The Nihonmachi Street Fair is back for 2010. See?

That’s 1600 Webster there on the left, it’s that condo building that’s still under double secret probation due to some problems the past couple years. We’ll have to wait and see if they get a security guard to nap in front of the Webster entrance for a couple shifts the way it happened last year. (It’s like Del Boca Vista Phase III got plopped down on the corner.)

(And actually, the Starbucks they wanted to put in the empty retail space downstairs would have been a mega bonus for J-Town, but the local NIMBYs shot that idea down. You know, big ugly nonreinforced concrete was ala mode back in the 1950′s and 1960′s and that’s when those ridiculous mall buildings started getting built. That’s why Japantown looks like am uninviting windblown ghost town from Post Street even when there are lots of people bustling about in the malls. Replacing the low-rise buildings on the right of the photo, including the hidden underground parking garage, will be an expensive, long, drawn-out process. Anywho…)

The Peace Plaza open its arms out to welcome the Island Spirit through music and dance. Halaus from the Bay as well as special guests from Hawaii and Southern California will gather this weekend at the Peace Plaza stage.
