By “new” I mean new to me, as they’ve been out for a while now.

Have I mentioned yet that MUNI sucks? Forgive me.*

Bonus: Also included in the delivery was a limited edition of SIDE WALKS:

“The San Francisco Museum at the Mint in collaboration with the North of Market/Tenderloin Community Benefit District presents “Neighbors,” fifty environmental portraits by Troy Holden as a photographic essay of the Tenderloin, South of Market, and Mid-Market neighborhoods. “Side Walks” is a collection of photographs made in downtown San Francisco by Bay Area photographers Chris Beale, Brian Reynaldo Cayetano Jr., Brandon Doran, Troy Holden, David Root and Oscar Santos.”

All the deets:

Side Walks” and “Neighbors”: Show is open through Aug. 17; reception (free admission) 6-9 p.m. next Thursday. 1-4 p.m. Sundays. $10. San Francisco Museum at the Mint, 88 Fifth St., S.F. (415) 537-1105. www.sfhistory.orgTo watch a short video go to: http://bit.ly/1ovCiGD.

See you there!

*IMO, it’s important to point out that “MUNI Sucks” (or something similar, you know, something pithy) right at the beginning whenever the SFMTA or MUNI is the topic at hand. Acknowledging this fact from the get-go tends to make the ensuing conversation more productive. Of course, the SFMTA won’t ever shower you with taxpayer money if you even just once point out that MUNI sucks, but at least you’ll avoid being like these people:

“…lately. seriously, we haven’t received many (if any) “muni sucks/fuck muni” posts or emails…”

Now if you really want to cheer lead for MUNI, make sure you’re getting a $200,000 annual pay package first – that’s the way you do it.

Painful Press Release of the Week: “SF-Made Amour Vert Stays Close To Home For Its First Retail Store” – $130 T-Shirts?

Monday, June 30th, 2014

[UPDATE: Oh, what I meant to say was:

"Local womenswear brand Amour Vert is a favorite for its combination of California cool with French chic—all with a major eco-conscious stamp of sustainability."

OK fine!]

Here you go, here’s your new T, straight outta “up-and-coming” Hayes Valley:

You see, it’s made out of rayon. Check it.

Here’s your release:

“San Francisco-Made Amour Vert Stays Close To Home For Its First Retail Store

SAN FRANCISCO, June 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Contemporary eco-fashion brand, Amour Vert is happy to announce the opening of its first retail store in its home city of San Francisco. With all garments made and designed within a 20 mile radius, the store is the latest addition to the up and coming Hayes Valley neighborhood.

Amour Vert’s retail space reflects their commitment to sustainability. The environmentally conscious store features ecological ingredients and co-founders, Christoph Frehsee and Linda Balti employed local contractors and local interior design stores to bring the eco-forward store to life. Bringing the environment indoors, a focal point of the store will be a living wall, which the brand is installing with the help of San Francisco native, model and philanthropist, Lily Kwong. The wall will serve as a nod to “green love” – the English translation of the brand’s French name.

About Amour Vert

Based on the principal that women shouldn’t have to sacrifice style for sustainability, Amour Vert proves that it is possible to be both fashionable and environmentally responsible. Using the highest quality organic and sustainable fabrics, Amour Vert, offers style and fashion as well as one of the softest t-shirts in the world. Taking its commitment to the environment seriously, the company developed its T(r)EE program, in partnership with American Forests®, planting a tree in America for every purchase of an Amour Vert t-shirt. Based in San Francisco, Amour Vert’s products are all hand made in California.”

I’ll tell you, I don’t know how our Austrian “neighbors” make fancy “eco-forward” rayon, but here’s how you make regular rayon. Enjoy:

  • Cellulose: Production begins with processed cellulose
  • Immersion: The cellulose is dissolved in caustic soda: (C6H10O5)n + nNaOH → (C6H9O4ONa)n + nH2O
  • Pressing: The solution is then pressed between rollers to remove excess liquid
  • White Crumb: The pressed sheets are crumbled or shredded to produce what is known as “white crumb”
  • Aging: The “white crumb” is aged through exposure to oxygen
  • Xanthation: The aged “white crumb” is mixed with carbon disulfide in a process known as Xanthation, the aged alkali cellulose crumbs are placed in vats and are allowed to react with carbon disulfide under controlled temperature (20 to 30 °C) to form cellulose xanthate: (C6H9O4ONa)n + nCS2 → (C6H9O4O-SC-SNa)n
  • Yellow Crumb: Xanthation changes the chemical makeup of the cellulose mixture and the resulting product is now called “yellow crumb”
  • Viscose: The “yellow crumb” is dissolved in a caustic solution to form viscose
  • Ripening: The viscose is set to stand for a period of time, allowing it to ripen: (C6H9O4O-SC-SNa)n + nH2O → (C6H10O5)n + nCS2 + nNaOH
  • Filtering: After ripening, the viscose is filtered to remove any undissolved particles
  • Degassing: Any bubbles of air are pressed from the viscose in a degassing process
  • Extruding: The viscose solution is extruded through a spinneret, which resembles a shower head with many small holes
  • Acid Bath: As the viscose exits the spinneret, it lands in a bath of sulfuric acid, resulting in the formation of rayon filaments: (C6H9O4O-SC-SNa)n + ½nH2SO4 → (C6H10O5)n + nCS2 + ½nNa2SO4

Craigslist to Sponsor Bay to Breakers 2013 – All the Deets – Conservative Denver Billionaire + Craig Newmark = ???

