Campaign 2014: Here’s What 3.3 Pounds of Mail in a Mailbox Looks Like – Plus, David Chiu is Very Very Evil

Monday, November 3rd, 2014

(Yes, there is white powder on the LCD screen of this digital scale - why do you ask?*)

(And no, I don’t think David Chiu is evil, but man, you ought to see some of these fliers I’m getting…)

Anyway, here’s what I pulled out of the old mailbox yesterday – 52 ounces of garbage, plus, somewhere in there, a small check from State Farm, a diamond in the rough:

P1160921 copy

Now, granted, there was a B&H catalog in there, plus a Costco Connect magazine, but the bulk of the bulk was campaign 2014 flyers what cost more to mail than they cost to produce.

My poor letter carrier!

*It’s flour, fool, purchased in bespoke fashion [25 pounds at a time] from my local purveyor of comestibles [Amazon, Fuckin' A, bubba, back when it was only $27 a bag - now it's like $40 for some reason?]

Amazingly, Our Local Postal Service Opens Its Doors Earlier on a Saturday Than UPS Does Monday Through Friday

Thursday, July 3rd, 2014

Here you go, here are the hours for USPS Clayton Station 94117 in the Upper Haight:

Compare that with the opening time for the big UPS Customer Center at 320 San Bruno Ave.

Well forget about Saturday ’cause the UPS aint even open on Saturdays. And M-F, the UPS begrudgingly opens at 9:30 AM.

I’ll tell you, a few decades back, UPS outperformed the Post Office in all aspects. But these days, for a lot of aspects, it’s hard to tell much of a diff.

IMO.

“Year of the Horse” Lunar New Year Forever Stamp Debuts in San Francisco – A Very Conservative Design This Time

Wednesday, January 15th, 2014

Here it is folks, halfway through January and I’m still writing “Year of the Snake” on all my checks. Haha!

Now while you’re chuckling at my clever joke, check out the reference to the “Chinese Chamber of Congress, which I assume must be a new somewhat corrupt Chinatown nonprofit that helps Chinese American voters with stencils(!) (to lockstep vote for the right candidates) and that helps to steer Central Subway money to the right contractors, etc.

And no mention of Rose Pak, mmmm.

All the deets:

“Lunar New Year Forever Stamp Highlights Year of the Horse

Will YOUR Post Office Be Shut Down? Bayview 94124, Visitacion Valley 94134, McLaren 94134, Civic Center 94102

Tuesday, July 26th, 2011

Here’s the news of the day, via the San Francisco Business Times: 3700 post office branches are set to be shut down by the USPS.

Here’s what’s on the chopping block in San Francisco:

BAYVIEW SAN FRANCISCO 94124
CIVIC CNTR P O BOX UNIT SAN FRANCISCO 94102
FEDERAL BUILDING SAN FRAN SAN FRANCISCO 94102
MCLAREN STATION SAN FRANCISCO 94134
VISITACION STATION SAN FRANCISCO 94134

Mmmm.

Now the Federal Building PO is just a little thing, sort of a secret for those in the know – no waiting there. And the Civic Center PO Box Unit, well that’s not really a PO anymore anyway.

So.

We’re going to lose three full-fledged POs and they all just happen to be in the southeast corner?

Two in the 94134…

…and one in the 94124:

Uh….

Uh….

WTF, USPS?

What’s that? You spent all your money sponsoring that drugged-up cyclist? All right, but this one is not going to go down well…

Check It Out, Man! 44-Cent Simpsons Animation Stamps Released Today

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

The pain of increased postal rates starting May 11, 2009 will be eased somewhat with news of the Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Committee‘s decision to allow the troubled United States Postal Service to use characters from The Simpsons cartoon show. So you should beat a path to your local P.O. and pick some up.

Stampspotters are getting excited about this – they’re planning on mailing out letters today from certain areas in order to get a souvenir cancellation printed. How about Simsponsville, South Carolina? Or better yet, Springfield, WI (Which Springfield though? The Badger State has like five(!) towns of Springfield.)

Here’s what’s going on in Springfield, Virginia (I was afraid to play the video, but it looks intriguing) and here’s a promotion from the 94117, Haight-Ashbury, California. Click to expand:
