Hurray! The Memphis Minnie’s “Big Pig” Van is Back on the Road, After Being “Destroyed” in a Giants Victory Riot on Haight

Tuesday, May 21st, 2013

Remember when our San Francisco Giants won the World Series the time before last?

It was back in 2010. Good times. I celebrated by climbing on top of the Memphis Minnie’s Barbeque Joint And Smokehouse Ford van parked on the street in the Lower Haight.

There I was, looking fierce bouncing up and down in my little black dress and orange pumps, along with bunch of other people.* We few, we Band of Brothers, we Baseball Furies.

Anyway, as the above link to Haighteration shows, the Big Pig, she got messed up.

But here she is back on the road in 2013, wavy roof panels and all:

I don’t know, I think this ride is worth more than it would have been without the battle scars from aught-ten.

I think this rig is now a historic artifact worthy of preservation.

Keep on keeping on, Memphis Minnie’s.

*Oh, not really. Actually, after watching on a friend’s big screen (’cause I don’t I have cable ’cause I want the Comcast monopoly to die die die) I had to ride my bike on up to Pac Heights. The city was electric, all over, not just in the Mission and in the Haights.

What’s This? You Can Buy Beer at the Chipotles in Metreon on Fourth Near Mission? Well, There’s Goes the Neighborhood!

Wednesday, October 17th, 2012

I’ll tell you, I don’t have strong feelings either way about Chipotle’s. It’s like whatever, dude.

But check it, Chipotle’s is selling beer in SoMA on a LIQUOR LICENSE PENDING basis?

I’m as shocked as you are:

Now isn’t alcohol something people don’t want sold so close to Tenderloin Housing Clinic Beyond Chron-editing poverty pimp Randy Shaw’s corrupt Twitterloin / Skid Row North / “Uptown”* Tenderloin?

I thought so but now I don’t know.

Anyway, these days we have a place what sells fast food and beer together, just like a French McDonalds or whatever.

Oh, here’s what I could dig up on any liquor license application. It aint much.

Hey, remember the Redevelopment Agency? Here’s their No Irish Need Apply announcement from back in the day:

“Request for proposal for General Contractor Services for tenant-improvement build-out of a quick-serve kiosk restaurant, San Francisco Soup Company, in the food court of the Metreon, located on the ground floor at 135 4th St., San Francisco, CA 94103.

San Francisco Soup Company will select an applicant following staff’s evaluation of the bids, Statements of Qualifications and oral interviews.

This opportunity is open to all businesses, both for-profit and non-profit. Applicants and SFRA certified Minority and Women-owned Business Enterprise are strongly encouraged to apply. Be advised that the SF Soup Company and SF Redevelopment Agency are committed to vigorous equal opportunity employment.”

All right, enjoy.

*Uptown. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Testify, Randy:

By the summer of 2008, going “uptown” in San Francisco will mean heading to the Tenderloin.”

Cheese and rice, Randy Shaw. What color is the fucking sky in your world?

OMG, Popular Brenda’s French Soul Food is Now Open for Dinner on a Safe Block in the Otherwise Crime-Ridden Tenderloin

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011

Will popular, four-star rated Brenda’s French Soul Food be as popular for dinner as it’s been for breakfast, brunch, and lunch?

Only Time Will Tell.

As recently seen on Polk, near the western fringe of the crime-ridden Tenderloin. Criminals tend to not like crowds of potential witnesses, so dread nought.

Why not get in line at 652 Polk betwixt Eddy and Turk, dine and then make a post to the Yelp, as thousands have before you?

Tonight’s MATCHA at The Asian: Shaolin Temple Tiger-Style Kung Fu. Tiger-Style, Baby!

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

These days, if you don’t have young people and DJs mingling about your museum on Thursday or Friday nights, you isn’t a museum. So, just as the California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park has NightLife and the de Young has Friday Nights at the de Young, our Asian Art Museum has nighttime MATCHA. And, bonus, if you go tonight, February 18th, 2010, you can also see Shanghai.

“2010 is the Year of the Tiger! MATCHA kicks off the Lunar New Year and special exhibition Shanghai with dynamic tiger-style kung fu (martial art) demonstrated by Shaolin Temple USA monks. Each mode of Shaolin kung fu is associated with an animal, and in Chinese culture, the tiger is king and symbolizes bravery. Its kung fu style involves footwork, acrobatic kicks, and unique fist positions, relying solely on internal power, simplicity, and explosive force. The evening also includes art activities (make your own good luck poster), Shanghai dumplings available for purchase in the museum cafe, cash bars, music by DJ Friendly Traveler, docent conversations, gallery tours of SHANGHAI, and mingling and merriment with friends!”

See you there.

The “fourth room” of the Shanghai exhibit:

“See SHANGHAI in its opening week. This epic exhibition explores, through the mirror of its art, the tumultuous history that has resulted in one of the world’s most dynamic and cosmopolitan cities.

In San Francisco, You Aren’t Cool If Your Bicycle Handlebars are Too Wide

Friday, November 20th, 2009

Note that these handlebars have room for hands, brake levers and a bell – I think that they can be chopped a bit more, don’t you?

Still, the slim look is handy for getting around buses and traffic ‘n stuff.

Bravo.
