For some reason.
I’ll tell you, those canceled protests are oftentimes more interesting than the ones that go forward…
Check it:
“Commercial Office Buildings Missing the Mark in San Francisco’s Efforts to Achieve Zero Waste
Labor, Environmental Leaders to Release Report Outlining How Commercial Office Buildings Can Achieve True Zero Waste by 2020
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – POSTPONED members the BlueGreen Alliance and Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 87 will join with local labor, environmental and civic leaders to release and show support for the report
Making Zero Mean Zero: Waste Diversion in San Francisco’s Commercial Office Buildings.
Findings in the report reveal actions at some of the city’s commercial buildings are hampering the city’s efforts to achieve zero waste and the report outlines recommendations to achieving true zero waste by 2020 — a goal of the city.
The report was prepared by the BlueGreen Alliance — a national partnership of unions and environmental organizations representing 14 million members and supporters.
WHAT: Labor, environmental, and civic leaders call for commercial office buildings owners in San Francisco to reduce waste and increase recycling. The event will feature Spanish speakers.
WHO: BlueGreen Alliance California Director Lisa Hoyos, SEIU Local 87 President Olga Miranda, SEIU Local 87 Members, Supervisor John Avalos (District 11), Interim Supervisor Christina Olague (District 5)
WHEN: POSTPONED
WHERE: In front of San Francisco City Hall”
So, do I think we’re going to have a million electric cars on the road by 2015, as was pledged? Nope!
And do I think that 10% of all trips in San Francisco will be made by bicycle by 2010? Oh, wait, we missed that one already – that got pushed back to 2020, when 20% of all trips made in San Francisco will be made by bicycle, for sure, like totally man, like guaranteed. (And then when that doesn’t happen, the new goal will be 30% of all trips made in San Francisco being made by bicycle by the year 2030.) Anyway, nope!
And now, do I think that all the commercial office buildings of San Francisco will produce “true zero waste” by 2020? Nope!
Anyway, don’t go to City Hall at 11:30 AM tomorrow cause nothing’ll be going on…

(Through all of this, which is unprecedented, really, please remember: “Interim” Mayor Edwin Lee didn’t ask to be short-roped to the summit:
“For her part, Pittman didn’t ask to be short-roped. As she left Camp Four at the front of Fischer’s group, Lopsang abruptly pulled her aside and girth-hitched a length of rope to the front of her climbing harness. Then, without consulting her, he capped the other end to his own harness and began to pull. She maintains that Lopsang hauled her up the slope very much against her wishes. Which begs a question: why didn’t she simply unfasten the three-foot tether connecting her to Lopsang, which would have required nothing more than reaching up and unclipping a single carabiner?“
Moving on…)
Wow, today’s campaign kickoff for the Ed Lee for Mayor campaign, a Rose Pak /Willie Brown joint, went off without a hitch, with yellow-shirted “Ed Heads” heading off in all directions to gather signatures.
See? Hundreds and hundreds there were, it seemed:

Now, is Edwin Lee into the leather scene, on this day before Pride 2011? Oh hells yes, apparently. Taste the rainbow:

And look who’s outside? It’s the leaders of the Ed Lee for Mayor campaign! See them?

Here’s a peek from the sidewalk of Mission Street through the open door. It was packed, baby:

And check it, it’s San Francisco Chronicle reporter* Rose Pak having a chat with Phil Matier. Oh hey, he’s a reporter too!

Oh, here’s what she had to say:
“‘Pretty good, eh?’ Pak said, pointing to the overflow crowd that spilled out onto the sidewalk.”
Leave us depart – almost seemed as if the volunteers were eager to hit the road. (Truth be told, there was no room inside for them to hear the nobodies who were addressing the crowd.)

Step aside Leland Yee, this race has a new front runner!
*Oops, I meant former San Francisco Chronicle reporter….

Do you know these people?
I do, sort of. Anyway, I couldn’t get a thumbs-up from them or anything like that yesterday as they were preparing for today’s big Ed Lee for Mayor 2012-2020 campaign kickoff at South Van Ness and Mission.
(Frankly, they seemed, I don’t know, a little auspicious of me.)

