Remember when our San Francisco Giants won the World Series the time before last?
It was back in 2010. Good times. I celebrated by climbing on top of the Memphis Minnie’s Barbeque Joint And Smokehouse Ford van parked on the street in the Lower Haight.
There I was, looking fierce bouncing up and down in my little black dress and orange pumps, along with bunch of other people.* We few, we Band of Brothers, we Baseball Furies.
Anyway, as the above link to Haighteration shows, the Big Pig, she got messed up.
But here she is back on the road in 2013, wavy roof panels and all:

I don’t know, I think this ride is worth more than it would have been without the battle scars from aught-ten.
I think this rig is now a historic artifact worthy of preservation.
Keep on keeping on, Memphis Minnie’s.
*Oh, not really. Actually, after watching on a friend’s big screen (’cause I don’t I have cable ’cause I want the Comcast monopoly to die die die) I had to ride my bike on up to Pac Heights. The city was electric, all over, not just in the Mission and in the Haights.

First, our PacBell Building in SoMA was all like this.
Then is was all like this.
Now it’s all like this, so you can see through entire floors.
Say hello to the higher floors of a totally gutted building:

If only San Francisco were the Innovation Capital of the World or something, then we wouldn’t have a bunch of empty buildings sitting around for years and decades.

Look at this monster perched high atop 140 New Montgomery Street, up there with all those Neo-Gothic eagle statues.
Reminds of when Devastator climbed up one of those pyramids in that Transformers II movie…

Anyway, the abandoned Pac Bell building no longer looks like it belongs in Detroit, so that’s good.
Look for Yelp to move in this year, directly under the enemy’s scrotum.
“The PacBell Building or 140 New Montgomery Street in San Francisco’s South of Market district is a Neo-Gothic, 132.6 m (435 ft) office tower located close to the St. Regis Museum Tower and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.[1] The 26-floorbuilding was completed in 1925 and was San Francisco’s first significant skyscraper development when construction began in 1924.[1] The building was the tallest in San Francisco until the Russ Building matched its height two years later in 1927″

How would you like to volunteer as a docent helping out with the new-school / old-school E-line on October 6-7, 2012?
First, some background about how busy the 415 will be this weekend:
“Looking at what’s scheduled for that weekend, there might not be room in the city for many more people, much less cars. First, there’s the free Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in Golden Gate Park, a three-day event that drew about 800,000 people last year. That Sunday afternoon, the 49ers play the Buffalo Bills at Candlestick Park, while the Giants are hoping for weekend playoff games at AT&T Park, all guaranteed sellouts. About 60,000 people typically attend the Castro Street Fair, scheduled for that Sunday, while thousands more will jam North Beach for the annual Italian Heritage Parade at 12:30 on the same day. A different crowd will probably be at the Burning Man Decompression street fair, also that Sunday afternoon. To add to the fun, two mega cruise ships are expected to dock at Pier 35 over the weekend, disgorging thousands more tourists. Then, of course, there’s Fleet Week, which brings thousands of sailors and as many as a million visitors to the waterfront for the weekend.”
So you’ll be needed to help out all the visitors moving around on the Twin Torpedos, streetcars 1006 and 1008:
“We need several more docents to work the stops along the E-line on October 6 and 7, helping riders find the right platform and providing information about the service. We have docent books prepared by Paul Lucas, so it’s easy to learn what to do. If you’re interested, send us an email and we’ll get back to you.”

Here’s what you can seen across the street from the former Bank of America World Headquarters at 555 California betwixt Kearny and Montgomery in the Financh.
OMG, On My Guard:

That’s right, it’s the art at the top of 580 California:
The postmodern, 107 m (351 ft), 23 story tower is … is topped with twelve statues described as “The Corporate Goddesses” by Muriel Castanis on the twenty-third floor.”
The LA Times calls these twelve statures “faceless rooftop wraiths.”
Yep.
Avert your gaze.
But these workers inside 580 have no choice:
Pray for them.
Courage.

An ideal nesting site high above the Polk Street Steps, don’t you think?
It’s protected from the rain and wind and of course there are plenty of rats scurrying about City Hall these days, non?

This new nest matches the other one the Polk Side has.

This top-slewing tower crane is all it takes to move the stuff necessary to build 525 Golden Gate Avenue, your new SF PUC building.
But the poor operator has nobody to talk with on the job.
