Here’s the “Solution” for the Deadly Pedestrian Problem at Trader Joe’s #100 on Masonic – Is It Enough? Maybe

Tuesday, November 12th, 2013

You see this sign? It’s the one you see as you exit TJ’s #100 on Masonic near Geary, assuming you’re not driving or riding.

It was put in as a response to all those shoppers who jaywalk to their cars on the other side of Masonic.

People still jaywalk of course, owing to the ease of parking on the northbound side of Masonic and the difficulty encountered trying to park in the TJ’s lot.  (There’s a lot of history here on this example of bad planning.)

Did I call for this sign? Yes I did. So it’s good that it’s there now. It wasn’t there a couple of years ago, so good on you, SFGov.

But can SFGov and TJ’s do more? Sure. Hey, why don’t the Powers That Be take the opportunity revisit this whole situation before others kill themselves?

Right? I mean I’m not talking politically, ’cause the politics part of getting a new gro sto here is already done. But, you know, morally.

Just asking.

Moving on…

Now here’s an example of people actually taking the several minutes required to get back to their cars by walking down to Geary and waiting for the four-way signal.

This gal here broke from her shopping group to jaywalk while her friends did things the legal way.

(Until this, I’ve never noticed a person not  jaywalking,)

So here she is, sitting pretty whilst waiting for her friends, exulting in her ability to not get hit by a car on this occasion:

I don’t notice this kind of scene as much these days so that’s good.

That’s the update.

Build It And They Will Come: New City Target Store at Geary and Masonic is a Huge Success – And It’s So Big

Monday, October 14th, 2013

Well, you know, the rich, home-owning, millionaire NIMBY ladies of NOPNA (the number one homeowner’s association in the Western Addition) had steam coming out of their ears a few years back when they realized how hopeless their plan of keeping Tar-ghey from infecting their “NoPA” neighborhood was becoming.

Good times.

Oh well.

Mervyn’s Heights is now Target Tor and NoPA (North of the Panhandle) is now SoTA (South of Target). See?

Lots of produce here – a surprising amount.

And the amount of traffic is up, way up. Just like people said would happen. We’ll have to see how things shake out. I myself saw a fender bender on Masonic that prolly wouldn’t have occurred but for the Target Grand Opening yesterday.

Oh, and the traffic lights have been jiggered with, for better or worse. These days, peds at Masonic and Anza need to wait for a looong red light and then after that they need to wait for southbound traffic to turn left. In effect, the peds are going “last.” This kind of thing was considered unacceptable by the SFBC down at Masonic and Fell not too long ago. Mmmm…

Anyway, I can’t figure why some chain stores in SF are good and others are bad – I can’t find consistency in Planning is what Im saying,

But here it is.

Enjoy.

Expect more, pay less.

“JACK OFF 16TH STREET” – Performance Artist Chicken John Rinaldi to Protest at the Jack Spade Site This Friday Night

Thursday, October 10th, 2013

All the deets:

For immediate “release”

Chicken John and friends to “JACK OFF” 16th Street!

San Francisco, CA – To demonstrate their objection to chain stores like Jack Spade trying to take root in the Mission, San Francisco showman Chicken John Rinaldi and a collection of friends and followers are planning to “JACK OFF” in front of the chain store’s proposed location this Friday night.

“We promise to jack off until we fill the streets with semen!” Chicken John said, about what may be the world’s largest masturbatory action to end gentrification.  Participants are willing to risk indecent exposure to support the principle of a Mission district without chain stores.

According to Rinaldi, an ocean of male semen could help wash away the sin of gentrification once and for all.

“We, the people of the Mission District demand that Jack Spade pull out of their venture to open on 16th street. They are not wanted here. We are ready and willing to go to extreme lengths to soil their brand,” he said.

JACK OFF 16TH STREET will take place Friday, Oct. 11, at 8 p.m., in front of 3166 16th Street.

Fashion Update: How to Get $90 Lucky Brand Jeans at Costco for Just $17, Sort Of – The Miracle of “Urban Star”

Wednesday, October 9th, 2013

All right, work with me here, people. Them stretchy 361 Vintage Straight jeans from Lucky Brand go for $90, right?

Or you can get them at the Lucky Outlet for like $60 or so. The outlet version has a different button but otherwise it’s the real deal.

Or you can get that very same outlet version at Costco #144 for like $36.

Now here’s the kicker. Costco also sells “Urban Star” jeans that are the same exact thing, pretty much, for just $16-something.

Look at the pockets – Lucky in the background, Urban Star in the foreground:

(Or you can get Urban Star from a reseller at Amazon for $25.)

So this means that the markup for Lucky is like 500%?

News to me.

Anyway, I guess what I’m saying is that, just as Soylent Green is people, Urban Star is Lucky Jeans.

ABERCROMBIE HOT, ABERCROMBIE NOT – Raging at the Madding Crowd Near 5th and Market – Intervention a Kindness?

Tuesday, June 11th, 2013

Yes, official intervention would be kindness to this raging woman, who was attracting stares from hundreds of tourists near Union Square the other day.

But then she’d only get sprung with a quickness.

So what’s the problem?

Is it our local, state and national laws?

Or the way we enforce them?

Both?

Oh well
