The Golden Gate Bridge People Have a Plan for Their Crowded Sidewalks: Bikes and People Together Until September 2011

Friday, July 15th, 2011

This is the news that the Golden Gate Bridge District has for people who write into them asking wazzup with the crowded sidewalk these days, below.

We’ll have a nice line down the length of the bridge keeping ped and bike apart.

Hurray!

Thank Gaia the sidewalk isn’t as crowded these days as it was on this day back in 87:

Here’s your Dear Cyclist letter, just written to craigslist contributor Zirkon Sprocket

“Dear Cyclist:

Thank you for your comments regarding the current Seismic Retrofit construction being undertaken on the Golden Gate Bridge west sidewalk that is requiring all Golden Gate Bridge visitors to be sharing the east sidewalk for a temporary period of just four months, through September 2011.

We wanted to share some additional information and give you an update on several things as follows:

1) After three meetings held in May and June with sidewalk stakeholders including the Marin and SF Bicycle Coalitions as well as the bike rental companies, we are right now preparing to add striping and associated signage to the East Sidewalk to assist in better separating the cyclists and the pedestrians. The stripping and signage were agreed upon by the stakeholders. We have ordered the needed materials. We will perform this work at night as soon as the materials arrive and the weather cooperates.

2) We are also adding some “sandwich board” signs at locations leading to the East Sidewalk to assist in preparing all visitors to be cautious on the East Sidewalk.

3) We want to be reemphasize the West Sidewalk closure is a part of the critical Seismic Retrofit construction work that is occurring now on the Marin anchorage housing. This work being undertaken to allow the Bridge to remain standing during a nearby 8.3 Richter magnitude earthquake. This portion of the Seismic Retrofit Construction project began in April 2008 and retrofits the massive Marin anchorage housing and associated pylon N1. The 4-month-long temporary closure of the West Sidewalk is required as the roof of the Marin anchorage housing, of which both the East and West sidewalks are a part, has to be replaced. The timing for the work on the West Sidewalk is not ideal, but it was set in accordance with the contractors work flow and delaying this work was not an option. The retrofit construction project has been underway since late 1997, with little to no impact to our customers, and we ask for your continued patience.

4) We would also note that, according to SF Travel, the City of San Francisco has seen an increase of visitors from a daily average of 1,200 visitors in June 2011 to an average of 2,400 visitors just last week! People love to visit and experience this Bridge.

5) The Golden Gate Bridge is an international icon visited by at least 10 million people a year. We all must remember to share our beloved Bridge with visitors that come from around the globe to experience what we get to experience every day.

Thanks for your understanding during this critical construction project. AND, finally, there is ONE EVENT with a permit this weekend to be aware of: Sunday, July 17, Tri Cali Alcatraz Challenge Aquathon. Event time is 8 am to 12 noon when up to 600 runners will cross the EAST SIDEWALK heading north and turn around at Vista Point and return on the EAST SIDEWALK headed south. The Most Amazing Animated GIF Ever: NBC Channel 3 KNTV Meteorologist Christen Lauren IS Poser McPoserperson III

Friday, July 15th, 2011

Speechless I am.

At first I thought this website was made by a fan of KNTV’s Christina Loren. But now I’m thinking it’s her site.

Anyway, here it is.

Oh, wait a sec, here it is, shrunk 4x:

It’s like the front page of the Daily ProphetIt’s mesmerizing. It just keeps going and going…

Now that’s what I call Bay Area Journalism!

OMG, It’s Free Slurpee Day All Over Town! Plus, a Special Celebration at 30th and Mission – Happy B-Day, 7-11!

“Monday, July 11th is Free Slurpee Day at almost every 7-Eleven in the country, but a few locations in the Bay Area are actually holding full on “7-Eleven Day” celebrations.

One 7-Eleven location in San Francisco (3400 Mission Street at 30th Street) hosts four hours of brainfreezing fun with not only free slurpees for all comers, but also fun competitions like Brain freeze contests (exactly what it sounds, who can slurp a slurpee the fastst), with prizes, a jump house with a slide, balloon artist, KYLD radio from noon to 2pm and a live mariachi band at 11am.

This event is free and open to the public. There’s also another free 7-Eleven Day celebration in Sunnyvale from 1p-5p.

Free Slurpee Day 2011 Celebrations

  • What: Free Slurpees throughout the Bay Area can only mean one thing…that’s right, it’s 7-Eleven Day. To commemorate 7-Eleven’s 84th birthday on July 11, aka 7-Eleven Day, Bay Area 7-Eleven stores will show their love by offering free 7.11-ounce Slurpees and hosting a series of competitions, including 84-second timed Slurpee-drinking contests
  • Why: Because 7-Eleven wants to say thank you to the Bay Area and invite y’all
  • Where: Nearly 400 participating Bay Area stores will offer free Slurpees.
Two Bay Area stores will host big 7-Eleven Day celebrations at::
    - 11 am – 3 pm: 3400 Mission Street (at 30th) in San Francisco
    - 1 pm – 5 pm: 708 N. Fair Oak Ave in Sunnyvale

“80′s Barbie” and Her Blue BMW Convertible Teleport from a Quarter-Century Ago to Clement Street

Monday, June 27th, 2011

You kids are too young to remember the 1980′s, but this is exactly what it looked like.

