Here’s the news of the day, via the San Francisco Business Times: 3700 post office branches are set to be shut down by the USPS.

The pain of increased postal rates starting May 11, 2009 will be eased somewhat with news of the Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Committee‘s decision to allow the troubled United States Postal Service to use characters from The Simpsons cartoon show. So you should beat a path to your local P.O. and pick some up.
Stampspotters are getting excited about this – they’re planning on mailing out letters today from certain areas in order to get a souvenir cancellation printed. How about Simsponsville, South Carolina? Or better yet, Springfield, WI (Which Springfield though? The Badger State has like five(!) towns of Springfield.)