Wednesday, April 3rd, 2013

Observations:

1. Hey, does christian activist Phillip Anschutz still own AEG? I think so. And AEG still owns the Bay to Breakers civic street party and fun run? And Obama donor Craig Newmark / Craigslist just made a sponsoring deal with B2B? How does that square? I mean, I’m seeing “April 1st, 2013″ here. Am I missing something? You pay money to advertise a job on craigslist and it goes to Mr. Burns IRL in Colorado so he can use it to attack the concept of evolution? Mmmm…

2. Here’s something – one time Craig Newmark had to admonish “craigslist CEO Jim Buckmaster” for celebrating the vandalization of my Toyota after it got messed up on Ashbury. That was a like a decade ago, just saying. Ill tell you, that Jim Buckmaster isn’t your typical wealthy millionaire CEO-type. Anyway, it cost me $200 and State Farm like $2600, oh well.

3. Back before Google semi-censored naughty images, this shot here was the number image result in Google Images when people searched for the phrase Bay to Breakers. The problem was that a local money-making sports website claimed it as its own. That was going too far, IMO. Had to put my foot down on that one.

Good times on Fell Street:

OMG, They Made a Movie About the AC Transit Bus Fight – On Netflix Now – Entitled “Bad Ass” – $$ for Epic Beard Man?

Tuesday, July 10th, 2012

This incident in the East Bay a few years back…

…has been made into a movie called Bad Ass:

Which I guess is old news.

But the new news is that you can watch this flick for free now via the NetFlix.

It’s just released. See?

“This movie is: Exciting”

(But, sorry streamer-only NetFlix people, right now you can only have them mail you the DVD or the Blu-Ray – you can’t just stream this to your device.)

And no, I don’t think Vietnam Tom Bruso, or anyone else on the bus that day…

…will get a dime out of Bad Ass.

That’s Tinseltown for you…

27th Annual Run Wild For A Child 5K and 10K a Huge Success in Golden Gate Park

Sunday, November 27th, 2011

Run Wild for a Child 2011 went off without a hitch today in Golden Gate Park.

It’s sort of like the Bay to Breakers annual civic event, except Run Wild isn’t owned by some hung-up, Burnsian, “Christian Billionaire” what lives in Colorado and uses your B2B entry fee to fight the concept of evolution. (How refreshing.)

Anyway, today’s 5K race was 3053 vs. 1729 leading most of the way through. One of these guys won, you’d think.

Is this Fell? I can’t really tell:

Here’s Oak, anyway:

As you can see, this race swings both ways, with 5K and 10K runners facing each other at times:

Monkey butts?

All right, see you next year!

Oh No, Off-Message! “Run, Ed, Run” Campaign Ephemera at First Ed Lee for Mayor Rally – “I’m an Ed Head!”

Thursday, August 11th, 2011

[UPDATE: Oh, Rebecca Bowe was there as well. Apparently, organizers actually were embarrassed to have the support of these Run-Ed-Run Ed Heads.]

Here’s today’s big rally for the Ed Lee for Mayor campaign at the Ella Hill Hutch this afternoon, with Supervisor Carmen Chu as the draw:

I guess they wanted photos and video for the campaign.

But what’s this – Run, Ed, Run? Ed Heads? I’m an Ed Head? Isn’t this off-message?

It sure the Hell is!

I wandered over to Fulton Street to check out the maniacal Joanna Rees supporters (geez, how much are they getting paid per hour?) getting ready for tonight’s big debate and during that time the animated Ed Heads were dispatched with extreme prejudice, never again to be seen.

And the yellow XL T-shirt, one that helped put poor, poor Enrique Pearce almost $20k into debt, was removed to be stuffed into a pocket:

And who’s this guy with the blue chalk stripes?

Is he like the T-Rex from Jurassic Park? Or a Giant Madagascar Chameleon? Or something:

“They can rotate and focus separately to observe two different objects simultaneously, this lets their eyes move independently from each other. It in effect gives them a full 360-degree arc of vision around their body.”

[UPDATE: Mystery solved:

This is a shoebox full of hacks desperately trying to look important. Especially the bald whiteys. Lookin at you, Winnicker! #SFMayor]

O.K. then.
