WARRIORS MAKE A PLAY FOR MISSION BAY - Team Reaches Deal with Salesforce.com for Arena on Private Property in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO – The Golden State Warriors announced today terms have been reached with salesforce.com to purchase land in San Francisco’s Mission Bay neighborhood, where the team intends to build a new state-of-the-art sports and entertainment center.

Terms of the deal were not announced.

“We believe Mission Bay is a perfect fit,” said Joe Lacob, Co-Executive Chairman and CEO of the Warriors. “It is a wonderful inland site in a dynamic part of the City that is convenient for fans from all over the Bay Area. We are buying private property, but the city will also get a new 5 ½ – acre waterfront park. It’s a win-win for everyone.”

“We’ve said all along we wanted to create a spectacular cultural destination for the City and the entire region,” said Co-Executive Chairman Peter Guber “This is about a shared cultural experience: going to a beautiful and inviting place to see a game, see a show, attend a convention. It will be easily accessible, state of the art, digitally fit, and second to none.”

Although specific details of the plan remain to be announced, the Warriors said previously discussed basic elements of the event center remain in effect: the arena will hold about 18,000 seats; it will showcase NBA basketball games as well as concerts, cultural events, family shows and convention activities; and it will be privately financed on private land, virtually unprecedented among major league sports and entertainment facilities in the U.S.

The new Warriors event center will be built on 12 acres of private, inland property, bounded by 3rd, 16th and South Streets, and Terry Francois Blvd.

The transaction with salesforce.com involves no public property and no public subsidy. There are no naming rights or sponsorship rights associated with the transaction.

The Mission Bay site is well served by public transportation, and borders Muni’s 3rd Street Light Rail. The location is also within a few blocks of Caltrain, and BART connects via an easy underground connection to Muni, both at Embarcadero and at Powell Station once the Central Subway opens in 2018. The Mission Bay neighborhood already has ample parking. And a new I-280 freeway connection at Mariposa Street will land less than a block away.

Mission Bay, a former redevelopment area that became the home of UCSF’s second campus, has been emerging as a modern urban center for the past 15 years. The Warriors new home will be within walking distance of several public plazas, parks, restaurants and retail corridors. AT&T Park is only a few blocks to the north; the Dogpatch, Potrero Hill and Bayview-Hunter’s Point neighborhoods are just to the south.

A key piece of the long-planned Mission Bay redevelopment puzzle, the build-out of this site, will also trigger the construction of a new five-and-a-half-acre waterfront park. Across Terry Francois Blvd. from the arena, the park will feature water-oriented activities and large lawn areas, which can accommodate a variety of recreational uses, similar to Marina Green.

“We’ve spent the past two years listening. We’ve learned a lot. We’re proud of the plans we’ve put forward to date, and we’re thrilled to announce this great leap forward,” said Rick Welts, President and COO of the Warriors. “We are looking forward to engaging with the neighborhood and, ultimately, making this site ‘Warriors Ground.’ This is our path to San Francisco.”

The Warriors first arrived in San Francisco in 1960 and played their first 11 seasons in the City by the Bay. The Warriors new ownership, led by Lacob and Guber, purchased the team in 2010. In 2012, the team announced plans to build a new sports and entertainment facility in San Francisco. The team has targeted the 2018-19 NBA season to debut its new arena.

· $230,000 to Hamilton Family Center’s First Avenues program to provide temporary rental subsidies to help at-risk families from becoming homeless.

· $70,000 to the San Francisco Chronicle’s Season of Sharing Fund to provide one-time temporary assistance to families experiencing unexpected crisis.

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 18, 2011 – Salesforce.com (NYSE: CRM), the enterprise cloud computing (http://www.salesforce.com/cloudcomputing/) company, today announced results for its fiscal second quarter ended July 31, 2011.

