OMG, 49ers Quarterback COLIN KAEPERNICK to Appear at Our Local Costco #144 on Wed, May 14th!

Monday, May 5th, 2014

(Well, here’s the latest on the situation over in Florida that the MusclePharm people were so worried about.)

Now it’s on with the show, the road show, see?

And let’s see what the Yelpers have to say about this particular Costco sto:

“I love Costco! Here’s why..

1.) Best return policy- no questions asked!

2.) Lowest price without compromising the quality.

3.) Health score of 100/100! Beat that!

4.) Best hotdog you can get for only $1.50! That’s including soda.

5.) Costco’s travel deals are the best! Nobody can beat it.

6.) Caucasian guy at the cashier who always wears Hawaiian shirt and speaks like 10 different languages.

7.) Convenient – location, parking etc”

And oh, if I can read the fine print, you can too, but anyway, just saying this whole deal is members only. So if you’re not among the first 300 Costco members in line, you won’t be getting anywhere near CK. (One assumes the MP people* want you to queue up for hours and hours, you know, to create a frisson non?) Fair warning.

*6’1″ and 230 pounds – why do those stats seem familiar? Put me in, coach!

Julian Guthrie, the Oracle for Oracle’s Larry Ellison, Thinks That Larry is “Funding” the America’s Cup – WTF?

Wednesday, July 10th, 2013

Oh poor Larry Ellison!

Apparently, having the taxpayers of San Francisco fund his boat race debacle is taxing his nerves.

Per sycophantic Julian Guthrie:

Larry talked to me candidly about the challenge of working with the city. So if he wins again, I would guess that unless the city comes up with a lot of money to keep the cup here, it’s going elsewhere. Larry’s not going to keep funding it himself. Personally, I can’t imagine that there would be an America’s Cup in San Francisco again.”

Now, does Larry have an official spokesmodel? (I don’t think so. Else Larry might have issued a statement after the death of Andrew Simpson.) So I guess Julian Guthrie is serving in this capacity? OK fine.

Uh, Larry Ellison/Julian Guthrie, don’t you realize that the City of San Francisco is funding the 2013 America’s Cup?

So, Larry Ellison, it’s you who owes us money, not the other way ’round.

That’s Issue One.

Issue Two is this: Julian Guthrie, you’ve ridden this douche canoe so far upriver that you’ve lost touch with reality. You have access, but what have you done with it?

Hey, is San Francisco Really a “Sister City” of Paris, France? No – Was It Before? No, Not At All – Here’s Why

Wednesday, September 26th, 2012

Here’s why:

Seule Paris est digne de Rome; seule Rome est digne de Paris.

Solo Parigi è degna di Roma; solo Roma è degna di Parigi.

Only Paris is worthy of Rome; only Rome is worthy of Paris.

That means that Paris has been “twinned” with Rome in an exclusive sister-city relationship. It’s an “elaborate cultural partnership,” as they say.

So does that mean that Mayor Ed Lie will be lying once again today?

Yep, pretty much.

But you’ve got to realize that things are more or less on autopilot at City Hall these days, so it’s not really his volition.

(And if Willie Brown could get away with something, then Ed Lee should be able to as well, else it’s racist or something.)

Now, here’s what we really have with the City of Light. We have one of these things:

Les pactes d’amitié et de coopération signés par la Ville de Paris

Which in American is “pacts of friendship and cooperation signed by the City of Paris.”

Which, IRL, is rien de bien grave (no biggee). See Below.

IMO, we should be like Dubai, which ID’s itself as a Partner City with Paris.

All right, TTFN. But remember, We’ll Always Never Have Paris.

IRL, Paris, France is friends with just about everybody. The list of partner cities:

2012: San Francisco
2011: Dakar
2011: Sao Paulo, signed an amendment to the Cooperation Agreement of 2004

And in other news, George P. Shultz was a Nixon and Reagan appointee, not a Carter appointee. (You’d be amazed how many people think (or say) he’s a Carter appointee.)

Anywho, ever more deets, including a visit to Le Twitter HQ in the corrupt Twitterloin:

“From September 25 to 28, the mayor of Paris, Bertrand Delanoë, is visiting San Francisco to strengthen ties and cooperation between the two cities.

The mayor of Paris has a full agenda for his stay in California. After a welcome reception at the Consulate of France in San Francisco, he visited two companies Parisoma and Twitter. 27 in the morning, he will go to Parisoma a common workspace, exchange and support for entrepreneurs. Created by the French Stéphane Distinguin, Parisoma accompanied nearly 300 start-up since its inception in 2007.

Bertrand Delanoë must also discover the new headquarters of Twitter in the SoMa district, the famous social network of micro-blogging, along with its CEO Jack Dorsey. With New York, Paris is the city with the most subscribers to his Twitter account, and this year the City of Light became the first in the world to exhibit his tweets in the public space, the place Châtelet.

