Intensities in Tent Cities: OccupySF Daycamp Comes to Sue Bierman Park – SFPD Watches Tents Go Up and then Come Down

Sunday, December 18th, 2011

This was the scene last night in Sue Bierman Park just north of Justin Herman Plaza. Can you see all the tents?

People were marching in support of Bradley Manning, but just after 5:00 PM or so the Occupy tents started going up.

Then the 8:00 PM closing time for the park came along so the tents started coming down. (San Francisco officials want to make sure they don’t “pull a Quan,” of course.)

Peter Pan is Fantastic – A Must See-Show Inside the Big White Tent Near the Ferry Building

Monday, May 10th, 2010

Long-awaited Peter Pan has been showing for couple of weeks already, but last night became the official premiere owing to the fact that May 9th was the 150th birthday of writer J. M. Barrie. Everybody there, including District 4 Supervisor Carmen Chu, District 1 Supervisor Eric Mar, KGO-7 View from the Bay’s Janelle Wang and famous photographer Bill Wilson, seemed to be having a great time anyway.

The circular CGI works, the puppets work, the flying works – it all works. You can’t beat this for $30* of live entertainment. It’s a show for kids of course, but most adults should have no problem getting into it as well. (Didn’t see no cranky, protesting I-never-leave-home NIMBY types nor cranky I-never-should-leave-home Yelper types yesterday myself, so that’s good.)

Everybody loves the whimsical Croc. Tick tock:

There’s not a really bad seat in the house - it’s what you call intimate with even the nosebleeds placed pretty close to the stage. Here’s the view from Block B. Block A is to the right and Blocks D and E are on the other side of the stage. Note the giant oculus above the giant CGI screens.

And there’s candy, candy, candy available at the Fairyland Candy Shop:

And, of course:

Throw in a sexy, in-shape knife-wielding princess and a couple of sexy, in-shape Cirque du Soleil-style mermaids and there you go.

Oh, and speaking of NIMBIES, it turns out they were crying over nothing.

HUGEBRANE Ugly white plastic tent thing where a beautiful open space park had been. I’ll be glad when this monstrosity is gone. Fortunately, it’s not generating the noise I thought it would.”

(Note the handle.) So all that hue and cry over the Rec and Park Department making a few bucks was over nothing, it turns out. Moving on….

See you there!

(Try ordering a Peter Panini (smoked ham, brie, granny smith apples, wild arugula and local honey) just for the lulz. You don’t even need a ticket to wander about the village.)

*And up.

All the deets, including casting, after the jump.

Peter Pan and a 360-Degree CGI Set Coming to San Francisco on April 27th, 2010

Friday, November 20th, 2009

[UPDATE: Box offices are open now in San Francisco - the one with no fees is by Embarcadero Station. And, it's a hit! Check it.]

Starting April 27th, 2010 down by San Francisco’s Ferry Building you’ll be able to see a live-action performance of Peter Pan with 22 actors inside a huge tent that will have projections on its walls. It’s new-school theatre in the round. You know, for kids

Check the video, see what you think. The whole shebang will run seven shows a week until July 4th at Embarcadero Plaza at the foot of Washington Street. Just go to Embarcadero and Market Street and look for the big white tent at Ferry (or is it Fairy?) Plaza (aka Sue Bierman Park) - you wont be able to miss it.

Tickets on sale now. It’s going to be mega.

Here’s what it will look like:
