“Year of the Horse” Lunar New Year Forever Stamp Debuts in San Francisco – A Very Conservative Design This Time

Wednesday, January 15th, 2014

Here it is folks, halfway through January and I’m still writing “Year of the Snake” on all my checks. Haha!

Now while you’re chuckling at my clever joke, check out the reference to the “Chinese Chamber of Congress, which I assume must be a new somewhat corrupt Chinatown nonprofit that helps Chinese American voters with stencils(!) (to lockstep vote for the right candidates) and that helps to steer Central Subway money to the right contractors, etc.

And no mention of Rose Pak, mmmm.

All the deets:

“Lunar New Year Forever Stamp Highlights Year of the Horse

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Today the U.S. Postal Service began celebrating the 2014 Lunar New Year by issuing the Celebrating Lunar New Year: Year of the Horse Forever stamp.

Available today in sheets of 12 stamps, customers may purchase the stamps at usps.com/stamps, at 800-STAMP24 (800-782-6724) or at Post Offices nationwide and on eBay at ebay.com/stamps.

“The start of the Lunar New Year is the biggest holiday of the year for much of the world’s population,” said U.S. Postal Service San Francisco District Manager David Stowe in dedicating the stamp at the Chinese Culture Center inside the Hilton San Francisco Financial District Hotel. “It’s a time of great celebration and reflection for millions of Americans, including the Chinese-American community right here in San Francisco.”

Joining Stowe in dedicating the stamp were stamp illustrator Kam Mak of Brooklyn, NY; San Francisco City and County Mayor Edwin Lee; Chinese Chamber of Congress Supervisory Board President Eddie Au; and KGO-TV Anchor Alan Wang.

Ever more deets, after the jump.

OMG, It’s Scary Video of a Highline Over San Francisco – How Would You Like to Tightrope Walk Near the Golden Gate?

Tuesday, January 7th, 2014

Oh man, RPD General Manager Phil Ginsburg is NOT going to like seeing this. ‘Cause the daredevil seen below didn’t take a time-out to thank lawyer Phil Ginsburg for being appointed as RPD general manager.

Now, there’s a safety line, but this video is scary nevertheless.

As seen near Land’s End, near the Golden Gate Bridge:

OMG, KQED Touches the Third Rail by Dissing West AND East Oakland – See the “Offending Paragraph” Here

Wednesday, November 20th, 2013

Start here:

A San Franciscan’s Guide to Living in Oakland”  | November 19, 2013 | 123 Comments

Then read the inevitable retraction here:

Oakland, We Hear You!” -  | November 19, 2013 | 18 Comments

Then read this graf here, the one that got deleted, never to return:

“Don’t Be Scared

The only rule to living here is to find where to go and not to go. The places I am going to take you on a tour through will label me as “bougie” by Oakland standards, but I don’t think there is anything elitist about coming home in one piece. So stay out of East Oakland and West Oakland. That doesn’t sound like it leaves much, but it does. Trust me, my friends have been violently mugged in East Oakland and had the same house robbed three times in West Oakland. But be my guest if you want to go to either for ‘cool points.’”

Oh, here it is:

If KQED wants to do this kind of stuff, it should label the post as an editorial or as a reader contribution or something like that. I’ll tell you, another big corporate website in town, carpet-bagging Gannett Co Inc’s west coast loss-maker,* The Bold Italic, similarly runs into trouble when it runs similar kinds of posts.

I’m saying that this kind of post, presented the way it was, damages the KQED brand.

Could KQED Forum do a radio call in show about this incident for a full hour? Heck yes.

That’s certainly an option, KQED people.

*Millions and millions of dollars all told.

The Dangers of Buying a Flat Screen TV That’s Too Small – Expensive $2000-Something Hitachi Already Abandoned

Tuesday, September 3rd, 2013

42 inches and 1080i? Was that a good combo back in 2007?

I think not.

My 2011-era 70-incher* from Costco cost less and is much better, obvs.  (It will go the distance, it will last for decades, IMO)

Of course, things such as TVs always get better, but this extremely heavy, extremely thick plasma model for almost $3000 was simply too much, too soon. And now it’s busted but it became obsolete before then.

Here’s the Latest Controversial SFMTA MUNI Bus Ad: “THIS IS ISLAMIC APARTHEID” – Uh, You’re Losing This Game, SFMTA

Wednesday, June 19th, 2013

Via the District 5 Blog comes the news

On It Goes

All the deets:

“After months of procrastination and dhimmitude, the San Francisco MTA finally posted our Islamic apartheid ads on city buses (above are the first of the pics). They have been running the libelous “Israel is an apartheid state” ad without hesitation (or substantiation), mind you. I, on the other hand, had to provide numerous links and references to back up my ads. Why me and not them? Because I was stating fact, but the Jew-haters were merely expressing their opinion. You can’t make this stuff up, folks.

San Francisco turned over the revenue from our ads to Muslim groups to study the effect AFDI ads had on the Muslim community, I kid you not. But they kept the revenue from the Jew-hatred ads.

We will educate the American people despite the difficulty, despite the obstacles.”
