Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

Oh man, it was on last night at Embarcadero One’s LandMark Cinema in the Financial District. But you can see for yourself tonight for just $15 at 6:00PM.

If you are into video games, this is a Good Deal, is all I have to say. I’m not going to spell it all out for you [cough SWAG!, cough MINI  SLIDER BURGERS!], I’m just saying you’ll get your money’s worth for both the experience of it and the takeaways.

The Sony 4k digital projector’s output is just beautiful. I don’t know much about latency and refresh rates ‘n stuff, but this is the best looking “video monitor” I’ve ever seen.

Here’s a photograph of the computer / movie screen. Where are the pixels? No pixelization that I could see. (Don’t try this at home with your own PC screen.)

And hey, is Uncharted 2 a game changer for Sony?

Sony Brings Gaming to the Big Screen This Tuesday – UNCHARTED 2 Event at LandMark Embarcedero

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

Let’s see if I understand this here – instead of using celluloid technology (you know, technologythat would be quite familiar to people back in the 1800’s) to show films, movie theatres should convert to digital projection and Sony would be happy to help out with that – I think that’s the message from Sony for theatre owners these days. That way, they could host all sorts of events using digital technology.

Like this coming Tuesday, October 6th at the Landmark Embarcadero where it’s going to be on with  unreleased video game UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves up on the big screen, “powered by Sony Electronics 4K digital cinema technology, which provides image resolution four times greater than high-definition consumer televisions.” If that’s not enough for you, they’re going to have a raffle and goodie bags and food, the works. all for just $15. Actually, I’m surprised it hasn’t sold out yet.

Oh, pwned!

Of course, all the good stuff comes with:

Here’s all the deets:
The events take place at the select theaters listed below and feature: a live, big screen demo giving you the inside track on tips & tricks. Also includes: gift bag, raffle entry and a Multiplayer Tournament that gives you the chance to win lots of great prizes, including the UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves Fortune Hunter Edition.

Sony 4K Technology Brings Multi-Player Gaming To Digital Cinema Theaters

Four-City Event Tour Launches New PlayStation3 Game; Demonstrates the Potential of Alternative Content

Sony is joining forces with movie theaters across the country to create a unique series of multi-player gaming events that highlight the potential of “alternative content” as an additional revenue source for exhibitors during non-peak times.

To support the release of the PlayStation3® title UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves(TM), Sony Computer Entertainment of America and Sony Digital Cinema Solutions and Services are producing four exclusive “sneak peek” events. Attendees will have the chance to play UNCHARTED 2 on the big screen, powered by Sony Electronics 4K digital cinema technology, which provides image resolution four times greater than high-definition consumer televisions.

“Sony 4K digital cinema technology delivers an enhanced viewing experience unlike anything seen in theaters before,” said Mike Fidler, senior vice president of Sony Electronics’ Digital Cinema Solutions and Services Group. “But it also offers exhibitors additional programming options from alternative content such as gaming events, simulcasts, pre-recorded concerts, and sporting events, to maximize a movie theater’s profitability and fill auditoriums during non-peak times.”

As the move to digital cinema continues, exhibitors across the United States are increasing their menu of services and amenities to elevate the theater-going experience, turning theaters into “digital entertainment destinations.”

The “sneak peek” events will take place on October 5 and 6, 6-11 p.m., at the following theaters:

 —  Landmark Embarcadero, San Francisco, Calif.
 —  Muvico Theaters, Rosemont, Ill.
 —  Muvico Theaters, Thousand Oaks, Calif.
 —  Lincoln Square Cinemas, Bellevue, Wash.