Exactly…

Note TSV (triangular side vent) windows and tiny, tiny (by today’s standards) stock wheels:

Who at KNTV NBC Bay Area Channel 3, Channel 11 Considers Bay Area Women “Unkempt?”

Friday, June 3rd, 2011

I know, but I won’t tell you.

Now, who at KNTV NBC Bay Area Channel 3, Channel 11 thinks that popular METEOROLOGIST Christina Loren is part of something that is “bridging the gap between the way other big markets present news and how we do it in the Bay?”

Again, IKBIWTY.

But, one might get the feeling that certain person(s) at KNTV want to shake things up ’round here.

I’ll tell you, I don’t look at the KNTV ’cause my rabbit ears can’t pull in the signal from Down South, but that ad campaign they put up last year was jarring, it seemed like something not very bay area at all.

We’ll see how it goes…

How Taiwan Does the Weather Vs. How San Jose Does the Weather – Christina Loren and “Extreme Weather Educating”

Thursday, May 12th, 2011

Let’s see here, our first video is what popped up after I linked to the internationally-famous NMA joint about Twitter extortion in the Mid-Market area the other day.

Now, compare and contrast with KNTV, the closest thing the 415 has to an NBC affiliate.

Cue the young boy and… action:

Christina Loren:

Controversial, and

Wears a hat, sometimes

OMG, NBCBayArea’s New “Weathergirl” Christina Loren Wears a Hat! Plus Rich Lieberman is NOT Infatuated, No Way

Monday, May 2nd, 2011

I’ll tell you, my rabbit ears (avec free govmint digital cable converter box) couldn’t even dream of picking up the KNTV from all the way down in San Bruno or wherever, so I never see the Channel 3.

But lots of you do, apparently, based upon all the recent fuss about newly-installed meteorologist Christina Loren.

Per Jane B:

“I enjoy the NBC news in the morning, but as soon as that bulging self-promoting common tart of a meteorologist appears with her forced Good Morning, I just can’t wait to change channels for the duration. I would have thought NBC would have been more concerned with professionalism in their meteorologists than with this very poor image that it presents daily. And then to add insult to injury, she turns up this a.m. with a hat, supposedly, I suppose, to be in the spirit of the royal wedding – what an insult!”

Exhibit A, the “insulting” hat in question:

Now, with an opposing viewpoint, here’s the wedding hat minority report from Christina’s FaceBook fans:

O.K. then.

Comes now Rich Lieberman, who’s not infatuated with “The Hottest Weather Woman On The Planet,” not in the least, why would you even think that, to post an interview with CL, who ably strives to stay AOM, Always On Message, about being AAMF, All About My Forecast. See?

All right, it’s time to sign off with all the banal slogans used by KNTV over the recent decades:

Station slogans

  • Look to 11 (1972-circa 1975)
  • We`re The One Can Turn To, Channel 11 (1978-1979; localized version of ABC ad campaign)

TTFN!

NBCBayArea’s Christina Loren has got to be The Most Controversial Weather Personality in San Francisco History

Wednesday, April 6th, 2011

[UPDATE: OMG, Christina Wears a Hat! Controversy ensues… And, does Christina think that Bay Area women are generally “unkempt?“]

People are still upset about the San Francisco Bay Area* NBC affiliate’s new “weather girl.”

Anyway, here’s the comment from Katrina from yesterday:

Christina Loren is really disturbing to watch. Today her white shirt is busting (pardon the pun) at the seems. Aren’t we done with this kind of sexiest marketing? I no longer want to watch this morning show due to this clueless barbie doll projection of a wanna be women.”

I’m trying to see the problem here, if this is the right video snip.

Seems as if a lot of people complain about her (cause man, some of her promotional videos were over the top), but it also seems that Channel 3 has toned things down a bit lately, for what that’s worth…

(If there’s one thing I can’t stand for, it’s TV weather. They’re spending like three minutes telling people something that should take three seconds, IMO. Oh well.)

*”San Jose, Oakland, San Francisco” in that precise order – that’s the priority of KNTV, per some of the people that work there.

OMG, Hail! Early Morning Bee-Bee-Sized Hail in San Francisco

I’ve seen woise.

Genuine San Francisco hail:

Hey, wasn’t it supposed to snow last month or something?