“We’re expecting over 40,000 people to register for Dreamforce which takes place in San Francisco later this month. It’s the cloud event of the year where attendees can learn how to supercharge their relationships with employees and customers using social, mobile and open cloud technologies,” said Marc Benioff, Chairman and CEO, salesforce.com. “We hope to see you there.”

Salesforce.com delivered the following results for its fiscal second quarter:

Revenue: Total Q2 revenue was $546 million, an increase of 38% on a year-over-year basis. Subscription and support revenues were $509 million, an increase of 38% on a year-over-year basis. Professional services and other revenues were $37 million, an increase of 44% on a year-over-year basis.

Earnings per Share: Q2 GAAP net loss per share was ($0.03), and non-GAAP diluted earnings per share increased 3% year-over-year to $0.30. These GAAP and non-GAAP results include a one-time charge of $0.04 per diluted share associated with the legal settlement disclosed in the Form 8-K filed on June 15, 2011. The company’s non-GAAP results exclude the effects of approximately $55 million in stock-based compensation expense, approximately $19 million in amortization of purchased intangibles, and approximately $3 million in net non-cash interest expense related to the company’s convertible senior notes. Non-GAAP EPS calculations are based on 143 million diluted shares outstanding during the quarter, including approximately 4 million shares associated with the convertible senior notes and warrants. GAAP EPS calculations are based on a basic share count of approximately 135 million shares.

Customers: Net paying customers rose approximately 6,300 during the quarter to finish at approximately 104,000. This was a quarterly record for the company. Since July 31, 2010, the company added 21,600 net paying customers, an increase of 26% on a year-over-year basis. As discussed on May 19, 2011, the company will no longer provide the customer metric on a quarterly basis, but expects to provide periodic updates on achievement of customer milestones in the future.

Cash: Cash generated from operations for the fiscal second quarter was $83 million, an increase of 9% on a year-over-year basis. Total cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities finished the quarter at approximately $1.3 billion.

Deferred Revenue: Deferred revenue on the balance sheet as of July 31, 2011 was $935 million, an increase of 37% on a year-over-year basis.

As of August 18, 2011, salesforce.com is initiating guidance for its third quarter of fiscal year 2012. In addition, the company is raising its prior full fiscal year 2012 revenue guidance and updating its projected full fiscal year 2012 GAAP and non-GAAP EPS guidance previously provided on May 19, 2011.

See you tomorrow.” The exchanges can be kept private, or be shared with other “Toyota Friend” users, as well as made public on Facebook, Twitter and other services, the company said.”

Can you imagine what my ride, Mom’s Taxi (straight outta Toyota City), would say, assuming it could talk? (How about, “Michael, I’m ten years old* – replace me.”)

[Isn't it nice to have SalesForce.com staying in town building a campus down in Mission Bay due to that biotechnology tax exemption championed by non-dull witted political scions like pretty-boy Gavin Newsom and pretty-girl Michela Alioto-Pier? Oh, wait a second, biotech companies like to take all the corporate welfare they can get, you know, so they won't leave town and lay off employees, and then leave town and lay off employees anyway. And SalesForce isn't a biotech company neither. Mmmmm... Let's see here, maybe our local pols, especially the ones who think they know everything because they've gossiped with some Euros in Gstaad once, can't See The Future all that well after all?]

Well let’s see here, now of course, Marc Benioff of Salesforce.com is spending 8 figures to pay for the UCSF Children’s Hospital they’re building at Mission Bay right now.

OTOH, Larry Ellison of Oracle wants us to pay him and give him land so that San Francisco can be forced to watch his little boat race:

[UPDATE: Welcome Salesforcers! I'm just teasing you all, man. Mission Bay was supposed to be About Biotech and the synergy and whatnot. So it would have been nice to have had a Genentech going  large in Mission Bay, but you all are welcome, of course....]

Wow, Salesforce.com must be bullish on San Francisco, based upon today’s big announcement.

