OMG, Two Family-Friendly Musical Shows Just Announced for SF: “Stomp” and “How The Grinch Stole Christmas!”

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011

The Grinch or STOMP - take your pick.

I guess I’m calling STOMP a musical:

“STOMP is explosive, provocative, sophisticated, sexy, utterly unique and appeals to audiences of all ages. The international percussion sensation has garnered an armful of awards and rave reviews, and has appeared on numerous national television shows. The eight-member troupe uses everything but conventional percussion instruments – matchboxes, wooden poles, brooms, garbage cans, Zippo lighters, hubcaps – to fill the stage with magnificent rhythms. As USA Today says, “STOMP finds beautiful noises in the strangest places.” STOMP. See what all the noise is about.”

And this one will help us close out 2011:

“Discover the magic of DR. SEUSS’ HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS! The Musical, a production that has delighted thousands of families on Broadway and across the nation. Inspired by Dr. Seuss’ beloved story and featuring the hit songs “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” and “Welcome Christmas,” The Grinch discovers there’s more to Christmas than he bargained for in this heart-warming holiday classic. Max the Dog narrates as the mean and scheming Grinch, whose heart is “two sizes too small,” decides to steal Christmas away from the Whos, an endlessly cheerful bunch, bursting with holiday spirit. The Associated Press says, “This Grinch brings the Dr. Seuss classic fancifully to life – you might find your heart growing a few sizes, too,” and The New York Times says The Grinch Musical is “100 times better than any bedside story.”

Two Special Engagements for 2011!

SAN FRANCISCO (August 23, 2011) – SHN is excited to announce two family friendly special engagements to round out 2011: the return of STOMP and the holiday premiere of Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical. These shows are special engagements and not part of the previously announced SHN 2011-2012 Season.
Both shows go on sale Friday, September 9 at 10 AM.

STOMP
Orpheum Theatre – Oct. 14 – 23

STOMP, the international sensation, is making its triumphant return to San Francisco. The return of the percussive hit also brings some new surprises, with some sections of the show now updated and restructured and the addition of two new full-scale routines, utilizing props like tractor tire inner tubes and paint cans.

Stiff-bristle brooms become a sweeping orchestra; Zippo lighters flip open and closed to create a fiery fugue; wooden poles thump and clack in a rhythmic explosion. STOMP uses everything but conventional percussion instruments – trashcans, tea chests, plastic bags, plungers, boots, and hubcaps – to fill the stage with compelling and infectious rhythms.

Tickets for STOMP range in price for $30 – $60 and will go on sale September 9 at shnsf.com or by calling 888 SHN 1799 (888 746 1799).
