This was the scene down on MACALLISTER Street in the Western Addition PJs last year, on govmint land of course.

…and here’s the same scene these days:

Let’s see here:
“When flags of states, cities, or localities, or pennants of societies are flown on the same halyard with the US flag, the US flag should always be at the peak.”
NOPE! Believe it or not, that rat tail you can see at bottom is our Stars and Stripes. Above it is the flag of the State of California. (You can still see the bear a little bit.)
“The flag may be displayed twenty-four hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness.”
NOPE!
“The flag should never be fastened, displayed, used, or stored in such a manner as to permit it to be easily torn, soiled, or damaged in any way.“
NOPE!
I could go on…
There’s a little black spot on the sun today
It’s the same old thing as yesterday
There’s a black hat caught in a high tree top
There’s a flag pole rag and the wind won’t stop

Well here’s the statement:
“The San Francisco Housing Authority does not transfer any family to any particular apartment, community, neighborhood or development because of race, color, sex, religion (creed), disability, familial status, national origin, ancestry, sexual orientation, marital status, source of income, or age.”
Of course it’s not true, but that’s the statement.
The point of it is to discourage transfer requests, that’s true.
But they could have phrased it differently, that’s all.

This area is about six blocks from San Francisco City Hall.
Here’s the exact same pair of flags from three years ago, would you agree?

And the DRUG FREE ZONE warning sign is still there as well. (But, of course, this isn’t actually a drug-free zone. Not in the least.)
Oh well.
So, why do we even have flagpoles then?
Perhaps putting them in was a bad idea? Perhaps it’s easier to put in a flagpole than to take care of a flagpole over its lifetime? Perhaps we should take these flagpoles down if this how City, County, State and/or Federal officials are handling things?
Perhaps Redevelopment of the Fillmore was a bad idea?
Perhaps other federally-funded projects, such as the useless Central Subway, are bad ideas as well?
Mmmmm.

Please point me to something else in the world what looks like this, on JFK westbound in front of the Conservatory of Flowers.
Here’s what you do, you get a car and then drive west from Stanyan.* And then you think, “Why is my body closer to the left side of the road than the right?”

Simply, this is a mess.
Could maybe a traffic engineer take a look at this design? You know, at some point?
Note the absence of a stop line for bikes next to the stop sign. I think that’s on purpose…
Oh well.
*Speaking of Stanyan and JFK Drive, there needs to be a traffic signal at the east end of JFK where it intersects with Kezar Drive. Maybe someday…

Click on over to the Market Street Railway Blog to see what’s up with our shiniest Presidents’ Conference Committee streetcar
Check it:
“F-line PCC streetcar No. 1057, painted in tribute to Cincinnati, is known to many of its fans as “The Bumblebee” because of its eye-popping yellow paint and stripes (admittedly dark green instead of a bee’s black). Well, now it’s even more eye-popping following a renovation by Muni’s maintenance team, including an entirely new roof, body repairs, and a complete repainting.”
Fresh paint:

The Muni maintenance team who restored and repainted Cincinnati PCC No. 1057. Top row (L-R): Steve Chu, Carole Gilbert, Arthur Leary, Willie Alexander, Khalil Ali, Leon Bernal, Ontoniel Granados, Patrick Louie, Jose Granados, Alfredo Solis, Raul Alvarez, George Bernal, Peter Kuang, Dick Wie Shi Lui, Priscilla Steuban. Bottom row (L-R): Karl Johnson, Joselito Viernes, Arvin Camposagrado, Carlos Montez, Robert Donahue, Gino Ganoza.
Look for its icon soon here, on the live map.
Hurray!

Here’s the scene in Civic Center Plaza these days, with the easternmost flag having trouble recently. (There’s a flagpole rag and the wind won’t stop.)
Not sure what’s going on, maybe something wore out or maybe somebody’s making a statement:
