When Renting a Hummer Limo in San Francisco, Which Color is the Best Choice?

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Of course white has to be one the better choices, right off the bat.

As here, where we can see an Arctic White Hummer H2 limousine on McAllister, temporarily blocking San Francisco Bike Route 20, known as the Snick.

Click to expand. See how big it gets?

But neon pink is not without its charms. As seen on 5th Street in the SoMA.

How about this: Black for funerals, white for weddings and hot pink for everything else?

That’s how you should roll in the 415!

Enter the $100,000 2010 San Francisco Dream Wedding Giveaway to Win Win Win!

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

Are you just about to get married? If so, there appears to be no downside entering the 2010 San Francisco Dream Wedding Giveaway. And if you win, you’ll be getting hitched on May 14, 2010, whether you like it or not!

All this assumes that you’re not bashful talking about your fiance (or fiancee) and that you don’t mind being exposed to a wedding-related sales pitch or two. After all, you only get married one time (or eight (!) times, something in that area).

And just for fun, read the FAQ. Apparently, ingrates, people who haven’t even won yet, write in with less-than-gracious inquiries:

Q} – I already paid deposits to other vendors for the wedding I have been planning on my own. Can I get those deposits back?

Q} I can’t afford to take time off work. If I am the winner, will I be compensated for my time?

Q} Can we cancel the wedding if we are the winners?

(Can you imagine? I mean, really, mink coats and no manners, right ladies?)

Anyway, here are the deets. The contest starts August 4, 2009, at exactly 7:55 AM Pacific Standard Time.

You can’t win if you don’t play! And Our Schools Win Too!*

Recreation & Park Department Chases Away Golden Gate Renaissance Faire

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

Hoo boy, first Pfizer and now this. The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department has managed to chase away the 2009 Golden Gate Renaissance Faire, which was slated for Speedway Meadow this summer. The event is cancelled. Why’s that ? Read on.

No more gay weddings:

Or girl power:

Or cheering for your favorite:

Or horse petting:

And forget about jousting as well.

Says Marti, the organizer:

“It is with our deepest regret that we must announce that the Golden Gate Renaissance Faire, planned to be held August 1 & 2, 2009, in San Francisco has been canceled. Ongoing challenges with the San Francisco Parks and Recreation Department introducing new restrictions, multiple date changes, and slow to confirm site usage along with continued changing requirements has forced Renaissance Productions to scrap its plans for this year’s event. After six successful years of producing an ever growing event for the community (hosting over 6,000 attendees in 2008), and having zero reported post-event site impact on the grounds, the Park and Recreation Department decided to change the operating arrangements. Due to these factors and a lack of confidence that additional restrictions would not be put into place at the last moment, there is no practical way for Renaissance Productions to bring a quality show to its audience or adequately market the event in due time.”

Here’s a hopeful note:

“We do hope to work out the issues and have an arrangement with the City of San Francisco to hold the Golden Gate Renaissance Faire in 2010.”

Let’s hope. But where will the Ren Fen go this year? Fremont, baby.

Reserve Your San Francisco City Hall Wedding Ceremony Soon!

Friday, June 6th, 2008

Here’s the deal, all those same sex marriages at San Francisco’s City Hall are scheduled to get started on a Monday evening ten days from now - June 16th. Normally, the largest old-school dome in the Western Hemisphere wouldn’t be open that late, but these are extraordinary times.

So, opposite sex couples have only a limited window of opportunity to get a license and get married at City Hall before June 16. Before, couples were avoiding ceremonies on June 13th (as it’s on a Friday), but no longer. Everybody will be accomodated eventually, of course, but you need to plan ahead for best results. Things will get a little hectic starting June 16, 2008.

First, go here to get a reservation to get a wedding license. Then go here to check out what times for ceremonies they have for you. Keep checking as cancellations come up. Things are in flux, so stay informed.

img_7853a1.jpg

When things get back to normal after the big summer rush, you’ll be offered a space for your ceremony in the small chapel downstairs or up here, at the top of the steps under the rotunda. But expect to see ceremonies all over the building very soon.

Congratulations!

Limousine Liberal – San Francisco Chauffeur Service Now Uses Hybrid Technology

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

Check out this car parked in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park (on a street unaffected by Healthy Saturdays or Healthy Sundays).

California “Livery” license plates and the TCP (“Transport Chartered Party“) number sticker indicate this is a limo for hire, and the letter “H” on the license plate and in the car’s model name, GS 450h, means this vehicle is a gas-electric hybrid.

go8f5877a.jpg

Can you imagine the marketing of a hybrid limo such as this? You no longer have a driver, you have a Eco Chauffeur®. And on that special day:

Your wedding car need not cost the earth. Enjoy luxurious and stylish wedding travel in the eco-friendly Lexus Hybrid wedding car.”

The problem with all this is that Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive technology is basically being used to make the car accelerate faster, as

“The only good thing about the electric motor is that it provides extra power when you mash your foot into the carpet. And I’m not sure that was the point.”

The same basic vehicle without the Lexus Hybrid Drive system, called the GS 350, is already as fast as stink. Take one of these non-hybrid, 5-passenger sedans to the racetrack and compare it to the vaunted, two-seat Tesla Roadster, the kind you’re starting to see on Bay Area roads these days. That Tesla isn’t going to outrun you to sixty mph.

When you add in the electric motor to make a GS 450h, you get a car that accelerates even faster. 0-60 mph in 5.2 seconds – that will get you to the church on time

Toyota engineers could have emphasized mileage improvements at the expense of brute force speed, but they chose not to.

Anyway, enjoy your hybrid limo service – the faster you go the faster you save the earth, or something like that.
