OMG, Saturday Was Move-In Day 2014 at the University of San Francisco – The Great Tow-Away on Fulton

Monday, August 18th, 2014

If you ask me, Fulton should have traffic signals in the USF area. But nobody asked me, so what our horrible SFMTA did recently instead of that was to take out a couple lanes.

So now this stretch of has a lower capacity in exchange for a dubious stab at increased safety.

Anyway, this is new on me, but it looks like Fulton can no longer handle annual USF Move-In Day without it being a big event complete with cars getting towed, with extreme prejudice.  Ivan Valladares has the details:

I saw around 20 cars getting towed away this morning on Fulton street, I’m sure it was more then that, just because students were moving in to SF STATE [sic] and were exclusively using the right lane to line up. This city sucks.”

Here it is, complete with home-made signs directing traffic:

Later in the day, the owner of this minivan parked at what’s normally a legal space for about ten minutes but then got swarmed by the popo with a quickness:

The Languid, Sexy Baseball Furies of Fulton Street: Physical Graffiti at Barrel Head Brewhouse Near Masonic

Tuesday, July 1st, 2014

First she was all like this, back last year when the Barrel Head Brewhouse was going in at 1785 Fulton Street. A spontaneous act of street art, apparently:

But now she’s all like this, taken off of the street and placed indoors upstairs at the Brewhouse.

Note that the formerly-censored(?) bloodied bat has been restored. (That’s what makes her a Fury, IMO.)

Imagine that – the journey from street crime to high art took merely a half-year…

Ask these people where they got the sign and they’ll tell you all about France and where their kids are going to college.

I’ll bet.

Look Forward to Bocce or Volleyball on Masonic Avenue, But There are Signs of Rebellion Against City Plans

Friday, October 1st, 2010

Uh oh, for the first time at one of these Masonic Avenue meetings in the Western Addition, I met people who are pissed at the whole process. And these are people who are nearby residents.

(Whenever the City gets around to doing outreach with the stakeholders who currently use Masonic, well, there could be some more opposition still.)

Get some of the deets of last night’s meeting over at The Square website (but keep in mind the dollar amounts mentioned there are off by three orders of magnitude).

A good 140 people or so at a local prep school (it’s like Hogwarts but more expensive and less magical) last night:

The Reason Why It’s a Little Patronizing to Print Towaway Signs in Japanese on Sutter Street

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

These temporary towaway signs for a stimulus project on Sutter Street near Octavia are close enough to Japantown I suppose, but the idea that it’s remotely possible that this translation would be of any use to any driver is laughable.

It’s a nice gesture, though, I suppose.

But, as stated, it’s a little patronizing…

Just Try to Read This Official Car Towaway Notice From the City of San Francisco

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Come on, you can do it. Take a gander at the dollar amount of the fine for abandoning your car on the streets of San Francisco. Let’s agree that dollar amount has two digits, but it is $75? $85? $88? $98? $80? $90?

This is no mere triviality - if you don’t get the proper notice then you might not have to pay the fine. As to whether San Francisco can legally tow away your ride with the way the local laws are written these days, well, that’s up in the air.

Can I explain why the owner was given only three days to move in light of the last year’s policy change allowing seven days? No, no I cannot. Click to expand.

Are San Francisco drivers gonna get a massive refund the way it just went down South San Francisco Way with the red light cameras? [KRON’s Eve Taft- why isn’t she in every romcom Hollywood can produce?] No se.

I’m the first one to rain on the parade of plaintiff’s attorneys with ridiculous notions of what constitutes a decent lawsuit, but this one, this one looks good.

The mise-en-scene atop Buena Vista Heights at the end of Masonic, where it’s so hilly you might need an exemption to drive your SUV around.

This aging, now-woodless Willys Jeep Wagon ur-SUV needs no exemption for excessive weight as it’s not close to the weight limit. (I ought to call it in to Pimp My Ride or something.) Wonder where it is now, wonder if it got towed. [Dude, where's my car? What happened to my woody?]

Anyway, we’ll just have to bide our time to see what occurs with this not-yet-certified class action lawsuit. Writer Joe Eskenazi will keep us posted, I’m sure.