Paris delegation has always aimed to encourage more trade with San Francisco, mainly on economic and technological. Several meetings with the mayor of this city, Edwin Lee, are well planned and Bertrand Delanoë is expected to sign a memorandum with him, in line with those of 2006 and 2009 to facilitate cooperation. This will be an opportunity to discuss joint projects twinned towns and to consider connections between the research teams.”

All of Nob Hill Shows Up to Greet Jersey Shore’s Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino – The Sitch Classes Up the 415

Monday, November 1st, 2010

Sophisticated San Franciscans of all stripe turned out to welcome Jersey Shore’s Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino to Polk Gulch / Polk Village Saturday evening.

He graced our burg to promote a new line of vodka, a novel product that’s not ridiculous, not ridiculous at all.

We’re left to wonder, “When will He return?”

Jersey Shore’s Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino Might Not be Absurd, But Devotion Vodka Is – Experience Both Tomorrow in SF

Friday, October 29th, 2010

Beth Spotswood is all over this Mike Sorrentino situation, as you might expect since he’s coming to The Jug Shop at 1590 Pacific on Saturday, October 30th at 5:30 PM or 6:00 PM to sign Vodka bottles or something.

Now, you probably already know all that you need to know about him, but here’s a little something about his favorite line of vodka, the one that’s paying him $400K.

Enjoy:

Do you feel that your favorite vodka has enough protein? Well, fret no longer, Devotion Vodka is here. Let’s read the press release together, shall we?

“Devotion Vodka: Get Devoted. THE WORLD’S FIRST PROTEIN INFUSED ULTRA PREMIUM VODKA HITS THE SHELVES IN SAN FRANCISCO, NEW YORK, NEW JERSEY. De-vo-tion Pronunciation [di-voh-shuhn] -noun: Commitment Dedication and Determination.”

Oh, so that’s how you pronounce de-vo-tion. Thanks!

It’s new, it’s you?

“SAN FRANCISCO, — Created in San Francisco, the birthplace of the original martini,

Uh no, you’re thinking of Martinez, CA, way out there in Contra Costa County, and even then you’re still wrong.

“Devotion Spirits is set to unleash the groundbreaking power of the first-ever 80-proof, four column distilled vodka with the benefits of protein that is made in the United States.

What?

“Whether enjoyed on the rocks, mixed, stirred or shaken, Devotion Vodka provides for the smooth, delicious ultra-premium vodka taste discerning mixologists (professional or novice) are seeking. The patent pending proprietary solution found only in Devotion Vodka will transform the cocktail. While bar shelves are cluttered with vodkas from around the globe in every imaginable flavor,

Yep.

“Devotion is the first and only vodka which literally provides a drink with a real protein boost.

Protein? WTF?

“This revolutionary spirit will create a new beverage category, while also defining a new generation of vodka aficionados who devote themselves fully to everything they do in life. Created and developed by company President Drew Adelman, a nightlife, dining aficionado and fitness buff, Devotion Vodka was inspired by his search to combine his two favorite passions: fitness and nightlife.

Fitness and nightlife? Dude, you are a true renaissance man!

“My own personal mantra has always been… if you are going to be bad, you might as well be good,” notes Adelman. “With Devotion Vodka I can stay devoted to my regimen, while stepping out for a good time. I used to actually take my own protein out with me when I went for a night on the town.

Well, of course, you can’t step out without your protein. Natch.

“Then I realized there were millions of people like me who wanted to take care of their bodies and also have a good time. From that passion, Devotion Vodka was born.”

Boozing = taking care of your body. Check.

“In California, Devotion Vodka will be distributed by Young’s Market Company. International Spirits & Wines will be representing Devotion Vodka in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Devotion Vodka will be introduced in a 750 milliliter bottle at a suggested retail price of $29.99. The custom designed bottle made in France is not only distinctive, it is transformational;

Or maybe your bottle isn’t “transformational.” Just saying.

“the frosted glass bottle with the iconic logo and distinguishing red cap will further distinguish the brand and lifestyle that is unique to Devotion Vodka. “I have been in the nightlife industry for many years and I have seen some of the best ideas come through our clubs and restaurants,” notes Bob Jones, co-founder/vice president. “From Red Bull and Rockstar to Voss Water

Perrier from Scandinavia – now that’s pure genius.

“and Alize… all of those brands have a common thread – unique selling points that made them hugely successful. Devotion Vodka is a top-tier vodka product spirit enthusiasts will embrace. I believe Devotion Vodka has an unrivaled brand proposition everyone can understand and appreciate: protein.

I don’t understand/appreciate. Do not copy. Please resend.

“I have no doubt this will be the next big thing in the beverage industry.” “I’m exactly the type of person that Devotion Vodka was made for,” explains actor, athlete and fitness model Sebastian Seigel.

Or “Siegel,” sometimes he spells his name that way. Here’s a tip – whenever you get a funny word from Germany or wherever with the E’s and the I’s, just put the E’s as close together as possible, as in Diesel or Siebel.

