Seen on the Street: If Your San Francisco Parking Space is Only Ten Feet Long, Then This Car is What You Need

Thursday, May 1st, 2014

Something like this, a SmartCar with its rear end NOT jutting over the sidewalk.

I applaud this homeowner:

And the result that this ride is well-protected from those gangs of beer-fueled Smart Car tippers what occasionally turn up in the 415 on Friday and Saturday nights…

Fake San Francisco Transit: SHORT BUS vs. SCHOL BUS – Smart Car ForTwo vs. Hummer H2

Tuesday, October 22nd, 2013

All right now, class. Which bus is the girl bus?

As seen in the Western Addition:

And which is the boy bus?

As seen on Polk near the former German Embassy / controversial cooking school in the Tenderloin:

And which bus is a cry for attention?

You’re all correct! Both of them are.

Does Your Smart Car Have a Pair of Six-inch Long Eyelashes? If Not, Why Not?

The Worst Parkers in San Francisco are the Owners of SmartCars – Why? Their Expectations are Too High

Tuesday, August 16th, 2011

These new SmartCars are parked willy-nilly all over town these days, on the sidewalks, in red zones, wherever.

Why? It’s ’cause some of the drivers of these vehicles think , “I can park anywhere!” (I’m srsly, that’s literally what they’ll tell you. They’re proud.)

So when they get to their destinations, they figure they’ll just make it fit, they’ll find a place.

As here, where a women in the Western Addition NoPA area tried to park three yards of Smart ForTwo into a curb space between two driveways that, well, just take a look:

So, you Smart Car drivers should smarten up and fly straight.

And count your blessings that practices such as Smart Tipping and Smart Tossing haven’t taken root here…

Look at That S-Car Go! Forget About the SmartCar, You Need a Four-Seat 2012 Scion IQ – Coming October 2011

Friday, July 29th, 2011

[UPDATE: Oh, San Francisco Toyota / San Francisco Scion has a clip from Golden Gate Park.]

All I know about the new 2012 Scion IQ is that it’s a total chick-magnet, and that it’s so small it’s going to be perfect for San Francisco.

See?

But I want to talk about the IQ’s distinctive S-curves, so ladies…

…please clear out:

That’s an improvement, but I want people to be able to see the C-pillar

Tres chic,* Euros but…

Oh, here we go. See the S-shape between the side and rear windows? Look at that S-Car go! Zoom zoom.

So that’s how you’ll know you’ve spotted the new Scion IQ and not the old Smart Car.

Now, did you see these little cuties when the international motoring media showed up in the 415 for a test-drive not too long ago? I did. It went a little something like this. (You know, Scion could have picked anywhere in the world, but they chose us. Hurray!)

They’re calling it a 3+1 because the seat behind the driver is the smallest? It’s for “a child or a pet?” All right.

Of course the competing Smart Car is a just a two-seater. And the Smart isn’t made by Toyota, which is, of course, far and away, the best car manufacturer in the world.

In closing, hurray Scion IQ!

All the deets, after the jump.

*You know, I’ve been to a lot of car shows but I’ve never seen car show babe IRL – I must have missed that era. You’ll need to go to the Old World to see an old school car show it would seem.

Snug as a bug in a rug, don’t you think?

Oh, here’s how other people carry their dogs around in Smarts.

Woof woof.

Clever Smart Car Driver Elludes Tickets By Parking Betwixt Yellow and Red Zones in Union Square

Monday, December 27th, 2010

Call this the orange parking strategy, if you want.

Personally, I think  that Smart Car drivers should be able to park wherever and whenever they want.

I mean, they’re always at risk of yet another Smart Car Tipping and that’s no fun at all

The Reason Why San Francisco Loves the ForTwo Smart Car: Easy Parking

Friday, March 6th, 2009

Even a Mini Cooper would have trouble parallel parking in this space, but a red fortwo from smart had no trouble at all. Now the driver has full access to the Clement street shopping district. And it appears to be parked legally, unlike some other smarts in town these days that park 90 degrees the wrong way.

Hurray!

Look for the fortwo in the new movie release The Pink Panther II, starring Steve Martin.

Base-model MSRP is now a bit over $12k – maybe it’s for you.
