Why on earth are we subsidizing the totally crummy CODA Automotive electric car company? It baffles me. What makes it a good company, what makes it worthy? Nothing.
Anyway, here’s the latest, as expected, the first recall notice has come early, before CODA even delivered 100 cars worldwide.
Here’s their “Statement” about the matter:
“CODA Automotive is committed to safety and has voluntarily recalled*78 of its 2012 CODA model year vehicles within the VIN range of 53G1U4A48CB000026 to 53G1U4A48CB000260. The recall campaign was issued because of the potential that the side curtain airbags in certain vehicles may not deploy as intended due to an improper installation. Certain 2012 model year CODA vehicles may have this condition. There are no known injuries related to this recent discovery. CODA Automotive holds itself to the highest safety standards and continually strives to offer the most reliable product for its consumers.”
Now, I’ll ask you, how many tens of thousands of these vehicles were supposed to have been sold by now? Well, I’ll answer you: SEVERAL! And yet this recall notice shows just how unpopular this product is, even though I can think of at least four huge subsidies the government grants to its owners.
Oh, but what’s this, it’s a non-crappy electric car what’s cheaper than anything from Coda. It’s a Nissan Leaf, which the Coda people have been criticizing for years. Oh well. Anyway, adorable, non?
BTW, 35,000 LEAFs have been sold so far, worldwide.
So, CODA, why don’t you take your assets and try to give them to the govmint to make up for all that you have cost us?

*This recall is a nothingburger, really. I mean, my giant Toyota doesn’t have side-curtain airbags and nobody’s recalling it, right? The recall notice is important because it gives us a clue to CODA’s abysmal sales….
So the only way to stick it to the Man is to say, “No toasting for me, please.”* (And, of course, get it to-go, as young Akit helpfully points out.) Then, you save like 75 cents every time you get lunch.
This situation really isn’t the fault of the California State Board of Equalization, but it just happens to be the agency what has the job of interpreting and enforcing some of the cray-cray laws** passed in Sacramento, so what can you do?
*And no cucumbers. Cucumbers are horrible, IMO.
**You’re too young to remember the famous snack tax, but I’m not. It didn’t last too long.
This is the one I know. (No matter how drunk the sorority girl, she could sing along with the “na-na, na-na” refrain, so that was a bonus, back in the 90′s.)

NEW YORK, Feb. 21, 2012– Grammy Award-winning band Train is gearing up for the group’s San Francisco 2012 Tour, a special hometown run of club shows, in expectation of the upcoming album CALIFORNIA 37, out April 17 on Columbia Records. The band kicks off six intimate performances in San Francisco starting April 10 at Cafe Du Nord and finishing up April 15 at the Fillmore. A portion of the ticket sales proceeds will go to the San Francisco charity Family House, which provides temporary housing to families of seriously ill children. Train referenced their commitment to the Bay area and their fans where they began their illustrious career in 2009′s multiplatinum album, SAVE ME, SAN FRANCISCO. Full list of dates below. The first single from CALIFORNIA 37, “Drive By,” continues to climb the radio charts and has already entered the Top 10 at both the AAA and HOT AC formats. It is also charting at Top 40 and moving up quickly. “Drive By” has sold over 200,000 singles since its release in January. The “Drive By” video premiered on VH1 on February 18 and has gone into rotation there and with support from VEVO. Internationally “Drive By” has been embraced in the UK, Canada, Japan, France, Australia, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Netherlands, Switzerland and other countries.
Train is heading to the premiere NASCAR event, the Daytona 500, on February 26 when lead singer Pat Monahan will perform the national anthem before thousands of fans live and millions watching on television. The Daytona 500 will air at 1:00pm EST on Fox.

New Lowe’s Home Improvement & Company’s Commitment to Local Employment Boosts Bayview Hunters Point Economic Development and Anchors New Bayshore Boulevard Home Improvement District
San Francisco, CA—Mayor Gavin Newsom today joined Supervisor Sophie Maxwell, Bayview Hunters Point community leaders and new employees from the community for a grand opening celebration of Lowe’s Home Improvement at its first San Francisco location at 491 Bayshore Boulevard. The brand new store, the former site of Goodman Lumber, has 80,000 square feet of retail space, 11,000 of which is a garden center tailored to the California climate, and will stock over 32,000 products. Mayor Newsom and community leaders also praised the company for its commitment to hiring local members of the community, boosting the economic revitalization of the new Bayshore Boulevard Home Improvement District and creating new local jobs.
“Today we celebrate not just the opening of a new store, but new hope and a new commitment to the economic development and jobs for the people of the Bayview Hunters Point community,” said Mayor Newsom. “Bayshore Boulevard has served as a vital home improvement commercial corridor in San Francisco for decades, and this new Lowe’s will foster the growth and revitalization of the neighborhood and boost our local economy.”
Lowe’s has been committed to supporting the community, both through their corporate donations and local hiring practices. Approximately 312 construction jobs were generated by the Lowe’s development project and of those jobs, about 126 constructions jobs were filled by San Francisco residents with nearly 60 positions by Bayview Hunters Point residents. In addition to construction jobs created, permanent retail and administrative positions were produced to ensure a well staffed store. The Lowe’s team on Bayshore consists of 210 employees and, of those employees, 185 members of the team are San Francisco residents with 81 team members who are residents of the Bayview Hunters Point neighborhood.
For more than 60 years, Lowe’s has been providing home improvement shoppers with a wide range of home improvement products. Lowe’s has also continued to give back to the community. To date, Lowe’s has committed $100,000 to the San Francisco Day Laborer Program, $50,000 to San Francisco’s Adopt-A-Tree Program, $5,000 to Clean City Coalition’s Tool Lending Library, and $1,000 to Thurgood Marshall High School. In addition to these contributions, Lowe’s will host a Gift Card Match Day, during which customers can purchase a Lowe’s Gift Card and Lowe’s will match purchases of gift cards up to $5,000 to support Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco’s next building project.