“The purchase price for the eight parcels of land, including parking rights in an existing garage and other entitlements and improvements associated with the land, was approximately $278 million. No date for construction has yet been set on the land, which includes the undeveloped portions of Mission Bay lots 26 and 27 and all of Mission Bay lots 29 – 34.

And, bonus, CEO Marc Benioff will be able to visit the Children’s Hospital that he’s building for UCSF right across the street.

Course it would be nicer to have a Genentech in there, but we’ll take what we can get. All the deets, below.

14 Acre Corporate Campus Planned Over The Next Decade; Provides for Almost 2 Million Square Feet of Space

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 1  – Salesforce.com (NYSE: CRM), the enterprise cloud computing company, today announced the purchase of approximately 14 acres of undeveloped land in the Mission Bay neighborhood of San Francisco from Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc. (NYSE: ARE). The company plans to build a facility that will become its new headquarters. The land, which is adjacent to the UCSF campus on one side and the San Francisco Bay on the other, is part of the San Francisco Mission Bay redevelopment area. It is located directly on the San Francisco Muni T line at the UCSF station, and is also directly accessible from the Mariposa Street exit off of 280.

“We are excited to start work on building a new San Francisco global headquarters,” said Marc Benioff, chairman and CEO of salesforce.com. “Our planned, nearly 2 million square-foot campus over 14 acres at Mission Bay will help us continue to attract and retain talented, world-class employees. This new home for salesforce.com will provide an innovative, dynamic environment for our future growth.”

Everybody’s Giving Money to UCSF These Days, So Why Not You Too?

Your kids, don’t give money to them, else it’ll just go up their noses like so many times before, am I right?

So when you decide who deserves your hard-earned, start with UCSF at the top of the list why not?

Now, speak of the devil, UCSF is crowing today about all the money that people are giving them.

Marc Benioff talks about the reasons why he and his wife Lynne are giving $100 million to build a new children’s hospital, which is part of UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay, during a conference in San Jose on June 22:

UCSF Exceeds Philanthropic Goals in Fiscal Year 2010

In the midst of ongoing economic challenges across the globe, UCSF exceeded all of its philanthropic goals for fiscal year 2010. 

For every major target, the University surpassed its objectives – resulting in more than $268 million in private support. This total includes more than 28,000 individual gifts made by nearly 21,000 donors, according to Carol Moss, vice chancellor of University Development and Alumni Relations.

UCSF received a particularly special show of support from alumni, who contributed a remarkable 30 percent more than last year.

“These results signify the incredible dedication of the broader UCSF community, which continues to demonstrate its belief in the University’s mission even in the face of unprecedented adversity,” said UCSF Chancellor Susan Desmond-Hellmann, MD, MPH. 

One of the highlights of 2010 came in June, when Marc Benioff, founder, chairman and CEO of salesforce.com, announced the $100 million philanthropic gift he and his wife Lynne have pledged to UCSF Children’s Hospital.

The Benioffs’ historic donation is both the largest gift the donors have ever made and the largest gift ever granted specifically to the children’s hospital. It is the fourth largest philanthropic gift in UCSF’s history.

The gift will help fund the construction of the new UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital at Mission Bay, part of a 289-bed integrated hospital complex for children, women and cancer patients scheduled to break ground this month.

In fact, philanthropic giving to the $1.5 billion Mission Bay medical center has been robust. Mark Lariat, chief executive officer of UCSF Medical Center, in September announced that the hospitals project has recently received two pledges of $25 million each. These anonymous gifts bring the total raised to $375 million – nearly two-thirds of the fundraising goal of $600 million.

UCSF is historically among the top institutions in the country – private or public – in its ability to attract significant philanthropy. Last year, UCSF’s fundraising results ranked fourth in the country among all public institutions.

For six consecutive years, revenue from private support has surpassed the revenue UCSF receives from state appropriations, making philanthropy an ever more vital piece of UCSF’s $3.3 billion budget.
