Now I’ll tell you, I didn’t register for the 101st running of the Bay to Breakers, so that means I haven’t signed away my right to ever in my life “attack, embarrass or disparage” San Francisco’s littlest TV news station, KRON-TV.* Therefore, I have the freedom to ask, “What the hell, KRON? You start broadcasting the race at 8:00 AM after all the winners have crossed the finish line?”

Is this the smallest BtoB in recent memory? Seems that way. The past week the Philip Anschutz people couldn’t even give away registrations. Oh well.

LinkedIn won, once again, in the Centipede category:

(The Philip Anschutz people used to call this category “Human Centipede,” with hilarious results.)

Back in the day, there were hundreds of thousands of people out there on Bay to Breakers Day, and no fences, and everything seemed to work out. But in this day, of uptight rich white NIMBYs living in the Western Addition and Hayes Valley and district elections affecting the behavior of San Francisco Supervisors, things are different. OK.

OK fine.

*It’s true. It’s in the waiver you assented to – you can’t “attack, embarrass or disparage” any Sponsor and KRON’s a Sponsor so there you go.