And, I’ll tell you, I’ve seen a lot of campaigns, and, usually, campaign workers are a lot more, I don’t know, cheery.
Oh well.
Anyway, don’t miss out on your chance to collect Run Ed Run! (tambien conocido como Postule Ed, Postule!) ephemera while you can.
Now, which do you prefer?
Happy Ed?

Or angry Ed?

Again: Better A….

or B?

Is being Mayor of San Francisco like being in an Amway pyramid scheme?
You know, Mayor Willie Brown gets reelected easily (back in the 1990′s this was) and then appoints Gavin Newsom, who gets reelected easily, and then appoints Edwin Lee, who gets reelected easily, and then, in 2019, appoints _____, who gets reelected easily, and then…

Note also the reference to your “crew.”
On the other hand, the Spanish version just talks about “otras personas” and “tu grupo.” (That’s not very street at all, huh?)
Wonder how Wu Tang the Chinese language version of this warning message is…

Well it’s still early but there’s already pandemonium on the streets of San Francisco over the Giants winning the World Series 4-1.
As you can see, spectators are already lined up, camped out. The parade and celebration will soon begin.
And Placido Domingo, the greatest opera singer in modern times, is in the house.

Our SFMOMA has an idea about the ideal viewing spot, but I don’t think anyone will be allowed up there but police snipers, prob:

“Clark” and “Lincecum” just came by BART:

If you have to watch over the office while your colleagues join the madding crowd, feel free to take in the action on UStream.
In the meantime, just crank up the Giants-themed smooth reggae from Michael Franti and Spearhead.
Congratulations, GIANTS!
¡Enhorabuena, GIGANTES!

[The Uptown Almanac draws attention to another Gascon video from the same outfit. Is there some volume mixer setting that would render that English-language YouTube video auditorialy legible? And could somebody point me to an event some time in history where David Perry & Associates took our government money and didn't do a half-assed job?]
First thing you do is check out Home for Halloween 2010 – it’s the biggest POS website that nobody looks at AND it’s one that we paid for.
Now, how much did we pay for it? I don’t know. It could be $10k, $20k, $30k, or $40k – the sky’s the limit. But it’s just like something your kid sister could whip up in an evening free of charge while she’s watching the Glee.
Now, how many people actually look at the Home for Halloween website? Well, You Make The Call – the latest numbers are something like a dismal eight visitors (including a fair share of GoogleBots) a day.
You’d think that it would be a lot cheaper to reach a lot more people if the City just placed a simple banner ad on one of the big local sites like SFist or Curbed SF, but you’d be wrong.
Now, here’s where your money goes, into videos with zero production values. Then they get posted on the YouTube, where they get roundly ignored. For example, here’s George Gascon speed reading Spanish muy rapido with his eyes darting back and forth like the methiest of meth heads. It’s mesmerizing in full-screen even if you don’t habla Espanol.
Check it. Aye, I lost me chief to meth:

Now, I saw him at the Costco once and he’s not like this at all in real life. Of course he’s a good sport, but how effective is this effort if NO SPANISH SPEAKERS WATCHED IT SINCE IT WAS UPLOADED TWO WEEKS AGO? It’s getting a grand total of one-third of a viewer per day.
Wasn’t this video just a big fat waste of time for the Chief?
Now, check out famous Akit’s famous website for all the deets.
Oh well.
Where will these Castro Queens go in 2010? Click to expand:

And where will Fake and Real Frank Chu go this year?

And what about Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan? Where will they and their half-billion friends go?

Oh well.

Here’s the latest about the big soccer match coming to town on August 4th. Word comes from Spain saying that the bulk of their famous roster is coming to town. Per Francisco Hernández, Director of Online strategy for Real Madrid C.F.:
“It’s hard to say, but in principle most of the stars will be in the game. This game is not a ‘show game’ but a pre-season game. Do not miss it!”
So we might not get to see all the big stars from R.M.C.F., necessarily, but this will still be a big match.
That’s the latest. See you there!