“I have known Drew for many years and when he told me of his idea to develop protein-infused vodka, I told him I would be the first person buying a drink at the bar. It is ingenious. For athletes and anyone who takes care of their body and is looking for the best products for their lifestyle, Devotion Vodka has to be the choice.” In order to develop a recipe that would embody his vision, Adelman turned to the distinguished Frank Lin Distillery chemist, Dhir Singh and award-winning spirits chemist, Dr. Win Adler. Devotion Vodka’s proprietary solution

“Solution?” So, the vodka is the solvent and the protein is the solute? Sounds delicious!

“was selected by Singh for the following reasons: Solubility. Clarity. Taste. Feel. Devotion Vodka speaks to the masses.

The way Mussolini did? Neat.

“Its name Devotion shares many of the same attributes of the world’s greatest athletes and success stories: commitment, drive and success. From the stand-out design of the bottle to the unique marketing programs, social media campaigns and targeted outreach to the fitness and body builder communities, Devotion Vodka is both an ultra premium spirit and lifestyle choice. Fans and followers will be inspired by the Get Devoted mantrathat will surround all aspects of the brand. For more information, visit www.devotionvodka.com. Follow Devotion Vodka on Facebook at www.facebook.com/devotionvodka and Twitter at www.twitter.com/devotionvodka. Source: Devotion Vodka Web Site: http://www.devotionvodka.com/ http://www.twitter.com/devotionvodka http://www.facebook.com/devotionvodka

So, vodka + protein = Devotion.

O.K., but what about fat (or the taste of fat, anyway)? Well, in that case, you’re going to need Bakon, the bacon-flavored vodka.

Dreamy Andre Agassi Drops by Town to Promote his New Book

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

San Francisco’s Books, Inc. on Van Ness played host to legendary Andre Agassi a few days back Friday evening to tell the truth about love, tennis and drugs, or something. Certainly, the Financial Samurai was impressed:

“Just shook hands with my idol, Andre Agassi at his “OPEN” book signing in San Francisco! Got 4 books for $125 bucks (ouch). 2 for clients.”

Aren’t new hardcover books like $10 each these days? Oh well. (But if you get Andre the Giant of Tennis to sign your tome, its value increases dramatically, apparently.)

Here’s the cover. Does he have cat eyes?

Does Andre’s book reveal more than he may have intended? Let’s hear from scribe Oindrila Mukherjee:

“Much has been said about how this book is meant to inspire people. The biggest lesson a young fan can get from reading it is that if you’re rich and famous and powerful, in other words, if you’re Andre Agassi, then you can get away with anything. If you get 2 speeding tickets within the hour, the judge will ask for your autograph and let you go. If you snort crystal meth and test positive, you only have to submit a written lie and the ATP with throw out the test results. And anyone who dares to cross you (or worse still, beat you in a tennis match) will have to pay when you write your autobiography.”

Mmmmm.

Anyway, it’s 11-something bucks, your choice.

Our Captain Sullenberger is Getting Dissed from France – Was Sully’s French Plane the Real Hero?

Monday, November 16th, 2009

I don’t know, it seems like writer William Langewiesche, currently residing in France, wants to have it both ways with his new book, Fly by Wire: The Geese, the Glide, the Miracle on the Hudson. He wants to rip on Sully, thusly:

“His performance was a work of extraordinary concentration, which the public misread as coolness under fire. Some soldiers will recognize the distinction.”

“Like it or not, [French pilot Bernard Ziegler] reached out across the years and cradled them all the way to the water.”

But then when Langewiesche gets a little blowback, he folds up like a deck chair, talking about how he’s surprised by Sully’s reaction, and how he’s neither pro- nor anti- fly-by-wire, and how he thinks cockpit automation is merely ”a part of the story,” anyway, of Flight 1549. Well, duh, it’s a part of the story.

But that’s Langewiesche’s “Truth About the Miracle on the Hudson” – that’s it, that’s all there is?

Haven’t read Fly by Wire myself. Probably would rather read it more than Sully’s less-techy book (mostly about the his Search for What Really Matters), which I haven’t read either. Oh well.

sully-copy

Obviously, there are pros and cons to Die by Wire. If William Langewiesche is now going around saying that, as he is, then there’s not much of a dispute anymore, we’ll take solace in the certainly that the bruised egos of French Airbus execs (who want Sully to thank Gaia for Airbus every chance he gets) will heal over time.

I don’t know, pretty cheesy (fromagey?) Monsieur William Langewiesche.

Pretty cheesy.

Captain Sully Sullenberger to Appear at SFO for Book Signing on Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

Monday, October 19th, 2009

East Bay local Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger is back flying for U.S. Airways, but he’s still had time to write a book and go on tour. Sully will be at SFO tomorrow, in case you want to drop by at 11:00 AM. Otherwise, it costs $90k to arrange an appearance these days, so this is a good deal.

After all, Sully is Your Homeboy, right?
